The last two years were the years to take RBs with Hall, Walker, Robinson, and GIbbs(among others like Achane who came in unheralded). This year's class appears pretty "meh".

I'm hoping for a change of pace back to Robinson and Rodriquez.  I don't want the uber-RB at the expense of any of the other team needs.

  2. The team needs at OL, TE, and now DE line up perfectly with last year's draft.  A GM who can actually plan long-term will avoid these issues.  On the bright side, that Chicago pick is looking better and better.  A trade down from the 1st or trade down from one of the two 2nd round picks should give the GM more pick(s) in the top 100.  We are going to need it - with better talent evaluation too, of course.

I think the 2 biggest issues - coaching and lack of quality linebackers - are hurting the other position groups.

The lack of quality linebackers is never so obvious as when the team plays against a team with high quality LBs.  It really sucks that this team devalued that position or just didn't have the eye for LB talent.

  4. EB is from the Andy Reid tree.  Andy Reid didn't like to call running plays even when he had the most productive RBs in Philly.  EB has to make due with the roster that he was given.  He's also learning how to be the play-caller.   I don't know whether he'd make a good HC.  That's not really the issue at hand though.  He could be an interim HC and be required to interview for the permanent position at the end of the season.  It works for both parties.  He gets the audition and the team gets rid of RR and the DC now.  Front office has to stay in place until the end of the season.

But I’m not too far off that we need a possession guy that can make contested catches.

A better version of Pringle or a better TE would certainly help! Even with those issues, the Offense scored 27 points (should be automatic extra point).  In years past, this offensive production would have been enough to win games.  Maybe it's a good thing that the Defense fell apart - otherwise, we might have been stuck with RR's deficiencies for many more years.  Better but never quite good enough.

Howell's development will continue over the next few seasons.  We want him to finish in one piece and be the QB that's actually worth the future mega contract.  Getting him there in one piece and able to thrive requires an OL makeover more than the tweaks to WR, TE or RB.  I'm watching these games now solely to form opinions on which players I hope we will part of the team's future.  btw - where is Chris Rodriquez?

  6. Cutting Gates would be admitting that you don't have the chops to identify talent.  It's not going to happen.  Rivera is hoping for another year so that he can claim Gates competed during training camp but a rookie or second year player was just too good.  Suggested Rivera talking points  "We had high hopes for Gates but he had some nagging injuries last year and then Stromberg opened eyes during training camp.  That's what football is all about....competition."

Probably not the popular opinion, but I’m hoping Ron and EB come back for one more season, but fire Del Rio. Simply because I want Howell in the same system again.

If a GM wants to keep EB it's possible because EB is under contract for another year.  Harris needs to build a winner for the long-term.  Get the GM in and let the GM make the decisions.  Build the structure for success.  The coach is important but one more year of an EB offense before switching to the coach you really want doesn't make sense IMO.  I want a ten year coach paired with ten years of Howell if he's the right QB

Terry has dropped balls too. He's not a physically imposing receiver. Great speed and route running but gets outmuscled too often. Still love the guy but he has had disappointing moments as well(but the good still outweights the bad big time).

I see other teams with huge imposing receivers that make amazing bail out catches. Give me one of those.

I doubt that an A1 Alpha receiver is in the cards.  Too many needs and a real TE may be a higher priority than the WR.

I can't stand throwing to Brown. The guy has not made one play in 3 years here. Every throw to him is a wasted play. I'd rather Crowder get those snaps, but I'd basically make it a rule to never throw to Brown unless he's wide open.

In other words I'd never actually scheme anything up for him and just hope his straight line speed can occasionally catch a busted coverage.

Brown had two catches against NE but I agree with you regarding the contested catches.  The 30 year-old free agent Jamison Crowder has been much more productive than Brown and has earned his special teams and ancillary WR roles.  If Brown can't step up his production, it's time to move on after the end of the season. I don't see any reason to pay Samuels' next contract.  Pringle is a bigger target but seems to be just a guy.  I believe Dotson is good and should continue to improve.  I'd like a better version of Pringle (big WR versus the two Smurfs) but perhaps a better TE would fit that role.  All-in-all the team has a good WR group.

Given where the team is currently in the standings, at or near top 10…. a trade down would involve getting another late first this year as well as a first rounder next year.

How things change!  We are currently at #15.  While I'd like a top ten draft pick, I'd rather Howell continue to get better and score more points. Where we pick is less important than whom we pick.

I dont want Adam Peters. I think the Shanny system allows so much flexibility in assessing value to their oline. They can get more out of less with it. Along with Kyle system having the least "margin" between run and pass.

Couple it with their weird FO set up with Kyle really being the shot caller working hand in hand with Lynch im a hard pass.

I want Cunningham or Alec Halaby

Adam Peters was hired at the same time as Kyle Shanahan so he should be finding players that fit that particular system.  Why do you think he's a one-trick pony?  We do know that SF has done a great job at managing their roster.  They have 11 picks in the 2024 draft (a first, second, and two thirds AFTER trading for Chase Young) and the trade may have a net cost of zero if they get a compensatory pick when/if Chase leaves at the end of the season.

I usually see him as a late first, early second.

Adding him with our Bears 2nd and signing a high end Vet LBer would have our front 7 looking like the 49ers.

Is Ridgeway a good enough starterto potentially trade Allen or Payne this offseason?  Assume you get a really good offer, e.g., either a first round pick in the 2024 draft, or a second and third round pick in the 2024 draft; or a second round pick in the 2024 draft and a second round pick in the 2025 draft.

Portis was wasted behind those awful Wash lines at the end, but he was still a difference maker with that garbage interior OL. Literally carried them. Passing game worked because of play-action fakes to give Santana and Cooley time to get open.

Portis thrived in an old-fashioned offense. The new Commanders' analytics guy believes that passing wins games and running finishes them and the current OC is definitely from the Andy Reid school of offense.  A bell cow RB would be a waste of resources. While EB may not be with the team next year, I expect that a GM with a pass-priority mindset would be opposed to a bell cow if there were other options for team needs and desired offense.  RB room can be improved simply by adding a new skill set to the current group - it's not a bell cow guy but the team would still benefit from the added dimension of speed.

An elite RB talent would be a huge upgrade to our offense. Our backs are...okay, but none of them are real home run threats or bellcows.

An elite RB with a weak OL is just an OK RB.  Even if the OL was a strength, I'm not sure that an elite RB is worth the high-level pick as opposed to other options that might be available.  A speedy scatback though would give the OC more options.

And we already have a bunch of potential inside players. Next up would be a TE...sure wish that had been taken care of last year

We could have had a TE from the deepest class in history.  But that draft class wasn't a total loss.  Quan Martin has positional flexibility.  So, there's that.

analytics usually pushes for trade downs or heaven forbid (something we never do aside from McCloughan doing it a little) something this team never does and that is trade down this year for picks next year -- a Howie Roseman special.

I remember when the Skins (pre Snyder) did a trade down for a future pick.  It kind of sucked but the next year there were two high picks in the first round for Chris Samuels and Lavar Arrington.  Those were the days.

  17. What's the point of firing Rivera now?  Which existing coach would take over?  I don't want ownership hiring a long term coach mid season.  I want a GM taking care of business.  Lose with Rivera or lose with any of the other existing coaches.  The table was set with missing pieces, cracked goblets, and no planned entree.  The best we can hope for is the line protects Howell and he benefits from EBs pass-happy offense.

Trading Montez or Chase at the deadline in a year where they are playing well seems so far off of Ron's philosophy and MO that I can only suspect that this is being driven by ownership.  And that is unacceptable to me if true.  If it turns out that Harris is forcing Ron to make changes to his roster midseason, then I don't want to see anyone giving Harris a pass for this. That kind of direct meddling with a roster midseason is absolutely never OK under any circumstances from ownership.

Under any circumstances?  If Harris has already decided that Ron will be fired at the end of the season then it makes sense to set up a new GM for success.  Having said that, I hope Harris has at least discussed this with some GM consultant.
