Really? They are generally serial numbered. And licensed dealers record transfers. So it isn't difficult at all to identify the origin of a recovered firearm in most cases

The ones passed a year or two ago in Virginia may not stop car jacking but will absolutely have an impact on the flow of handguns into DC and into the hands of people who can't pass a background check. Enterprising young men with a clean background could buy as many Glocks as they wanted each trip to the Nation's Gunshow and then "private sell" to their friends. At a markup of course. Gun control is so often about semiautomatic rifles because that's what frequently used in the "spectacular" attacks. I would bet that the handgun these 15-17 year olds used were first legally purchased here in VA. Whatever can make that not so easy may not stop it but will make it less frequent

Pretty insightful stuff.

Game Day Thread - Ron's New Team vs Ron's Old Team
Redskins Diehard replied to TK's topic in The Stadium
He just said "are you going to be the victim or the prey"! -
Certainly seems like an interview you'd expect from the 106.7 crew. Can't imagine if George Michael, Frank Herzog, or Glen Brenner were covering the team these days they would've asked a question that way. Or John Keim from current day. I agree with those who think Jason Wright should be above the fray. I read/heard he has reached out to this guy directly and privately before. Would've been better if he did that again if he felt he had to stick up for his guy. The topic definitely got more play because of that and not because the guy asked a question that has been discussed ad nauseam since the trade.

The Washington Nationals Thread: The Future is Near!
Redskins Diehard replied to Riggo#44's topic in The Tailgate
What do you mean "even a Ken Griffey Jr career"? That's a pretty good career! My prediction is none of these prospects come close to his career. I'd put stone cash that no 2 prospects match his career production. Injury caveat of course. But he doesn't appear to be too injury prone so far. -

Can't wait to be a half game ahead of last place instead of in last place -

How do you know one is? I guess we'll wait to see the graphics comparing them to Ted Williams and Cy Young. And then assume they get traded. -

Truthfully for years whenever we tuned in to a game we saw how Soto stacked up against all time greats. Not current greats, but legends in the game. And at least for me I never knew about him as a great up and coming prospect down on the farm. He just showed up one day. And not only a great player that came through in some big times during the best season but also a seemingly good guy. And now... gone, just like that. Thinking of the players I have heard all about as a prospect during that time? Robles and Kieboom. So yeah, it sucks they have the worst record in baseball. But at least we had our guy Juan. -

Think of the prospects they can get trading that battery next year with 10 controlled years! How does Bob Carpenter have time to call the game, keep score, AND defend the owners here? -

I don't see the need for the "again" since that was the first thing I posted on the topic. I would've liked to see the new owner given a shot one way or the other. And I get it, our farm system may not have gone to number 5 if they waited -

I totally get it from the business and building perspective. I held out hope today that they wouldn't trade now if only so a new owner could have a shot. I think that was worth losing out on one or two of these prospects. -

Just think of all the prospects we'll have when these guys get good and we trade them for prospects! I was mostly fine with letting Harper go. Didn't like seeing Rendon go. Hated seeing Turner go. And this one is the worst of all. Soto could've been the Nats version of Ovie. -

Not really. I don't know what the latency is from there to here but video is probably near real time. -

You are right. It is laser guided. But the laser can be from the launch platform or from another source(like someone on the ground). So you don't have to have someone on the ground lasing the target -

The CIA only gets authority from one section of US code... title 50. The DoD gets its authority primarily through title 10(title 32 applies to National Guard). Why would DoD not conduct this operation? They clearly have the capabilities to do it. That's some skill! I like it -

Redskins Diehard replied to Riggo-toni's topic in The Tailgate
So you haven't figured it out yet? Do you know who carried out the operation? Was it DoD? If you figured out who conducted the operation(it's answered in this thread) what vague section of US law lays out authorities of that organization? Keep thinking it's the AUMF. -

I'm quite confident I understand the authorities used in this case and others like it. I've pointed you in the direction to educate yourself if you choose to do so. You can say thanks for pointing you in the right direction or you can give a thumbs down...it really doesn't matter to me. Oh, and instead of focusing your research on specific things it may be useful to understand source of Presidential authorities and how oversight is exercised. There's lot to be debated about there. But if your starting with AUMF and DoD you aren't even in the right ball park. -

It takes a little longer than 5 minutes of effort to understand. He seems quite sure this is related to the AUMF(and even had a witty retort when I said it wasn't military force) and that there are no checks and balances. Those are both fundamentally wrong whether he "looked it up" or not. -

Redskins Diehard replied to Riggo-toni's topic in The Tailgate
You haven't read enough to understand. Your premise is false. I mean you may not like it even if you did understand and that would be fair. But your understanding of how it works is not correct. There's a whole world outside of Title 10. Understand the differences and you'll understand this -

It's all in there. The AUMF has nothing to do with this authorization. -

It is not. The answer to your second question is found in Title 50 and EO12333
