Art Posted January 30, 2002 Share Posted January 30, 2002 Smoot's ban was short-lived.<br /><br />Smoot is free to re-register and post as he wishes. His ban came about not by anything he provided here. He apparently got a bad taste about this board from the manner in which is "information" was greeted and he soured on it to the point that he took a shot at us on CPND. <br /><br />That was seen and he was banned because of it. I have persuaded the ban to be lifted and it has been. Smoot is a guy with a lot of spunk and that is going to rub people the wrong way, especially when he posts an informational that is well meaning but, for Smoot here, of unknown quality.<br /><br />I've seen Smoot post some on point stuff. I've seen him blow some stuff. How you guys interact with him in the future if he posts here is up to you. I think that thread was a lot of fun until the smack degraded into silly taunts. PCS Posted January 30, 2002 Share Posted January 30, 2002 That's actually good to know Art. I watched the uniform thread kind of degrade after awhile. As I said in another thread, that was too bad. It was an honest attempt at info sharing. He is young and does need to learn to take a little bit of what he dishes out, but I think some of us are old enough to practice a bit of patience too. <br /> I've read quite a bit of the lads stuff over the past few months and find him kind of fun. I hope he does so with more tact than he has shown to this point.<br /><br />I am not one to get offended. I was not offended by Smoot21. However, if that thread degraded it was mostly due to Smoot himself. <br /><br />I don't recall reading any posts other than his directing anyone to parts their anatomy. I can't recall any member, after learning the way you move through the icons by posting and spending time here, demanding a special icon for themselves and then pouting when the red carpet isn't under their feet. We have plenty of folks here who share good information without all the BS. Attitude is fine, but idiocy should be left to the Philly fans.<br /><br />So, yes, if he's of a mind to return and add something here, more power to him. fansince62 Posted January 30, 2002 Share Posted January 30, 2002 i have no problem with smoot21. what i object to is the swiftness by which his posts degrade into personal attacks when he feels he must wear his "Skins Defender" cape. i don't have time for bs like that, especially since i can't reach through the ether and throttle his neck. after a point, there is a degree of respect on this board accorded to all the members - i have transgressed it a few times and apologized in private e-mail. smooty seems a tad too wired for me. but....like the others.......if he wants to become part of the community here, he is more than welcome! I've seen you write 4 or 5 times how you like the guy, like his style, like his spunk ... whatever. Obviously you've been exposed to him when he's acted better than he has here over the post few days.<br /><br />Tell me something good or unsual, or unusually good about the guy. In this case, he may have gotten a good piece, but, he's missed more than he's hit since I've watched him over on CPND. What I like about him is his spunk. I like seeing him attack the unwary with an ignorant blitz of unwarranted sniping. See, to me, that's funny stuff.<br /><br />But, I can understand how it grates on others and what happened to him here was making an assumption he is the be all of all that is inside information without any validation, then being hurt by the fact he wasn't just taken at his word. Everyone here has to post in more context than that but he didn't want to and he got smacked for it, then got upset with us all.<br /><br />But, I maintain I like a little fire and controversy and interplay that isn't always flowers and light. I liked RuBucs too after a fashion, though, he was not as funny because he legitimately believed some of what he said and Smoot is more of a persona than a prima donna. <br /><br />But, hey, we each have our tastes. I am not vouching for Smoot and you've seen I warned him that I wasn't going to give him that long a leash before I start bashing him in the special way I do. But, for what he is, he is an entertaining diversion and a fun guy to watch go to work because he doesn't have any real capable style to tell him when enough is enough. He just hammers until the nail is no longer visible and that's funny to me. Only thing is, once started rarely does it stop until either someone goes too far or it just gets boring.<br /><br />One of the things I like best about this board is the generally civil tone. In an open forum such as this I think that's rare. Especially when considering the broad diversity of us all. It's commendable to everyone here that it remains so.<br /><br />And yet ... there are times when I miss the verbal jousting. I'd like to see a LITTLE more of it, but not a lot. It's fun to have a heated debate and I thought some of the most interesting discussions we've ever had here was shortly after Sept. 11 and having the wide range of ideas offered about at the time. My only concern with that type of thing is more than one combatant takes it more seriously and leaves the board in a huff. For me, it's just a fun debate, and for many others the same. I'd like to see a bit more of it without the hurt feelings, but, it's a trade off I'm not sure can be found without ultimately becoming TSN <img border="0" title="" alt="[smile]" src="smile.gif" /> .<br /><br />Smooty here knows no ends to his madness and that's part of the spunk I don't mind from him. I doubt he'll return now as he may be more sensitive about this stuff than some of the more mature audience may be, but, in my eyes, he's a good little raucous kid and we should like having him around next time we have to bash one of the Palookas that visits <img border="0" title="" alt="[smile]" src="smile.gif" /> . I must admit that I do sometimes miss the old TSN days where if the mood suited me I could head on over to the Dallas board spoiling for a fight. Still, one rule I always held for myself was that I never fought with a fellow Skins fan. It just seemed counter-productive. Then again, I don't think I ever saw anyone pick so many fights with his Redskin brethren as this Smoot fellow just did. Like Art, I got a chuckle out of his stuff.<br /><br />If this kid stops pouting and want to post, I say let him. We let all sorts of trolls hang around, why shouldn't Smoot be any different?
