  1. I wish Jamin Davis' lawyers had advised him to serve his time - either the full month sentence or a stiffer plea deal.  Anything now is going to be in the season.

So, what's the deal with Quan Martin?  2nd round pick and they don't have a defined role for him yet?  Seems like a jack-of-all trades developmental player.  I'd rather they had a defined role out of the gate and add-on later.  Is that too much to ask for a 2nd round pick?

  2. Some people have suggested redevelopment of the DC Armory and perhaps some of the DC government buildings.  Anything is possible with money.  I am more concerned about the money.  The Harris group appears to be maxed out on debt and the number of minority owners.  DC, Maryland and VA are all going to expect the owners to pony up money for a stadium if the local governments are contributing.  The new owners can get a loan from the NFL but if they are already maxed out on loans it's a bit more difficult.  IMO the financial forecasts for the team are overly optimistic:  revenue streams are accelerated 3-5 years before the stadium is likely to be completed and ready for use; unrealistic claims that VA would be willing to offer 1.5 billion for a stadium (are you kidding!!!); naming rights, extra income of all kinds seem to be quite rosy given the team may not become consistently competitive for a while.  They haven't built the commanders' brand yet but are forecasting immediate success.

I don't see any real upgrades, at all. Lateral moves. We went after mid-low tier players. Look at our DL, and then look at our OL. It's night and day. We have been skimping on OL for years, and we've paid the price.

DL - 4 first round picks, 1 second round.

    OL - 1 second round?

I do think though he needs to bulk up to help with the run game.  Going back to Smoot he said he put on 15 pounds to get up to 190 to help him with the run game and durability.  I imagne Forbes will try to bulk up to 180.  Some say he's at 175 already now, if that's true, that's a great start.

At 6'1", 180lbs doesn't seem "bulked up".  Haha.  I'm sure that the team will decide it's wise to assign him a nutritionist and eating plan.  Protein and the right carbs + weight room should be able to add muscle weight to his frame.

I hope the team doesn't cut Fuller - he was still performing well as an outside corner and the team needs quality depth for the inevitable hamstring pulls or other injuries.  Fingers crossed that St Juste stays concussion free this season.  It would be a shame for him to have to retire at such a young age.

The safety group and DL seem to be in great shape this year.  Hopefully injury free.  The big question mark, in my mind, is still the LB core.  We had issues before but we've lost Cole Holecomb.

  5. Scherff was a #5 pick of the first round.  That's not the same as picking one at #16.  Personally, I would prefer a tackle to start at RT and possibly move to LT in the future.  Depends on what Bienemey thinks of Cosmi.  But I want the best OL possible to support a young QB

I've been here before.  Refusing to get excited.  Same vibes with Shanny, Gruden, Rivera, new coaches with great press conferences and great first impressions and I've fallen for it before.

That's not to say I don't understand the excitement, I do.  But I'm not getting my hopes up for great results.  This is the place where hope goes to die.

Absolutely!  Hope for the best but expect normality.

  7. We have had big name and no name OCs and they have all failed here. Time for a new beginning.   I'm thankful that Rivera decided to keep his hands off the Offense despite his earlier comments on a run-first offense.  Let EB pick his assistants and let him run his Offense as he sees fit.  A high quality OC would not want to be held under the yoke of another (especially a defensive minded coach who doesn't understand Offense as well as he does).

I’m going to say it. Some of you are entirely too dramatic.

Being cautiously optimistic is understandable. But outright dismissing the hire is really weird.

That's because you haven't hit bottom yet.  If you had, the attitude makes perfect sense.  How many times did Charlie Brown think he was going to get to kick the football?  Lucy always snatched it away at the last moment.

All the news about new ownership groups trying to pre-instal Sean has gotta make hiring an OC even harder.

That is like the last thing someone interviewing for a job wants to hear.

Selecting a retired coach instead of an up-and-coming GM would be the ghost of Snyder coming back to haunt us.

    A.  They think tag.

    B.  Keim said last year the offers were for a third rounder for Payne, believes they'd get more after this season from Payne

    C.  Thought maybe a lower first round pick or high 2nd rounder could be had for him now.  Or a later 2nd rounder with another pick thrown in

I'd take C in a heartbeat.  He's a good player and worth that to some team (my view may be biased from 20 years of Snyder-ism management).

[But, does that mean Washington would then need to sign up Sweat and/or Young to keep the defensive containment/pressure around the ends?  If so, then where does the team start 'pinching pennies' when they find they need to sign up the 'glue' of the defense's back-7?

There's a lot of talk about retaining elite players -- but how many elite players can a team afford?

A good GM would have planned for this eventuality.  Perhaps the team should never have picked Payne.  Perhaps the team should have traded out of the Young pick OR traded Sweat earlier.  Payne is the first headache - Sweat is the next.  I hope the team gets a good trade offer for Payne and uses the pick(s) wisely.  I haven't had confidence in the front office since Casserly and he was hit and miss at times anyway.

  11. Another rebuild in the future:  no QB, no long term OL on the roster, the DL to undergo a near-term turnover of the highest talent players etc.  Best we can hope for is a new owner finds best up-and-coming GM talent.  He will need to trade away some players we don't want to lose.  Do whatever needs to be done to break the legacy of Snyder.  GM makes the decisions on coaches and players.

This team used to know McVay's  system.  And, Shanahan's too for that matter.  Turner will probably be successful somewhere else.  I was watching the Bengals destroy the Bills and wondered how that team was able to get so much production out of Perine when we thought he was a bum here.

  13. Tag and trade Daron Payne to get something better than the potential future compensatory pick.  The team has decent back-ups and a 2nd rounder from the last draft that never played.  Just don't let him walk with zero compensation for the team.  Payne is young and can potentially get at least two more big contracts if he stays healthy.  He's valuable to other teams.  High sack count and now his first (albeit late) pro bowl.  He's worth more than a third-round pick IMO.

  14. I don't have confidence in this team's ability to manage the roster (by current or former GMs - or coaches filling that responsibility).  I don't want BPA in the first or second rounds if it's going to be a TE, WR or DE.  The team doesn't need another WR if it can't feed its top 3 WRs enough now.  The team has too much invested in the DLine now and shouldn't make the problem worse when the deficiencies in the rest of the team prevent it from being successful.  We do need the OL.  We do need another CB.  OT and CB are high value positions and, if the draft is indeed deep, then it's time to stock up especially for the Oline (they need two replacements in the near term).  Wish list - OT, G, CB and LB.

If Washington’s main goal is quarterback! Then we are already lost.  This off season they need to fix the offensive  line.  No if ands or butts.   Without an revamped line no quarterback will be able to any better than what we had this past season.

The 49'ers QB Purdy is a perfect example of how well a rookie QB can perform when he doesn't have to run for his life on every play.

  16. I don't know why Turner called such a conservative game to protect the lead.  I know the defense deserved the win, but IMO Turner should have given the rookie more experience against a good defense.  Perhaps they were training him to stay conservative and disciplined within the game plan, but I want the QB to develop the ability to run the score up on an opponent.

    1. New owner

    2. Owner hire real GM

    3. GM hire Coach.

Doesn't really matter in my mind if Ron stays or goes during the transition period.  We will be in limbo till that happens.

Let's hope that #1 realy happens.  Then we can get the review/evaluation period.

Devin Lloyd still fits as a flex and as an ILB and fixes a very big need (Flex) and can play inside if needed. I'd say he's very much in play despite the Keim report. Will we take him? Not sure. But he is an absolute fit for what this team does.

And I don't think it's due to personnel. It's due to scheme.

Wouldn't you scheme differently if the team didn't have a quality ILB on the roster?  IMO, If the team isn't going to use an ILB that often then we shouldn't draft an ILB in the first round - period.  I want a difference maker - he's not going to make a difference if he's not on the field. It's unpopular but an OT might be a good choice if BPA - there's an immediate upside and it fills a near-term need.  I'd like a WR (given the explosion in price for veterans) but it appears the BPA value might fall after pick 11 and before the second-round pick.  I'm just hoping that the picks actually contribute on the field.
