After seeing Rosemy-Jacksaint’s 40 time, I thought no way this guy works out.  Seeing the comment that he’s dominant on teams, and given the new kickoff rules, I now think there’s a decent chance he carves out a place on the squad.

That 40 time is so bad, I wonder if it was a fluke. He can't really be that slow, can he?

Crowder isn't a lock to make the roster.

He was so consistent for us towards the end of last season. I can understand how he's not a lock as a starter (which would be totally understandable) but I'd be surprised if he didn't make the roster. He's a great return man, if nothing else.

I loved this pick and was kind of a pound the table pick for me. Super hard worker, tough guy possession WR type of guy is something I've wanted for a very long time. I think he'll move up the depth chart fairly quick. Having guys like this on the field move chains consistently.

Can't take much away from interviews and/or the one Rookie minicamp, but there is something about Luke that tells me he will outperform his draft position. Maybe it's wishful thinking considering his bloodlines, but I like that he's getting early reps with Jayden. I could see there being some good chemistry there.

One thing that's kinda interesting considering Luke isn't even that tall (6'2", I believe), he is the tallest of all our WRs except for that UDFA from UGA. Did I read somewhere where B Mitch thinks he'll end up starting this year over Crowder?

He was a beast 100% yep a dominant DT. Maybe he held out because he didn't like the way he was being used here. I remember having far higher expectations of him than what we got out of him, so I probably didn't like it either.

I am still miffed to hear Newton may not be ready for week 1 and still in a walking boot.

This is gonna end up being a "thing", I fear.

I think he'll get healthy.  He's a special player that is cartoonishly productive when he's out there.  He could have a 60 tackle season as our third IDL.

Last question on Newton since I realize this is the wrong thread - do you think he actually sees the field this year? (not based on skill, based on health)

Magee is probably the guy who is going to blow up and be the steal of the class for us.  He would be my bet anyway.  I can't find enough cut ups to really form my own solid take on him, but what I saw of him looked fine.  A couple of reasons why I think he could be the gem:

    - elite athlete

    - leadership potential.  Background as QB and 2x team captain

    - best mentorship opportunity given the expertise of Dan Quinn and company for developing linebackers.  Scheme should be really favorable to him.

    - gonna get a year to simmer on the bench behind Jamin and Wagner

    - day three linebackers hitting big is fairly common compared to other positions

My guess is that Newton is part of an elite IDL rotation with fringe Probowl pressure/sack production early in his career, Sainristil and Sinnott are solid long term starters, and Magee eventually takes over the starting weak side LBer role next to Luvu.

Agree with your take except for the last sentence. Newton has a boot on his foot. Didn't know he had surgery - apparently 5 months ago (still in the boot). That might have been a reach pick for us now.

I'm wondering if AP will hire a few 49ers scouts ? I found a scout movement tracker but it hasn't been updated.

    Would love this.

Although at a minimum, I just want AP to stock the pipeline of scouts with young, hungry, smart guys who have a working comfort level with analytics and are all bought into what this FO is trying to establish.

His long rooted experience with scouting through the years and organization affiliations leads me to think he will bring in scouting talent from all over the NFL. I already can't wait to see how next years FA and draft plays out!!! Oops, okay lets get through this year first :806:

    Same here, Mr. Winzit.

Not only do I want him to source talent from throughout the NFL, I'm keen for us to finally invest in the scouting department. We need good quality, but we also need quantity.

Unless one of the other four suffers a major injury in training camp / preseason, he is gone. Ridgeway is DQ’s guy from the Cowboys days - when they cut him early in 2022, their goal was to out him on the PS for a game before bringing him back but wr snatched him up because Ron let both Ion and Settle go and left us with Donovan Jeter

Ive been pleased with Ridgeway. He was a rare good pickup by the Rivera regime.

He will be a good rotational piece here.

I expect a big exodus now that the draft has ended and the scout hiring/firing season has begun.

With what our recent drafts have failed to produce, AP could do a clean sweep of everybody, and I wouldn't complain.

In with the good air, out with the bad.

I want us to invest $$$ in the scouting dept. So important.

Of course not, I’m just theorizing that it “can” work. I don’t know how to measure it or why people think this, but he’s pretty universally regarded as having excellent processing ability so in theory, if he’s able to internalize that he can’t out-athlete defenses all the time in the NFL, he should be able to quickly find the open man and get rid of the ball—making his life easier and the OL’s life easier. Will it play out that way? No idea.

That's a big "if", but one he will need to realize if he has any hope of a real career in the NFL. Godspeed, young man. I hope you're able to make the transition.

Our TE room is very different heading into this season...I wonder where things stand with Turner and Armani Roger's in this year's plans? Is Bates a roster lock? Does Sinnott jump to #2 on the depth chart assuming Ertz is #1?

I think Bates is the safest of the three. Rogers is still a project and it looks like Turner is a bust.

We always get excited about these UDFAs and ~1% of the time do they make the roster, much less make an actual impact.

Specific to this guy, I think I can run a 40 faster than he did and I'm 51 years old and have a bad knee.

I think there’s a non-zero chance that Peters, coming from SF, along with Kingsbury think there is a viable way to account for a mediocre at best OL via scheme:

Daniels releasing the ball quickly (and using RB’s and TE’s heavily) can take a lot of the pressure off of himself. We’ve seen it before—Cousins coming in when the OL looked terrible in 2013, Brissett last year.

But do we know that Daniels can do this in an offense yet? Seems like in college, he just ran when pressured.

In the end AP has filled positions of need in FA and in the draft.  He will take care of the OT position before training camp starts too.  So far, his track record is peaked out, IMO.  He's done a masterful job.  :)

We are still thin at OT and WR but otherwise, would agree

Mayhew is a Peters buddy. He will stick unless we find him a ‘better’ gig.

    How about SF?

To be honest, I want to see a bunch of new talent in the scouting office and more scouts. I thought we had one of the most short-staffed scouting depts in the NFL under Snyder.

What a perfect spot for him to land. A year of ST and learning behind Norton and Wagner (I still can't believe he's on our team), with Walker and Luvu.

LBer is a serious strength for the first time in a while.

Getting Wagner, even towards the end of his career, was such a coup for this front office.

    It's a pretty good guesstimate.

Who's your PR if Crowder is cut...Milne, Allen, Dotson? Meh.

I have a hard time seeing Milne and Allen making the team. I feel like Crowders still in.

Crowder just resigned. He ain't getting cut.

It's a moot point now, but just to point out: The last time we drafted a small framed athletic QB at 2, we also drafted another QB.

    That worked out quite well.

Also when SF drafted a inexperienced athletic QB, they also drafted a second QB.

It's business. And it's good business, imo of course.

Just make sure both QBs know the lay of the land. Daniels is the guy they drafted to be the guy. The other is the guy they drafted as a backup and with the hope they have a great problem with two starting caliber QBs.

How about taking a flier on the kid from Tulane? I thought he was pretty good.
