  1. Those sack videos are interesting. Maye actually took worse ones IMO. But it's hard not to notice how slight Daniels is.
  2. Interesting. I thought the consensus among league people, even those who prefer Maye, is that Daniels is a much better processor at this stage and definitely more ready to play.
  3. Dude definitely needs a beer. Will calm him down -- could help him throw with touch instead of lasers all the time, improve his accuracy. Most people don't know that TB12's smoothies always had a shot of vodka in them.
  4. Wouldn't it be better for JJ to be there at 5 so a QB needy team could send a ton of picks to the Chargers, who have a ton of needs?
  5. Daniels didn't get hurt in the SEC, which is the closest thing to the NFL. And based on the reports on his work ethic and intelligence -- the best reports in the draft -- you gotta think he knows he can't put himself at risk. But yeah, his frame concerns me too.
  6. To each their own. Colt was an undersized guy with a below average arm who played for 15 years in the NFL. He must know a little something about playing the position. And I always enjoy listening to Jay talk ball. Has a pretty good rep as a talent evaluator too. They both really like Drake too FWIW.
  7. Daniels also probably brought gifts for all the other invited players -- another thing that explains the big bag. Just like he always took out his linemen for dinner at LSU. Can't believe Maye and JJ are so selfish.
  8. Bigger bag could mean Daniels just came more prepared than Maye and JJ -- would line up with their reputations.
  9. I love Maye as a prospect too, but it's crazy how many don't want to hear all the positives coming out about Daniels. Apparently next level when it comes to work-ethic and leadership, according to the people who have actually worked with him. "Committed to the game and one of the finest young men I have ever worked with" according to Scott Pioli. But on this thread, he's dismissed as an aloof diva.
  10. That Gruden McCoy you tube video is great. Gruden does a really good job explaining why Daniels is so enticing. McCoy loves Pennix. Great stuff overall. Feels like a good year to need a QB.
  11. Not based on hitting what you're aiming for. I will more than happy with Maye, but "if he's such a good thrower why doesn't he throw good?" -- JT O'Sullivan
  12. It's wild to read all this stuff from a lot coaches and execs saying Daniels is the clear number two and that Maye scares him and is probably QB 4 at this point... then come here. I like all three of our options. None of them scream Zach Wilson or Trey Lance, that's for sure.
  13. Still think it's a crapshoot, but it sure sounds like the majority of scouts and coaches think Daniels is the better pick at number 2. And outside of this thread, I keep reading more and more stuff about how Drake Maye scares the hell out of a lot of people. If anything, based on what is out there, JJ might be the pick if it's not Daniels. Then again, everyone thought we were a lock to hire Ben Johnson outside of Keim, Standing, and Adam S. I am fine with whoever we take. Whoever it is, I think will be walking into a good situation -- that is so not the case most times. To add to the fun, this is from Doug Farrar's latest newsletter. "LSU’s Jaden Daniels produced the most impressive deep passing statistics of the last decade in 2023. Daniels completed 53-of-79 passes of 15-plus air yards for 1,783 yards, 24 touchdowns and just one interception. His completion rate of 67.1% on deep passes led the nation. Don’t let your eyes gloss over that number: a completion percentage of 67.1% would be impressive on all passes, including screens and dump-offs. For deep passes, it’s beyond exceptional. Daniels’ Adjusted Net Yards per Attempt (ANY/A) of 28.1 were 34.4% higher than the second-place figure (20.9) of USC’s Caleb Williams. Here are the 2023 deep passing statistics for the major quarterback prospects in the 2024 NFL draft. All stats in this feature come from Sports Info Solutions. Passes of 15-plus Air Yards, 2023 Jayden Daniels: 53-of-79 (67.1%), 1783 yards, 24 TD, 1 INT, 28.1 ANY/A Caleb Williams: 47-of-86 (54.7%), 1612 yards, 16 TD, 3 INT, 20.9 ANY/A Bo Nix: 44-of-78 (56.4%), 1,420 yards, 14 TD, 3 INT, 20.1 ANY/A Drake Maye: 63-of-122 (51.6%), 1884 yards, 15 TD, 4 INT, 16.4 ANY/A J.J. McCarthy: 47-of-87 (54.0%), 1,145 yards, 12 TD, 2 INT, 14.9 ANY/A Michael Penix: 72-of-150 (48.0%), 2,186 yards, 18 TDs, 8 INT, 14.6 ANY/A Spencer Rattler: 35-of-74 (47.3%), 1,081 yards, 7 TD, 6 INT, 12.9 ANY/A Jordan Travis: 28-of-85 (32.9%), 831 yards, 4 TD, 0 INT, 10.7 ANY/A South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler and Florida State’s Jordan Travis will appear throughout this feature’s tables as a kind of control group to illustrate what a lower-tier prospect’s stats typically look like. Rattler and Travis are a clear notch below the others in this category. Daniels attempted just 327 total passes in 2023. Washington’s Michael Penix led the nation with 555 attempts. Naturally, there is a wide disparity in their raw deep-passing numbers. But Daniels threw for just 403 fewer yards in a little more than half as many attempts! And Penix was among the nation’s best-regarded deep passers. Penix’s eight interceptions on deep passes nerf his ANY/A and should give draft analysts pause. No one else besides Daniels really sticks out. Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy and Oregon’s Bo Nix, the purported dink-and-dunkers of this draft class, have competitive deep-passing numbers. Here are the highest ANY/A figures for deep passes (minimum 50 passes of 15-plus air yards) in the Sports Info Solutions database since 2016: Jayden Daniels, 2023: 67.1% completion rate, 28.1 ANY/A Mac Jones, 2020: 61.8% completion rate, 24.2 ANY/A Joe Burrow, 2019: 61.2% completion rate, 23.2 ANY/A Mike White, 2015: 52.0% completion rate, 22.8 ANY/A Grayson McCall, 2021: 63.3% completion rate, 22.7 ANY/A Sam Howell, 2020: 50.6% completion rate, 21.1 ANY/A If we focus on completion rate – a useful metric for accuracy when discussing only deep passes – Daniels posted the highest figure on record in 2023. The only rates over 60% in the database: Coastal Carolina’s Grayson McCall in 2019; Mac Jones at Alabama in 2020, Joe Burrow at LSU in 2019 (all listed above), Nix in 2022 (61.4%) and Matt Corral at Ole Miss in 2021 (60.0%). Daniels’ eye-popping deep-passing figures in the SEC, coupled with his scrambling ability and measurables, are enough to clearly make him a better overall prospect than Drake Maye. In fact, these figures make me wonder if he is a better overall prospect than Williams."
  14. Five mil for Maye to transfer doesn't seem crazy at all. I know for a fact Riley Leonard was offered seven figures to transfer from Duke after his sophomore year. Not sure what Notre Dame is paying him one year later, but I bet it's more. Crazy how all over the map the scouts and blogger boys are when it comes to the top QBS. It does sound like a lot of folks are scared by some of what they see on film with Drake Maye. My favorite was "if he's such a good thrower, why doesn't he throw good" line from JT O'Sullivan. But his upside really is enticing and I think he fits KK's offense better than most analysts are saying -- because he played in a version of it and thrived, correct? But I can just easily make a case for Daniels as well. And then you hear people talk about JJ and it's hard not to get excited about him. It's such a crapshoot. And half the people who are standing on a table for their guy were in love with busts in the past. And none of us know how they guys come off in person and in the QB room. All I really know for sure is thank God we are in this position with a new owner and some real smart people making the decision for a change.
  15. All I know about Caleb is he has a GREAT rep at USC and at Gonzaga High. Everything else is just noise. He's going 1 unless the Bears are nuts. No matter who we take, I feel like the Kingsbury hire was fantastic. He's going to make the transition so much easier for a college QB. The national media doesn't seem to grasp how terrible Bienemy was -- or last year's entire staff.
  16. What a change a year makes. Ron hired cronies and they hired their own cronies. Reid dumped off EB on his "friend" Ron in a masterstroke. We will be so much more prepared this year.
  17. I don't want Johnson either, but my God, it's become very clear that dumping EB off on his "friend" Rivera was an all-time move by Reid. Add it to his HOF accomplishments.
  18. Caleb is so not the guy he has been portrayed. Went to my high school -- his reputation could not be better. Well-regarded at USC as well. Comes from a GREAT family. If you want to ding him for painting his nails and crying with his mom, feel free. But the guy is a freak and a ferocious competitor. If we actually do get Kliff K, I fully expect Peters to at least explore trading up. It will be a game of chicken if nothing else.
  19. Just saying if he was over the moon about Maye maybe he would have wanted the job more.
  20. That would be a shock. I trust Keim on this. Dude rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, not to mention how insane it was to drop back Howell more than any QB in the league .
  21. Certainly Johnson staying in Detroit gives me a little pause knowing how familiar he was with Maye.
