  1. How can you discount season tickets when ALL the tickets you sell are season tickets. Discounting season tickets only works if you also sell a substantial number of individual game tickets. Baseball is a perfect example. Depending on the team, half or less of the seats are season tickets and the rest are sold on a game by game basis. Discounting season tickets to attract people to buy seats to all the game is a sure revenue source as opposed to hoping you can sell those seats to individuals for all 82 games at full price. Certain NFL teams do this also because they do not sell out their general admission seats. Redskins club seats are sold at a discount when you negotiate your contract because there is not enough demand to set a standard price for all club seats. It is just classic economic behavior.

You really expect a team to discount season tickets when they have sufficient demand to buy all the tickets at the price set by the team? That's just not logical business. You don't give away money to be a nice guy. Clearly people advocating this do not run their own business.

  2. Always interesting to hear how ****ing people conveniently ignore the facts. Yes, parking went up $100 from 2015 to 2016. Yet these same ****ing people ignore that there was NO ****ING increase from 2013 through 2015. Let me repeat.... NO ****ING increase. ZERO. NADA.

SO.....using my lower level tickets as an example, the total cost of tickets, parking, tax and shipping for two in 2013 was $2,823. In four ****ING years, my total cost of attending Redskins games went up $100 or 3.54%. NOT 3.54% per year but 3.54% after 4 years. That's LESS THAN ONE PERCENT per year. IF you have upper level seats that are cheaper than mine, well then, your percentage increase is slightly higher.

And as I have said before, complain about the total cost of attending Redskins games (or NFL games in general) and whether you get value for your money; but complaining about a $100 increase in 4 years is silly and stupid. And I'll add this...that percentage increase in attending Redskins games over four years is a full point lower than the national inflation rate from 2012 through 2015.

OK, I'll get off my soapbox now.....you guys can go back to grade school....

  3. Skinsfan1311 -- Bruce was totally honest. The season ticket price did not go up. Not everyone pays for parking. LOTS of people come via Metro or park offsite. So yeah, parking went up but the season tickets did not. That's not lying or playing games, or giving you the finger. The problem is yours. You need to separate the two. Two different things. Take the metro or park offsite. And it is 4 straight years of no ticket increase. Anything else you buy that the price has remained the same for 4 years? I thought not.

If you want to ****, **** about the total cost of season tickets regardless of the increase. $2400 out of my pocket gets harder to justify each year when I get no salary increase from my company. The cost of everything else is rising (with gas the exception).

Now, Green Bay has said today that the NFL is considering dropping a pre-season game. So the variable pricing has more affect on us and most other NFL fans whose teams have done exactly what the Redskins did this year. By lowering the price of a pre-season game and spreading that price out over the 8 regular season games, the Redskins (and the other NFL teams with variable pricing) will lose less revenue IF the NFL votes to eliminate a preseason game. So that's the real advantage to the NFL teams. They can eliminate a preseason game without losing 1/10 of the season ticket price in revenue; they lose a smaller amount of revenue. Pretty slick on their part to conserve their revenue from one pre-season game. Not that I like it; but it is a smart business decision to conserve some revenue that they would have lost without variable ticket pricing.

  4. You questioned my veracity??? :P As hail2skins and MarkB452 wrote, Bruce clearly says a two tier system and the language used clearly suggests a difference in cost between pre-season and the regular season games. Bottom line there is no change in season ticket total cost. I think this just sets up a plan to increase regular season tickets more next year anyway unless the Redskins season goes into the crapper.

  5. Redzone parking went up $10. It's let's you in an hour early, and they are bigger spaces. Everyone knew those would go up this year. I bet they are $75 by 2018.

I think all parking went up $10 per game; my green parking went up $10 per game.

If the Skins followed the model of the Patriots that I linked above, here's how it would shake out for this season:

The face value of the two preseason games will be half of what you paid this season

The face value of four of the regular season games ("premium games") will be the same as what you paid this season

The face value of the remaining four regular season games ("marquee games") will be about 25 pct more that what you paid this season.

In other words, if you had a $130 seat, that seat will be $65 for the two preseason games, $130 for four of the regular season games, and about $162.50 for the other games. The higher-priced games this season, if I were to guess, would be the three divisional games and the Steelers game. Although Green Bay and Carolina are also coming in, so it'll be interesting to see how the tiering shakes out.

I got my letter from Bruce today. It is just a two tier system. Preseason one cost and the regular season a higher cost. Ticket prices to be announced later. They could cut the preseason tickets in half and add the lost revenue / 8 games. In my case, the regular season games would be about $14 more if they cut the two preseason games in half. Who knows what the price point will end up being. Won't be a big increase per game because they are taking money from two games and spreading it out over 8.

  6. As someone who often donates a preseason game this just lowers my tax donation value. Oh well.

So you're saying that if you sell a marquee game that people really want to see, you can make more money instead of trying to give away a pre-season game that no one wants to pay for. Is that correct? :P

  7. This feels like a slap in the face. The letter that came with the invoice talking about how they "listened" to us about preseason pricing..I can just see the marketing ween snickering as he wrote it. I would've rather had just a general price increase than this. This feels like an intentional directed insult. And then to jack up the parking yet again was just an extra little bit of a "screw you" that I could've lived without.

It's just the process of slowly changing the cost of tickets for regular season games vs preseason. In a future year, we'll probably see the preseason ticket stay the same and the regular season games go up. Did you really expect the Redskins or any of the other NFL teams going to variable pricing to REDUCE the preseason ticket cost. Don't take it so personally. Frankly, I'm happy there is no ticket increase after we won the division. In every other year that we did well, season ticket prices went up. Yeah, I know, parking went up; but it also went up in those other years, too.

  8. Just a question for those who are more knowledgeable about the finances of the NFL: With the TV contracts becoming more and more lucrative for the league, how much of the TV money goes into funding players and coaches salaries, etc?  In other words, is there any reason for any team NOT to spend up to the salary cap?  Granted, all of the owners still want to maximize profits (see the Rams owner moving to LA), but was under the impression that stadium attendance and parking revenue were probably less important in funding a team's operations than they used to be. Is this correct?

The NFL is quite the socialist country club. TV revenues do get shared among the teams. Even some of the wealthy teams like NE, Dallas, Washington, NYG and NYJ share some of their revenue with the lower revenue teams like Cincinnati, Jacksonville, etc. I have read a number of articles in the past where many teams spend well less than the salary cap each year although the last CBA required teams to start paying closer to the salary cap either in the coming year or 2017...I forget the details. Others spend less on coaching, scouting, etc. Cincinnati is well know to not have a scouting department. They participate in a league wide scouting venture that is shared among all the teams. Articles have noted that owners like Danny and Jerry who market the hell out of their teams to raise revenue are annoyed with teams like the Bengals who will not even sell stadium naming rights let alone raise ticket prices or perform other typical marketing to raise revenue. They are not too happy about forking over millions of dollars to other owners who do little to raise their own revenue. By the way, this is in addition to the 1/3 of the game ticket revenue that each team shares with the visiting team.

As a more direct answer to your question, why spend money on players, coaches, etc. when you can line your own pocket? Some teams remain the dregs of the league as much for their unwillingness to improve as their inability to make sound business/football decisions (Danny has fallen into the latter category as well as Jerry Jones over the past 15-20 years)

Money from attendance, parking and concessions is not pocket change. My back of the envelope estimates suggests Danny make $75-100 million on tickets and parking alone each year. Add in concessions which all belongs to him and that's substantial revenue. And then there is product sales and advertising/marketing. Nothing to sneeze at.

NFL owners keep most of this close to the vest; but stuff gets out from time to time. If you want to research this, I can highly recommend googling reporting by Daniel Kaplan for the Sports Business Journal. I follow him on twitter and he seems to have the best current NFL financial information. Suffice to say these billionaire NFL owners make good money.....

  9. I think you can count on it.

Wow...guess I was wrong. My season tickets did not increase. I sit in the lower level. BUT...Danny did increase my parking $100. Unlike the GA ticket money that has to be shared with the visiting team, Danny gets to keep all the parking fees he collects. His mommy did not raise no dummy. Why increase tickets $100 and give 1/3 to the visiting team when he can keep all the parking money for himself.

What?  For what?  That's a 25% increase.  It's a piece of asphalt for heavens sake.

You have to think of it like you purchase anything else. Don't parse it. Consider the total cost (the item, tax and shipping) What is the total cost of going to the game? If you take the Metro, there is no increased cost of attending the game. And this way Danny gets to keep all the money for himself instead of sharing part of it with the visiting team. He does spend $$ on our team. He has never been shy of spending his team; just has never spent it well. Rather pay a $100 increase in parking than a $100 increase in the ticket price, personally.

Of course, I'd really prefer to pay a hell of a lot less for the total package than I have to. But it is what the market will bear. Still less than most of the large market teams....NE, Dallas, NYG, NYJ, etc.

  10. Today on Stubhub for the Miami game, there are midfield clubs, b/t the 40s, home side. Listed price is less than STH's cost for comparable lower level seating. This is a record low for the secondary market on opening day. We haven't even started losing yet.

    http://www.stubhub.com/washington-redskins-tickets-washington-redskins-landover-fedexfield-9-13-2015/event/9298613/

On the other hand, almost all GA tickets are going at cost or higher everywhere in the stadium. Yes, there are a few singles going for less than cost. How many fans buy just one seat for a game? And there are a handful of 2 seats and higher showing $5-10 under cost. The only real problem are the club level seats.

This as of 1:34 pm on Friday.

  11. So what is this you are talking about?  I saw pre-season live mentioned somewhere else (this board I think).  What are they offering?  $100 for all preseason games?  I don't get what you are talking about with the delay.  Are you talking about online?  Probably....

*edit* I just checked that other thread and have a better idea now.

The NFL eliminated PreSeason Live and combined it with GamePass. GamePass costs $119, I think. You still get the preseason games live; you also get to watch any regular season game on your phone or tablet after the 4pm Sunday games are over. Essentially, you can watch the games tape delayed. Whoop-De-Doo. IF you get the NFL Network on your satellite or cable, and most do, you can also watch or DVR the whole game on the NFL Network station. IF I have to wait to watch a regular season game till Sunday night, I might as well watch the next day for free on my big screen TV for FREE. And if you have the Sunday Ticket, why waste your money on GamePass? The only advantage is if you video analyze games to death, as a few do, then it would be useful since it also includes the All 22 coaches video view.

Just irritates me that the NFL blacks out my CSN feed for Redskins games that I get on DirecTV and then screws me on the preseason games on top of it.

  12. Another problem with all these streams is they use the Adobe Flash Player which is full of security holes. Most browser companies recommend uninstalling Flash because it is an easy vehicle for malware and viruses. I uninstalled it months ago. Others want your credit card number and email address even for a "free" trial. I just don't trust these sites. I checked several of them out earlier because I really wanted to watch the game. But they are all sketchy sites. Damn NFL. They eliminate the Pre-season Live for $20 to force people to buy the GamePass at $100+. It is a huge ripoff for those of us who already have the NFL Sunday Ticket. Why do I want to buy the regular season games that are delayed until after the 4pm games are over when I have the Ticket. The NFL is just a bunch of greedy SOBs.

  13. The DirecTV installer will need access to the inside of your house to install all the control boxes and make sure everything works. Its a free installation. Just be there when he is there to install. My installer was perfectly fine and did the job quickly and efficiently. He preferred to run his own cable outside the house to ensure the signal was good. What's wrong with new cable? He won't replace your interior wiring if you do not want him to. But he has to hook it up.

In addition, the the costs, you may also have to pay a $10/month HD fee and other stuff. The sales guy on the phone can give you the full cost without you having to commit. Talk to someone. Don't just try to do it on the internet if you are a first timer.

Yes, the most irritating thing is the loss of signal during bad thunderstorms; only when the darkest clouds are over head, not during the entire storm. It sucks;  But the quality of the picture here in Harrisburg PA was/is far superior to what I had with Comcrap. It's also been 6-7 years and I have never had a single problem with any of the equipment including my DVRs that allow me to save TV programming. But it does always seem a thunderstorm hits when I want to watch or record something really good. But if you want the NFL ticket, you have no other options. Trust me Comcrap and FIOS lose their signals too during a thunderstorm. Where do you think their TV signals come from?   ....yes from a satellite. So if their local station gets hit with a thunderstorm, their signals go out, too. But those stations do have better technology and larger sophisticated satellite dishes so the problem is not as often as a local satellite dish on your roof.

You will most likely get a 2 year contract and the discounted programming and free NFL Ticket only lasts the first year. Sometime in the second year you will have to call customer service and ask for a "deal" or threaten to quit/stop service to get a better "retain the customer" deal. It's a pain. But it is true with DISH, Comcrap and FIOS, too. You have to play their little game. I have to call in a few weeks to get my "deal" and NFL Ticket for free or a significantly reduced rate. Just the way all the cable/satellite/phone companies are doing business these days. It sucks.

  14. Classy ticket package this year. What do I do with the cardboard ticket holder? Seems too nice to throw away. I think the rewards program is a nice touch. Hopefully, they will be adding more items to the available list. Gotta go and put my season ticket holder pin on my Joe Gibbs Redskins hat.....

    Ready for some Redskins Football!!!!!!

  15. So do they not give parking passes for pre-season, or is it just me??

If you are a season ticket holder and purchased season parking passes, you should have a parking pass for each pre-season game. IF not, you need to call the TO immediately.

22000 yards to start for the rewards program, cool, but doesnt seem like you can gain many yards at a time

But you will gain 22,000 yards next year and the following years. Let them accumulate for something big in the future. There was also a brief description to pickup some additional points in the future for other things. The site is a little sparse on details, particularly on things that can be bought.

  16. My wife went back to work this year so nobody is home during the day any more to receive our tickets.  I'm unreasonably nervous about this.

My internet notice from FedEx says no signature required. So there should be no issue, unless the delivery guy is concerned about theft. Usually, if theft is a concern, e.g. row houses in an urban area with no place to hide the package out of sight, the FedEx and UPS guys have the authority to leave at a neighbor's house or leave a note that they will retry delivery the next day, or you can pick it up at the local office.

  17. I haven't heard anything about my tickets. Did you get an email?

Yes, I did. But Chip got an email 2 days before me. So the emails may be going out as the tickets get shipped. Patience. They will arrive soon. ;)

My tickets are now at my local FedEx hub. But they are not scheduled for delivery until Tuesday.

  18. I find it interesting how when reducing seats in the stadium they decided to leave obstructed view seats, and instead remove other seats.

Those seats sell out because they are much cheaper...and in fact many are quite good in the first five rows or so. The seats being removed from the upper level go unsold. So which seats would you remove? The ones you cannot sell season tickets for or the ones you can. Pretty easy business decision IMO.

  19. Did anyone get the email about upgrading to club level seats?  I checked in with them and they were offering endzone seats for $2000 per ticket.  I told them I would like to try out the club level first before committing.  Trying to get them to give me a relocation pass to try out a game similar to what they did for the upper bowl members.  They said they will see what they can do.

Remember, club contracts are all negotiable including the price. Skins have lots of club seats available. Low ball them and make sure anything special you want is included; e.g. jerseys, signed stuff, field passes, parking, and of course the length of the contract. And don't forget this is a contract. You can't just walk away if your disposable income declines. They are nice seats but I could never afford $4,000 for 2 seats plus parking. Good luck.

  20. Thanks SonnyandSam. That was really helpful. I also go with a kid many games so i am not sure the extra noise will be ideal but I figure 200 will be loads better than 100.

They are letting me get them cheaper this year and then full price next year. I guess I hope we make the playoffs this year and I have good seats for it all! ;)

The other plus, if you have a kid, most people sit most of the game in the 200 level. In the 100 level, people stand almost the entire game. A real problem for kids. And Yes, we do stand up and cheer during big plays or key 3rd and 4th downs. We just happen to use the seats for their intended purpose. :D Good luck with your decision.

  21. They ripped out more seats and so I have to move ....Again! All I want is my 50 yard line (nosebleed) but nothing exists.

I like that view of the game.

They are trying to convince me to take 237. Anybody sit there or have a thought?

I am not excited about the corner. I take a kid often too and I dont like being near the rowdys.

    So frustrating.

I sat in 237 the past two years. Upgraded to 238 this year. First, the 200 level seats are the best seats in the house IMO. Now 237 and 50 yard line are two different issues. I used to sit upstairs about the 20 yard line in row 5 several years ago. Moving down was the best thing I ever did. More crowd noise, more game noise, closer to the action which put me more into the action and the game. If it were me, I would prefer 237 over mid field in the 400 level...but that is me. Some insist on the 50 yard line seats. Is it more fun to watch the Skins score a touchdown right in front of you or from the 50 yard line 1,000 feet up in the air? If you sit at the 50, you are never close to the action when the Skins score. I prefer being close to the action. From section 237, action on the other end of the field and your angle will not be as good as a 50 yard line seat. But the large video screens help compensate. There are tradeoffs. Another benefit. You can beat traffic out of FedEx if you sit in the 200 level. You can be out the gate before most of the stadium if you want. No more long walks down the ramps or waiting in line for the escalator; on the other hand the ramp walk is a lot of fun when (if?) the Skins win. Another benefit, you are protected from rain and snow if you are in row 3 or higher.

Another negative is that the section 237 seats are going to cost you more. Maybe they give you a break this year; but eventually, they will cost you more than upstairs. But me....I would not hesitate to take the seats...but that is just my opinion.

  22. I just don't know how anyone can enjoy the view from the cave especially from say row 7 on back when it gets really bad and you see about 10% of what is occurring.

Sorry, but that is not correct. Clearly, you have not sat in the "normal" 200 seats. Anything back to row 13 (including in front of the obstructed view sections) has as good a view as anyone in the 100 level; better frankly in my opinion, because of the angle towards the field. Even in the obstructed view seating areas ONLY on the visitor side, seats in rows 14-16 are not bad at all in most locations. You might miss a high kickoff or punt. But generally your view of the field is excellent unless you are sitting next to a pillar. Seats in the middle of those rows are very good.

Even deep in the cave, you see far more than just "10% of what is occurring". But the loss of large sections of the field caused by the pillars, depending on exactly which seat you are in, is annoying....and frankly just plain wrong to sell such seats.

    Seat 9 is still there!

What do they do with all the singles?

I've read here in the past that some have bought a single seat and used that as leverage with the TO to buy two seats together in the following season; or combine it with 2 or more seats they already have to get 3, 4, etc seats together in a better location. There are ways to "cheat" the upgrade system if you are smart and get a willing TO agent.
