My question is if they do really like him do they still feel he’s too much of a reach at #2 or is it a **** it take our guy scenario

Me personally I stick and pick because I suspect other teams might have him graded high.

One of the blind spots with "Armchair GM'ing" is that we don't get to be involved in the interview process...

    That's the most important part.

In listening to Bellichick McAfee video above, even BB mentions that the draft is about so much more than the game tape. As fans we only get one small piece to a much larger puzzle.

If I am looking closely at a player and I'm blown away by the talent, leadership, scheme fit, great attitude and intangibles are off the charts..?

Certainly other teams will make note of the same thing...

In this case, I doubt JJ lasts beyond pick #4, so the only way to really orchestrate a trade back is with the Pats or Cards. This doesn't seem feasible unless another team gets involved.  I posted a moon shot 3-team trade a few weeks ago that netted the Skins #4 and a bunch of extra picks. Completely dreamland wacko world, but at the same time crazier things have happened.

If Blake Bortles can be the 3rd pick in the draft, ANYONE can.

Apparently the Giants have been putting in work on the QB position so you can't risk them getting involved at 6 or maybe they even try to trade up if one of these guys starts falling. I mean are they really banking on Daniel Jones?  I dont think so...

Unless you can GUARANTEE the #3 or #4 slot, I think you just draft your guy right there at #2.

Keep in mind, draft position only matters if you suck. If the guy is graded high and you trust your process, is there really a huge difference between #2 and #4?

I have to assume most teams draft for long term football success, not so fans and talking media heads can grade their draft "A". I mean didn't most fans here grade the Chase Young pick  "A" in the moment? Most media did too. I dont want an "A" tomorrow, I want an "A+" ten years from now, especially at QB.

For all this endless arguing and analysis between maye and daniels for the past few months to end in mccarthy would be hilarious

I did well on all the quant questions but then they asked me what I would do if I didn't get the internship, and instead of saying something about being passionate about finance and doing something related, I said go work in Hollywood or sports... needless to say I didn't get the gig lol. Funny experience though.

I've been on more "group" style interviews than I can count. It's fairly common in my line of work, especially with bigger companies that have high turnover. It's just an efficient way to weed people out. Once you understand the process behind it, it's simple to advance to the next phase of the process.

Step 1: say nothing unless spoken to

Step 2: confidence is a differentiator

Step 3: be respectful and professional to EVERYONE, including the front desk, parking attendant, even the elevator guy. *One time a company used the elevator cameras to disqualify people*

Step 4: be yourself, everyone else is taken

Basically the entire process is designed to let people to eliminate themselves prior to 1-on-1 interviews. Culls the herd.

Apparently Jayden didn't understand the assignment lol.

It’s just her “take” and probably influenced by other actors.

try not to take it so seriously. (Mod edit)

she also said she loves what the commanders have done this year w coaching and free agency.  Is she wrong there too?

I wonder what we would do with the knowledge.

There for sure would be a section of us that would take his advice and thoughts to heart and adjust. And there is just as assuredly going to be those who disagree with him and stay fast in whatever it is they already believe. And more still, there will be people who disagree with him just to be contrary.

Actually, we would be the same ****ing board with or without his input. Probably more extreme. Smh thats depressing lolol

Yea, it's more a curiosity thing. I mean we can use some process of elimination when the pick is made, but even that doesn't tell the whole story.

I know exactly what we would do with the knowledge:  argue about it endlessly.  Definitely MOAR extreme lol

I think in Peters case even though he was with several other teams, he wasn't the guy with final say in those rooms so it's like a blank canvas that will get some color on it for the first time since now the buck stops with him. I made a joke about this a few hundred pages back about how this team might settle disputes on who to draft, and someone rightly responded with a picture of Peters as the ONLY person making the final decision. I kinda think this SHOULD be the case even though by all accounts communication internally seems to be extremely healthy so far.

Either way, would certainly be fun to be a fly on the wall of those discussions. Maybe one day the NFL will have a show about front office stuff 😎

So I'm sure Peters and Pioli have had in depth man to man, tell me the real deal unfiltered, discussions on Jayden.

    That's good to know.

    Thanks.

Pioli was one of the best talent evaluators during his time with the Pats, although I think Bellichick had final say on personnel.

Fun fact, he married Bill Parcells daughter lol.

I'd venture a guess that Pioli is on speed dial for MANY current GM's and personnel teams across the NFL, not just Peters.

This is the side of the NFL that interests me the most: what does Peters REALLY think about these prospects that we argue about endlessly... We'll never know 😂

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but it just occurred to me that Adam Peters,  who got his start at tge Patriots, may have been hired by, or if not, at least worked with Scott Pioli.

     Anyone know for sure???

They were both (together) with the Pats for five years. Granted at that point Peters was just a scout, but yes Pioli was directly involved with hiring Peters in 2003.

Everything from calling his shot as a recruit, "taking it personal" with Ohio State, beating them 2 times, standing on the field after his two picks cost Michigan the CFP vs. TCU to "soak in the moment" and then winning it this year on one leg (from Penn State onwards) with his head coach suspended for the biggest games of the regular season.

I keep hearing that Michigan just rolled through the year without ANY adversity...

The sign stealing thing could have EASILY derailed their season, it was in the headlines for a MAJORITY of the year and as you mentioned, yes, they even won a big game without Harbs. That's not easy to do with college kids. Pros, not as big of a deal but in college it can't be understated how important the head coach is to the team, especially a guy like Harbaugh.

That team faced plenty of adversity which makes their run even more impressive, and a lot of that had to do with McCarthy's intangibles. He is a special kid and I hope he lands here.

Can I just say without anyone getting mad...

... that it gives me some comfort that Josh Harris will be present for the visits and can hopefully add his $0.02 to help make sure our subject matter experts in Peters and Quinn don't out-think themselves?

    <runs and hides>

I've got no problems with Harris... yet.

It's early in his tenure so I have to assume he is doing what anyone here would do if we took over as Owner of this franchise.

I'd be in every meeting imaginable.

You sort of have to show you’re not just a game manager to go top 3 in the draft. If this team drafts JJ , just sets back the team another 5 plus years. Would be disastrous.

    Let's make a bet.

JJ > JD in 5 years.

You set the parameters or metrics (not rush yards).

I'd be willing to bet a decent amount, but you let me know what you want to wager on this.  Can be just for fun, too.

I think you are flat out wrong about JJ and I'm willing to put my money, or something else of value up, where my mouth is.

Your move, Bayou.  What would you like to do?

I am no expert on their personalities.  But from what I've digested, it would be an environment that I'd guess Maye would be more comfortable with than the other 2.

Drake is the least accomplished guy in the room. Daniels can flash the Heisman pose and JJ will bling everyone in the eye with the Naty ring.

    Just sayin... 😂
