What a perfect spot for him to land. A year of ST and learning behind Norton and Wagner (I still can't believe he's on our team), with Walker and Luvu.

LBer is a serious strength for the first time in a while.

Getting Wagner, even towards the end of his career, was such a coup for this front office.

    It's a pretty good guesstimate.

Who's your PR if Crowder is cut...Milne, Allen, Dotson? Meh.

I have a hard time seeing Milne and Allen making the team. I feel like Crowders still in.

Crowder just resigned. He ain't getting cut.

It's a moot point now, but just to point out: The last time we drafted a small framed athletic QB at 2, we also drafted another QB.

    That worked out quite well.

Also when SF drafted a inexperienced athletic QB, they also drafted a second QB.

It's business. And it's good business, imo of course.

Just make sure both QBs know the lay of the land. Daniels is the guy they drafted to be the guy. The other is the guy they drafted as a backup and with the hope they have a great problem with two starting caliber QBs.

How about taking a flier on the kid from Tulane? I thought he was pretty good.

Unfortunately I fear you might be right. The optimistic view IMO is he starts out on fire until the nagging injuries start to accumulate and gradually sap him of his explosiveness by the end of his rookie deal or shortly thereafter. Sort of like Mariota except he didn’t come out of the gate all that strongly but the minor injuries took their toll rather than a single catastrophic one.

That's not much of an optimistic view ... why would we sign up for that? We have the #2 overall pick. Best to take a guy who is the best long term investment. We are not a QB away from a SB or even the playoffs. Silly to draft a #2 based on who is pro ready but has a high likelihood of a truncated career vs a prospect who has a higher ceiling with the potential to become a Josh Allen or Herbert, albeit in a year or two.

  5. I have to say that I feel incredibly deflated that we are going to pick Daniels. I just can't shake the feeling that he's going to be a complete disappointment. While I don't feel like Maye is a slam dunk, I just feel he has the tools and physical build to be a more likely elite QB. Surprised if Daniels makes it 5 years in the league without a career ending injury.

Watched some more Blake Fisher, he might be the better candidate than Rosengarten to convert to LT, for starters he looks stronger and has more length.

Rosengarten with better feet-athleticism.  Fisher has more of a mean streak and people mover in the run game.   Has work to do in pass protect -- decent at mirroring and anchoring IMO but counters from some pass rushers can give him issues from my watches

That would be a steal for us to take a guy that late and have him become a starting-quality LT

That is the nice thing about not having a coach centric FO.

Adam Peters is a highly regarded, young, new hire. I would assume that he is hoping to work a full career of more than 10 years hear and have a long period of sustained success. I wouldn’t expect for him to make sacrifices in order to get to the first round of the playoffs a year faster.

And Dan Quinn is also a new hire who should get plenty of leash.

Im not sure they will take who I want, but I do trust that the decision making process should be solid and focused on a long term vision.

This is why I hope they take Maye. The better play is to use the rare opportunity to grab a guy with elite upside at #2 overall rather than a 5th year late-riser like Daniels who is who he is at this point - very little upside.

That likely means the FO has to have patience in developing the QB but we have the infrastructure in place to do that now and AP has said in interviews he doesn't feel like they need to rush any rookie into the game before he's ready.

I really, really hope this means they take the chance on Maye and let him sit for a few games/half the season. The reality is that this team isn't a QB away from a SB contender so it's best to roll with Mariotta and work on getting the QB ready behind the scenes while the rest of the roster gets acclimated to the new coaching/culture.

Last year at this point, 30 days before the draft, Will Levis was favored to be drafted 2nd overall by sports books just like Jayden Daniels is now.

2 years ago, everyone claimed that Malik Willis was a sure bet as a top 10 pick.

i would not be shocked to see Jayden fall to the Raiders at all and even further if Antonio Pierce wasn’t the coach there.

We don't know if AP really is as high on him as he said. It is the lying season, after all...

    Good lord!

I was thinking worst case the kid comes in at 205 pounds. lol

If after 3 months of presumably trying to bulk up he ends up tipping the Toledos at a paltry 175 pounds... sheesh I don't see anybody drafting him in the first or second round-- unless it's to play WR.

    Was being purposefully snarky :)

More realistic bear case is that he comes in between 190-200. I think that would still raise some red flags about durability given his playing style.

I believe Kiran and Paul have the longest arms in this draft. Both guys have arms that are 36+ inches. What makes them both interesting is they are also both very good athletes.

Excellent news. I think both are "getable" at our draft pick at the top of the second round.

The success of Lucas and Nsekhe in this league despite subpar (at best) athleticism has shown me the importance of arm length at the tackle position in the NFL

Who are the best prospects amongst draft candidates at the tackle position when it comes to arm length?

Maybe one of those guys falls into the top of the 2nd round?

The more I think about it, the more I’m willing to see Mariota get the start at the beginning of the year, especially if the picks Maye or McCarthy, they are both really young.

On top of that, with the recent turnarounds that Baker and Geno had, maybe Mariota can do something similar, highly unlikely I admit, but he was drafted in the 1st round, so he does have the pedigree.

What I really would hate to see is our young qb forced into competition before he is ready, with an o line that is unable to protect him. We have seen time and time again what happens to young QBs that take a lot of sacks. We even have a term for it, “Ramseyed”.

Someone like Drake that has all the potential in the world, you want to harness that potential. Right now his feet lead him into the pressure quite often. That, in combination with a bad o line could be detrimental to him reaching his potential. I would hope they make sure to get one of those issues fixed before they throw him into the fire.

I'm more than OK with this. Even the most elite of QBs have benefitted from sitting for at least a part of the season before being thrown into the fire. CJ Stroud is the exception, not the rule.

Here is where I have been for a while.

    1. We are taking a QB at #2 overall. You listen to trade back options - but it’s really just noise.
    2. We wont have the option of Williams - he’s going first overall.

    3. The choice is Maye or Daniel’s. Other QBs picked later might end up being better pros - but these two have the highest ceiling after Williams.

    4. No prospect is perfect, they all have flaws. It comes down to how you view what they can do in terms of fit to your scheme and how coachable the flaws are. For me it’s an easier projection that Mayes footwork issues can be coached than Daniel’s can be coached to attack the middle of the field, handle pressure, keep his eyes up when he breaks the pocket and use his arm to make plays out of structure not just his legs.

I’d take Maye. What I think doesn’t matter and I will support whoever they choose.

I'm no expert on talent evaluation but my gut agrees with your take. I think Maye just looks the part (I like Daniel's production but at the end of the day, his build and lack of passes in the middle of the field are too much for me).

The big move left for me is FS, Simmons, or an out of nowhere WR trade.

I would have also added CB but there’s not much doing aside from say Gilmore, and at 10mil on a one year deal I would rather go CB on day 2 in the draft.

I'd rather not trade anything. For us, the draft picks are just too valuable.

But yeah, FS could be a good one. Luckily, we were able to grab a couple of CB already.

Guys we are really overlooking the all-important third...or even FOURTH...QB

Does this guy even know what he's talking about? Advocating for tying up a roster spot with a QB4?

As did I. Here's to hoping we've definitively upgraded at that spot and our draft picks from last year at least demonstrate they've elevated their game to "reliable backup" level.

Zero chance. I'm surprised they're not keeping Swift. Cost probably. They need more heavy duty RBs though, to take some punishment away from Hurts before they break him.

You don't think Barkley fits the bill?

Agree with you that I don't know why they aren't resigning Swift. He was really good for them last year.
