  1. I will talk myself into whoever we pick and root for them like crazy. They all have their pros and cons and they all seem like good dudes who put in the time. Think it's a pretty good situation to walk into for a change.
  2. QB not a RB is hilarious. Best passer in the draft according to some if not most. Man, these biases and narratives.
  3. You can spin a narrative any way you want it. Read something the other day about scouts being turned off by Maye committing to Bama, then getting scared off by the competition and staying at UNC. Which this scout dinged him for. Then I read another scout saying "loved that he never left UNC and was loyal." It's all dumb. But not as dumb as people picking a favorite and then looking at game tape with bias. You see that all the time too.
  4. That Daniels RG3 comparison is pretty lazy. For one thing, Gruden hated RG3 because he couldn't throw with anticipation and "see it" in the passing game overall. Yet he loves Daniels. Because he does those things better than the so-called prototypical QBS in the draft.
  5. I don't know, maybe the real evaluation didn't start until after the season. You know, like it does every year. Good Lord. Usually BB is smarter than this. This draft is making people nuts.
  6. Listened to McCoy on 106.7 He loves Daniels. Grant and Danny are pretty big Maye guys and not so subtly tried to make it seem like Daniels is getting the love because of his legs and flash and that's what the league is looking for now, but McCoy pushed back and made it clear he evaluated Daniels as a passer first and foremost, not a runner. Accuracy is the most important thing to McCoy. He liked Maye too, but taking Daniels number two seemed beyond obvious to McCoy. Anyway, good listen... except Grant and Danny are annoying as can be.
  7. More from that Athletic article -- Offensive Assistant 1: “Penix is third for me. He can already do all the pocket stuff. I just wish he had more juice. He’s more of a slow-burn guy. Get pissed off when you don’t throw one good in the workout. Get excited about something. … If he would’ve run a little more, he would definitely have been top-10. He and Caleb have the best anticipation. He doesn’t take sacks.” On North Carolina’s Drake Maye QB Coach 1: “I wouldn’t take him in the top 10. I just don’t know if he’s ready now to go take over now. He had one of the more impressive interviews I’ve done in years in the NFL. He was very impressive on the board, talking ball and the different systems he’s played in and the responsibilities he’s had.” Scout 1: “He never really learned the proper footwork to be accurate. His arm talent is crazy. He has a lot of upside. But he misses layups. He’s just not a naturally accurate passer. I do think he’s wired right. He has to figure out some things. It’s hard to have a shooter and tell him his jump shot is broken and then rebuild it where you have to play him.” Offensive Assistant 1: “His personality is terrific. His improvement on that pro day was really good, because his film isn’t. His feet are all over the place. He’s off-balance. Everything is a run-around play. At least at the pro day, you could see he had fixed a lot of stuff. It’s gonna be a little while for him.” On Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy Offensive Assistant 1: “He does have talent. People like his personality. He’s a lot like Maye. I think there’s a long way to go for him. On tape, he over-strides a lot. Everything is a flat, hard rocket-shot. You have to throw over guys and around guys and take something off. I do think he can do that, but I don’t think it’s his default. And when something is not your default, you really got to work on it to iron it in.” Scout 2: “The most impressive thing he does is throw on the run. There is some good stuff on his tape, but it’s not like he was asked to make the throws Penix was making. I like him a lot, but I think he’s one of those you don’t want to have to rely on him this year.” QB Coach 1: “J.J. is talented. He’s the youngest of all of ’em. He won and is a very competitive dude. Their style of play and what he was asked to do, you don’t get a lot of answers that show up much on tape.”
  8. It's complicated in NY. Russini spoke to this. If the G-Men take Maye and he struggles and they stink, that staff probably gets fired (or Daboll combusts from rage on the sidelines). And remember -- ownership loves Daniel Jones. Whoever we draft, it's such a good situation for a young QB. The staff is going to get a couple years no matter what and will be all in on developing the QB. And Quinn and GMAP will make sure we have a good D. Going to NE would scare me. You have an owner who is letting his son meddle and nothing to speak of at all on offense. Maybe Brissett buys whoever they take a year on the sidelines, but that is so rare. Also, the Vikings have put themselves in a dangerous situation. They look and are desperate for a QB and have let everybody know it. New England might be able to get an insane haul.
  9. https://theathletic.com/5431528/2024/04/23/nfl-draft-2024-confidential-nabers-harrison-williams/ Liked reading this -- On Jayden Daniels Offensive Assistant 1: “His arm isn’t as good as Caleb’s, but he’s Lamar Jackson-like and he can actually throw progression reads for a living because he’s disciplined enough. He’s the ‘wake up at 5 a.m.’ guy. He had three coordinators in three years at ASU. I’m gonna do something for myself. He doesn’t say s—. The thing I don’t like is you’re not throwing outside the numbers. It doesn’t really zip out there. But he can throw with touch and anticipation. … He’s a passer who just happens to be able to run really good versus the other way.” QB Coach 1: “Jayden is close to Lamar Jackson. He’s not as strong physically as Lamar, but none of these other guys can run like him, and I saw the downfield throws, the middle of the hash throws, and the timing, the accuracy from him. He just does it all for me. I’m confident about him.”
  10. This thread is hilarious. So if we don't take Maye, Peters is bowing down to his coaches and is now a terrible GM? We know nothing. We could still take Maye. Or McCarthy. And who knows? Maybe Peters does lean Maye or McCarthy, but remembers his experience in San Fran when the scouts convinced Shanny to take Lance because of his "traits." Not that Mac Jones would have been a great pick either.' Or maybe the pick will be Daniels just because you know Peters and company after really digging in think he's the best pick at 2.
  11. Taking JJ at number two would take a massive set from Peters. Because if he flames out or is just average while Maye or Daniels becomes a beast...
  12. So would Jayden Daniels and so would Drake Maye. Everybody who has worked with both has said glowing things. Just because Daniels may not fit some people's image of what "the face of the franchise" should look or talk like doesn't mean he won't work his tail off.
  13. Take Daniels if you think he's the best player . Don't overthink it. It's a crapshoot anyway! Plus, it will make all the people with irrational hate and hot takes and coded language about Daniels lose their mind, so it's an added bonus. Would be happy with Maye or McCarthy too. Thursday can't get here soon enough.
  14. I have never seen more grifters in any business than in the football "media" and I work in entertainment. Good Lord. So many takes based on nothing. Okay, Profharvey! You've cracked the code! If the team thinks Maye and Daniels are better players, but they take JJ because of his magnetic personality at Top Golf... I mean, I just can't see it happening. You take him because you think he's going to be the best player period. I mean, it's not like Aaron Rodgers teammates love him. Or even Brett Favre back in the day (the most underreported story ever from a starstruck media). Let's not lose our minds over JJ's firm handshake, people.
  15. Certainly sounds like Keim has heard something that makes him think it's between Daniels and McCarthy. We'll see.
  16. JLC might be the most annoying NFL insider, but it's stuff like this and what Keim seems to be hearing that make me think JJ not Maye is the other option than Daniels. But really his first quote says it all. NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2024/04/19/nfl-draft-first-round-picks/ “Never seen anything like it,” said a high-ranking official with one team that will be selecting a quarterback in the first round. “If anybody tells you they know how this is going to play out, they are full of s---.” “Drake Maye is the biggest wild card in all of this,” said the general manager of a team that has done significant work on quarterbacks. “Some guys love him and think he could end up the best QB in this class, and some legitimately think he’s a mid-round pick.” Two general managers told me they believe that if the Washington Commanders let the analytics guide them, McCarthy is their guess for the No. 2 pick. If the team’s coaches hold significant sway and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury’s voice resonates, then Daniels would be the selection. Both general managers also believe Daniels would love to be a Raider. Meanwhile, the closer we get to the draft, the more people I speak to expect the New England Patriots to keep the third overall pick and use it on a passer — and McCarthy is held in very high regard in New England.
  17. Also, the fact that Bill B stuck with him after Bledsoe was healthy was beyond ballsy. Bledsoe was a solid pro with a massive contract. And Brady was an up and down rookie.
  18. Yep. Situation and coaching means so much. Even with Haskins... remember when he actually looked kinda decent with KOC calling the plays. And then Riverboat Ron was like "nah, I want Norv's son and a brand new scheme." Now Haskins probably would have flamed out no matter what, but the change didn't help. And with Sam... the next gen stats on Eric B's offense are just insane. Sam routinely dropped back and there were no receivers even remotely open because of the play calling. Andy Reid dumping that angry turtle off on Ron was an all-timer. A hoodwink swallowed by a collective of reporters and fans who believed this idea that EB was a genius who unfairly hadn't got a shot when everyone in the league (outside of Ron) knew the real score. Our situation now though, pretty damn good. Quinn is going to get a few years no matter what. No coach is going to make the transition from college to pros easier than KK. Now New England is the situation that would scare me. The Krafts can't wait to interfere after years of being kept at bay. The staff is questionable and poor Mayo has to follow up the guy who won six super bowls. Even worse, the way the Krafts have trashed Bill B since they fired him has made even the Bill B critics pissed. Plus, the offense has no skill players to speak of. I smell a disaster in the making for a young QB. Daniels allegedly wanting to go to either Washington or Minnesota makes a lot of sense to me. Las Vegas is clearly a West Coast thing here more than anything else.
  19. Brady looks so much better now than he did at 22. He was on pace to be bald at 30 and now has the thickest locks I've ever seen at 45. Sign me up for Tb12!
  20. We will look back at this as another case study of when the team says nothing people just make stuff up and some of it becomes a narrative people cling to and report on... and it's all nonsense. So much of it is just 24 hour media cycle click bait nonsense. QB stuff is fun to talk about and gets clicks/viewers. Gets nuttier every year. Keim is the best. Not biased at all. And remember, he was one of the only reporters saying Ben Johnson was not a lock and the team always liked Quinn. No one wanted to hear it, just like some don't want to hear what he's reporting now. Him saying Daniels is most likely the pick is based on the fact that the consensus around the league is that Daniels is the second best QB prospect. On top of that, he maybe has some intel that the team has been leaning that way. But that's just it -- leaning. He doesn't know for sure and he doesn't want to burn anybody. I am fine with Maye or Daniels. Taking JJ at 2 seems like the biggest risk and hardest move to defend if it doesn't pan out and Maye or Daniels become a beast. You would have to have a complete consensus in the building that JJ's the guy you want or you are 100 percent risking your job. Now if you can trade down and then back up, that's another story. But GMAP has made clear they are sticking at 2. Of course, that could be a bluff. We'll see! I really hope Pierce is renting. Also, the fact that Pierce loves Daniels after their time at ASU is a good sign for those in the Daniels camp.
  21. So let me get this straight. First Daniels and now Maye allegedly don't want to play for us. We love them both, but oh well, guess we'll just to have draft JJ instead! Because that's how the league works -- you don't take the guys highest on your board if they have a preference to go elsewhere. GOOD LORD. If a player's preference mattered, half the league would be in South Beach.
  22. If the team thinks JD is the best prospect, they shouldn't give a damn about his agent or his mom. And they won't. The list of players with complicated parents and agents is long.
  23. https://www.si.com/nfl/2024/04/19/2024-nfl-draft-quarterbacks-case-study-top-prospects The more I read articles like this, the more it becomes clear the consensus is 1) Daniels is the second best prospect among NFL folk and 2) the same people think Maye should probably sit a year. Not saying the NFL folk are right -- history proves otherwise -- or that I think we shouldn't take Maye. But this thread is bizarro world.
