I'm surprised Rivera didn't tell JDR to be quiet long ago.    I thought telling some guy on twitter to bite deez nuts would be the last straw.

Yeah, he has a long pattern of not being able to exercise restraint and professionalism publicly. I can't see why he doesn't understand he's a public figure and reflects on the team given his leadership position.

If he was a much better D-coordinator I could at least understand why the team tolerates it but he's not, so I don't.

I suspect it's because almost everyone got a mulligan for 2020. Probably the rules around Covid practices and the players lost due to injury or illness made it hard to evaluate anyone. That, or Dan's broke, and can't afford a new DC and to pay JDR his leftover guaranteed salary.

I don't buy the former since our poor performance predated our COVID-related absences later in the season.

As for the last bit about Dan's cash position (covered extensively elsewhere), that would be highly troubling and yet another in a long list of reasons NFL should force a sale.

Maybe he tries to sell 25% of the team to come up with the money?

And who would agree to take on a minority stake in this team given that the last set of minority owners were employing scorched earth tactics to get out of their stake? I think the reason the NFL felt compelled to float Snyder a risk-free loan to buy the rest of the team was specifically because there were no other candidates to buy the minority stake.

Anyone know how much the RFK land costs?

It's not a matter of money - I think it's more the matter that it's Federally owned land and it would require a vote in Congress or something like that to start the process of selling it to the City.

This is the type of chatter we need from every politician involved in the stadium stuff. “We’d give an NFL owner money for a stadium and infrastructure, but not THIS owner. Replace him and we can talk.” That’s what the NFL needs to hear.

We should be so lucky. For some reason, I feel like the NFL will circle the wagons around Snyder and politicians will be too chicken to stand up.

It’s very sad that this idea of ignoring subpoenas has been normalized.

Neither Snyder nor Goodell have been subpoenaed, though.

Snyder won't show up. The invitation is obviously a trap anyway, but the committee's expectation isn't that he will appear. They know he won't. It's theater, and his refusal to answer questions will not bode well for the now-delayed vote in the Virginia General Assembly. It will give the skeptics in Richmond - and the number is growing - increasing justification to vote 'no'. And no team-commissioned, hardly credible "study" will sway those making this decision in Richmond, regardless of what Wright may believe.

I believe the invitation is part political theater (as many of these things are) but also an effort to give each of them the opportunity to give their side of the story. If they refuse, the Committee will issue a report based on the information it's gathered already.

NFL did respond to this invitation today with a statement saying they've already turned over a lot of information. So the Committee is likely tying up loose ends but already has most of what it needs.

Except Dan Snyder pre-Bruce Allen was not known for being cheap. In fact, he was well known for overspending and throwing his money around at anything that moves.

Easier to do when your other outside business had yet to be run into the ground (Six Flags, Johnny Rockets) and you had minority owners to help offload the sting of large cash outlays.

Now he's on an island and all cash comes from him.

I spend a lot of my working days digging through rich people's finances and can confidently say that purchasing a $48MM home is not a key indicator that someone is doing well, particularly from a cash perspective.  Rich people in general make all their moves at the banks risk vs. their own whenever possible.

I'm guessing in this case the "bank" is the "NFL" given how levered he is and that they were the originators of that "risk-free" loan he got as a reward for being a totally horrible human being.

Reading all of your posts and watching the video clips I'm thinking Robinson was picked to play a bigger role than I originally thought. This kid may become our next feature back sooner than later. Not sure what that means for Gibson?

    1) He had fumbling issues at critical moments during the season

    2) His body is still getting used to taking the punishment of being a featured RB - maybe this is a way to ensure he doesn't wear down

    3) The coaching staff might start to use him more creatively now that we have more of a bell cow RB on the roster (this would be a good thing, IMO)

I don’t want average from that group.

Sweat was a 1st round pick and Young was the second overall pick.

    Average is not good enough.

(I get Young is coming g off an injury and so you have to take that into consideration.)

I said above-average, not average. But i understand your point. With a DL made up of all 1st rounders, one of which was taken #2 overall in the draft, we need to get a lot more out of them than what we saw last year.

I hope the play from the ends was a slump and I'm encouraged with Allen stepping up. Keeping fingers crossed.

I could be misunderstanding you here but the salary cap isn’t any amount of money that the team GETS from the league. It goes up based on the broadcasting deals the league makes and other modifiers, but it’s not directly based on cash going to each team. It’s what they’re allowed to (and have to up to a certain salary floor) spend, which I’m sure you know. But it still comes from each individual team, which yes is a business rather than any single person, but in the end still comes from the pockets of the owners. In our case, Snyder has 100% ownership and no minority owners to share the burden with so I’m sure he feels it more than he used to—and many other factors of our failure and his other businesses’ failures contribute as well to his lack of liquidity (if it exists) I’m sure.

But I just wanted to point out that in no way does the team “get salary cap money” to spend.

Doesn't Snyder get a cash stream from the revenue-sharing model the NFL employs? Honestly not sure how that money (in particular, the money from the broadcasting deals) finds its way to each team and when that cash hits the books during the fiscal year.

I think there is above 50% chance that we are still going to employ the choke the game out method of stiff defense, and trying to pound the air out of the ball. Regardless of QB limitations before hand, that was how our roster was constructed to play.

We will be even better equipped to deploy this style this year w/ the addition of the rookie big RB, and a healthy Samuel who will also get several carries a game.

I'm not expecting massive increases in the passing attack. I'd expect something similar to what the Colts ran last year.

I really hope Robinson ends up adding a lot to this offense. Would also like Dyami to take the next step, especially with a QB that can air it out for him. It plays to his strengths.

    12 minutes ago, Conn said:

I’m not sure where people get the idea that this team is built to run the ball and choke the clock. That’s how we won our best games the last few years because our QB play sucked and that’s how you manage risk and live in the margins of error of better teams so that you have a chance to steal games you shouldn’t.

But this defense is built to pin its ears back and attack. This offensive line is one of the best pass blocking units in the league. We have a lot of resources and cap dollars (current and projected) put into explosive receiving weapons at WR, RB, and even TE when Logan Thomas is healthy.

Then add the investment and screaming need for Wentz, who is a risk taker and gunslinger, not a game manager.

This roster is built to build a lead and then hold it. We can go the other way, grind clock and slow play close games. But I think the “dream” is that Wentz hits his ceiling and Turner lets him loose, building a lead that Robinson and Gibson can punish defenses with as our defense attacks QBs in obvious passing situations.

My concern is that Logan Thomas may not play to start the year given his injury. Not sure how much we can count on him to contribute meaningfully. Given that, we lack a large target on the O unless you are banking on Cam Sims somehow becoming a huge favorite of Wentz's given his love of big WRs. That may end up being the case, but Sims hasn't shown so far that he's anything better than JAG.

I don't understand how the same defense from two years ago, with way more talent wouldn't return to form.

I fully expect top 10. With a huge uptick in sacks/pressures due to a combination of player development & playing with a lead more often.

I don't want to hear any excuses about how an entire defense sucks because a couple players didn't show up for the first week of OTAs.

I want to see Chase and Montez eat, Allen continue his dominance. And situational players like Mathis and Toney combine for 5 sacks.

My wonder is what we will see scheme wise. More buffalo? Was the lack of running base 4-3 due to not having the personnel? How much man vs zone will we run? And who will be starting outside vs in the slot (does St.Juste emerge?).

Icing on the cake is if we hit on one of our UDFA or our 7th rounder Holmes.

With the talent on the roster if this D doesn't at least get into the top 15, it falls on the coaches.
