REDSKINS HEAD COACH JAY GRUDEN

Injury update:

"[Ryan] Kerrigan has a groin strain, we’re getting an MRI on him tomorrow. Keith Marshall has an elbow sprain, MRI tomorrow. Morgan [Moses] has an ankle sprain, he’ll be day-to-day. [Quinton] Dunbar has a shin bruise, he’ll be day-to-day. Looks like it’ll be okay.”

On QB Kirk Cousins’ performance:

“Well obviously we didn’t come out the way we wanted to. We struggled early. But I like the way we came back and just kept battling and we obviously got the ball in the end zone three times, which is nice. I’d like to see us be a little bit more crisp, we got a lot of penalties. A couple turnovers—one turnover called back. We had a couple of penalties that kept one of our drives going. Wasn’t as crisp as I would have like to have seen it. But that is a good defense over there, a good scheme. And the penalties and some of the things that we did hurt ourselves. Overall, I like the way we at least rebounded and got some drives in the end zone.

On if this is WR DeSean Jackson’s best preseason:

“Yes, yes. He’s been outstanding. He’s definitely a playmaker. He’s got great speed still, he’s into it. He’s excited to play, he’s excited to practice and it’s carrying over into the game. He’s definitely a player that makes a difference, that’s for sure.”

On his level of concern for RB Keith Marshall and LB Ryan Kerrigan:

“We’ll have to wait and see. They’re both getting an MRI so we’ll find out tomorrow.”

On RB Robert Kelley’s performance:

“He ran hard. I thought he ran hard. Protected the football, had a couple of good blitz pickups that I saw. I’ll have to make sure I look at the film and see how he did in protection overall. But for the most part I’m happy with the way he played. I’m happy in the way Mack Brown came around for him. He ran the ball well also so Matt Jones coming back will be a big help obviously, and Chris Thompson. So still some decisions to be made but I’m happy in the way these guys competed.”

On Su’a Cravens’ development:

“Yeah, I’m happy with the way it’s gone. You know, 20 years old, he’s still learning and growing and I think when he gets a couple of years in the league he’s going to be all over the joint, but right now I think this is a great starting point for young football players. Learning the position, he’s going to master this position so that we can branch off and use him in different areas. Pro football’s not that easy for a guy coming out of college to learn two or three positions. It’s hard enough to learn one. So let’s just focus on one right now and we’ll branch off later.”

On CB Josh Norman’s and CB Bashaud Breeland’s performances:

“I saw guys running around making some plays. You know, we put them in a bad field position with the interception, but they came back opened the field up which is good to see. I saw Norman break up a pass or two. I saw Breeland compete, breaking up a pass. Those two guys are excellent corners and they’re a force to be reckoned with.”

On offensive line penalties:

“I saw two of them on the big screen. You know, I’m not going to question the officials here but I’ll have to look at them again. I thought one of them was fine, but we’ll look at them. We’ll have to address them. The penalties—offensively—were too many. Kory [Lichtensteiger] I think had three, I think called against him. Logan [Paulsen] I think had one, I think that was a pretty good block by him also. But, we had some other ones. [Ty] Nsekhe had an illegal hands to the face which I think was a great call. We have to get those cleaned up, you know, those things are just—it’s hard enough to go down the field on a first and 10, second and 10, when you had first and 20, second and 25, it’s darn near impossible in the NFL. So, it’s something that we have to address and fix.”

On C Bryan Stork’s arrival:

“Supposedly he’s coming in tomorrow. That’s the latest. We’ve been in the hotel all day and they are communicating with his agent. And I think he’ll make a final decision here tonight and be here tomorrow so we’ll see.”

On interceptions:

“I don’t know. You know, it’s a combination. We had a couple dropped passes, we had an interception, another interception called back. The interception was a good play by the corner. He threw the ball late and inside. He missed it inside which you can’t do on a comeback route. You know, I don’t know if it’s rust—it could be rust. He had some pressure in the pocket on his feet and didn’t get and didn’t get enough on it. We’ll have to check out the film to find out why and coach him up.”

On if his preparation will change because of the injured players:

"We just have to do our best. They have to spend a lot of time with Larry Hess, our trainer. We have to get ourselves ready. When they are right, we’ll protect them in practice. They have to get the reps and the looks somehow. That’ll be the biggest challenge. We’ll be getting Matt [Jones] back on the field in practice so he’ll get the looks he’s going to see in Pittsburgh. This week will be another week off. Hopefully by early next week, Friday or Saturday, after the Tampa game he’ll be ready to get some practice in. That’s the goal. Keith [Marshall] same thing. I don’t think it’s going to be serious, but we’ll get the MRI find out and the other backs that are healthy, they’ll get plenty of work.”

On LB Preston Smith feeling more comfortable:

“So far he’s looked excellent. I felt him today on the sideline. I felt him on the edge. I felt in the backfield disrupting plays. He’s physical at the point of attack. He can drop in coverage which he hasn’t done a whole lot in his life. He’s been effective. We haven’t used him in all the areas we’re going to use him yet. I think there’s more things he can do. He’s a big, physical kid. He is more comfortable and more confident. Another one that is from year one to year two. That’s a big step and we expect big improvement.”

On if he’ll get a jumpstart on cuts:

“We’ll see. I’ll talk to Scot [McCloughan] about it and we’ll make a decision and go from there. It’s never easy. These guys have been competing. A ton of respect for all these guys that are in our locker room right now. Proud of them, the way they’ve come in here and competed from OTAs until now. It’s unfortunate we have to do what we have to do, but it’s something that every team has to go through. It’s not easy that’s for sure.”

On if QB Kirk Cousins will play in the fourth preseason game:

“We don’t play him in the fourth game.”

REDSKINS QB KIRK COUSINS

On bouncing back from a rough start to the game:

"Yeah, you know, it’s going to be a four-quarter game for the 16 that we play this season and we’re going to have slow moments or slow quarters at times. The key is going to be to find a way to circle the wagons and regroup so that by the end of the four quarters we put together a good performance. Certainly in the time we had tonight the body of work overall was pretty productive but there were moments where it wasn’t as good as it needs to be, and we know that. A lot of the stuff I feel will be easily correctable and over the long haul will even itself out.”

On if his interception could be attributed to not playing a lot of reps with WR Rashad Ross:

"I don’t think so. I think if you look at the interception, it was the product of a defensive back making a good play on a tight throw, the ball bounces up in the air and it lands where it lands. I don’t know if that’s a product of anything, other than the fact that it’s the way it happened. You know, there were penalties, there have been penalties in all the preseason games, and we just had a couple of dropped balls on third down, which, like I said, is just not something that’s going to continue because our guys are pretty talented and will end up catching the ball consistently throughout the year.”

On if he was impressed with RB Robert Kelley:

"I was. I thought he did a really good job running the football and also in pass protection, which is a very difficult part of playing the running back position. Just continue to compliment him, I think when you’re a rookie and undrafted and you’re in that position, what you need is belief. You need people around you who believe in you and have confidence in you because he does have the talent and he can run the football well. You just have to continue encouraging him and I think he showed a lot of confidence tonight when he got going and he’s a talented football player.”

On if they are going to try and pass more this season:

"There were a couple run plays that were called when I checked to a pass, if Coach Gruden would’ve had it his way I wouldn’t have done that, I would’ve kept the run on. So there is some of that where the coaches are trying to get the ball run and I’m getting out of it. But, you know, then we had a two-minute drill at the end of the half, which you’re going to throw the ball. If you’re in a four-minute drill and we’re trying to run the clock out, that’s a different story. The situations in the game dictate a little bit, but there is no doubt, and I’ll be the first one to say, if we can keep the pass attempt in the mid-to-high twenties, I may not let up the statistical columns, but we are probably more successful as an offense overall.”

On trading for C Bryan Stork:

“Yeah, we had this happen last year when Kory [Lichtensteiger] got injured and we signed [Brian] de la Puente. We had to get him up to speed quickly and this will be no different. Just try to get a guy in, plug him in quickly and that’s the way this league works. Great to have a guy come from a winning organization, a winning team with a lot of big game experience. I’ll be wanting to pick his brain just as much to try to share what we are doing.”

On if WR DeSean Jackson is in better shape or having a better preseason than in years past:

“I don’t know about better shape or a better preseason than he’s had in the past, but I just think he’s a very talented, elite receiver in this league and I’ve always said we have to find ways to get the ball in his hands and give him chances to catch the football because he tends to prove us right when we throw the ball in his direction. So, we will continue to try to give him opportunities and I believe and have great confidence he will continue to make plays happen.”

REDSKINS CB JOSH NORMAN

On TE Jordan Reed:

“Yeah, there’s a reason our team paid him a nice contract this offseason. It’s hard to find guys who are wired as an athlete the way he is wired to separate, whatever you want to call it. I think it’s the ‘R’ button on the controller in Madden when you play the game, but that ability to shake people or juke people or break down and cross people over on a basketball court, he has that natural ability that not many guys have and it’s a unique skill which makes it tough to cover him.”

On the way the defense played:

"They were physical, up close. They came there, guys got sacks up front. We held down the fort in the back, we played great team defense. Just coming out there during the week, all the noise, just wanted to put it out on the field. Hear my cry, hear everyone else's cry and give it all we had. Even though it was a preseason game, it felt like a game to me."

On WR Sammy Watkins' out and up route on Norman:

"He held the crap out of that. When he came up, Tyrod [Taylor] just held the ball, looking at him and then he just went out on the five-yard out and it was forever and he turned around and I was like, 'Let me hip turn this.' I pulled him but I didn’t badger him or nothing like that. I was just trying to put myself through and he got sacked. That goes hand-to-hand with the big boys up front. If you hold them low enough, shoot, that's what happens. So, it was fortunate."

On looking forward to Monday Night Football:

"That's like a kid in the candy store. I'm enjoying the game, this is my element, this is my sanctuary. This is something you come to do and love it and have a passion for it. I mean, nothing else takes precedence than God, family and ball. This is what it is all about, love of the game, giving my all each and every time I'm out there no matter what, preseason or not. That's what we do. We bring that and everyone else is feeding off of it and we’re just having a good time."

On going up against WR Antonio Brown in Week 1:

"I'm looking forward to going up against him and everyone else that we do face. You know, we’ve got to take one game at a time, and I know he is looking forward to it too. We've been talking back and forth here and there, but he’s a great competitor and an awesome receiver, one of the top ones in the league, so to go up against that man, shoot, I’ve got to get my feet ready."

REDSKINS RB ROBERT KELLEY

On what his expectations were entering the preseason and where he stands now:

“I think my expectations were real simple, to just come in and just progress every week. Try not to get worse, even if it’s one percent better, just get better.”

On his performance tonight and where he stands on the roster:

“I feel real confident about how I played. I feel confident that I gave myself a better opportunity to make the roster.”

On getting into a rhythm:

“I definitely felt like I got into a rhythm, I fully agree. There were some good holes out there with these guys.”

On his preseason performance:

“I think I’ve played decent. I think you’ve seen I’ve steadily progressed. One percent better. I think I got better.”

On taking advantage of extra reps:

“I don’t know if I would call it taking advantage, but every time I go out on the field, I try and do the best I can and make the most of my opportunities.”

REDSKINS TE VERNON DAVIS

On how the offense did tonight:

“I think we did a great job. We went out there, we played with poise, guys stayed in it—that’s the most important thing, to stay in it, keep your mind in the game, despite the adversity you might face. I think we did a great job at that. Offensive line, they were really moving guys at the point of attack. Jordan Reed came in, his first game back, and did a terrific job, helped us move the ball—scored a touchdown. We stayed together.”

On having two-tight-end formations in the offense:

“You know, one thing I promised J-Reed when I first got here was that I’m going to try my best and demand two guys to cover me, and that will allow you to get open. I love the kid, I think he’s awesome. The only thing I want is for him to do well and to help this team advance and win games, and that’s what I came for: an opportunity to win games. That’s first and foremost. Everything else takes care of itself. I’m having fun, I’m enjoying it, and Jordan [Reed] is having fun, Niles [Paul] is having fun, and that’s what it’s all about.”

On being on his hometown team:

“It is, it can be really special. There’s nothing like playing in your hometown. I grew up a Washington Redskins fan, and I remember when I got drafted to the San Francisco 49ers, the only thing I wanted was for the Washington Redskins to come knocking at my door. I wanted them to draft me, but it just didn’t happen. It didn’t go the way I expected it to, but it worked out, it worked out. I’m here now. It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.”

REDSKINS CB BASHAUD BREELAND

On playing alongside CB Josh Norman and pushing each other:

"That's our mentality. He's already considered the No. 1 corner in the league and I am competing to push him for that spot and it is only bettering us. We’ve got a No. 1 guy and a guy who's pushing for it so it's only going to make him better."

On playing defense with a short field:

"That's where I feel the growth is for the defense. Last year, we get down in those positions and we give them seven points, three points, so we’re working at that aspect and the mentality is whether the offense scores or turns it over, we are going to get a stop and if we can do that, we can carry the team a long way."

On getting pumped up by Norman:

"The energy that he brings goes all across the field."

On his goals for the season:

"My goal is to help my team win any way possible and to be the No. 1 corner in the league. That's all I am trying to do."

REDSKINS TE JORDAN REED

On having most of the starting offense on the field tonight:

“It was good to see, definitely. We’ve been working hard out there and things weren’t going our way in the beginning. We started to settle down and started doing things natural.”

On being primed for the season opener:

“We have a couple more weeks of practice. We can turn around things like that. I think we have time to be ready.”

On being on the field with Vernon Davis:

“I’m excited. Vernon is a great player. He’s going to draw a lot of attention. If they try to double either one of us, it’s going to be hard because D-Jax [DeSean Jackson] is going to run over top, Pierre [Garçon] is going to kill them, [Jamison] Crowder, RG [Ryan Grant]. So it’s exciting.”

REDSKINS LB PRESTON SMITH

On his game tonight:

"I've been working on my overall game this offseason to balance out my game to have great pass rush and to also play the run great. Just get out there and be consistent each and every night and each and every week."

On pressure with LB Ryan Kerrigan out:

"I just focus on the stuff that I can control. That's me playing hard and playing physical and just going out there and executing my assignments the best way I can."

On being more comfortable in the defense:

"I'm getting a lot more comfortable in my role. My role is building up from last year and I'm comfortable in the playbook and I'm comfortable in what I’ve got to do and I go out there and just play the best I can whenever my number is called and I just keep my assignment each and every play."

REDSKINS LT TRENT WILLIAMS

On his first preseason action:

“I’m glad I got a chance to do [live reps] before the season kicked off.”

On how RB Robert Kelley looked tonight:

“I thought he looked good, he looked good. He found the creases, he moved forward. Obviously there are some things we can clean up, but I think it was a good outing for him.”

On the slow start offensively but finding a rhythm:

“It’s good to see the offense overcome a slow start, but obviously we would like to start a little faster than that—cut the penalties down a little more. You never want to get off to a slow start.”

REDSKINS DE ZIGGY HOOD

On settling in with the Redskins:

"The more reps I get in practice, the more comfortable I feel and that shows out there on the field. I am surrounded by guys that want the best from you, push each other out there on the practice field."

On winning culture in the locker room:

"They don't take kindly to losing. We don't want to get used to it. Anytime we lose a game, even if it's preseason, everyone is a little down and wished we could have done better so that's why I like it here so far and those guys on the line with me makes you want to go out there and perform."

REDSKINS LB SU’A CRAVENS

On the first team defense’s performance tonight:

“I think we did a really good job. We held them to field goals, didn’t give up any touchdowns, so it’s a step in the right direction.”

On the defense’s effectiveness on third down:

“I think we just wanted to make the quarterback stay in the pocket. If they can get out and scramble and create an extended play—I think a couple third downs we actually let that happen. It’s just a few third downs they picked up. We made them stand in the pocket, coverage was good and we got off the field.”

On being more comfortable after three games:

“I’m ready. I’m ready to play. I came here to play, and whatever they need me to do, I’ll do it.”

On how he feels in the defense:

“I felt good. They were bringing me in on third downs, so there were a lot of passing situations, so just being able to run around and move side to side, being able to follow a receiver out in the flat or a running back coming out of the backfield, it felt good.”

REDSKINS DE RICKY JEAN FRANCOIS

On the stop at the end of the game:

“Oh, we felt great. We go over this every day in practice. We go over situational football. One thing Jay [Gruden] has preached to us is you’ve got to master situational football. That was one situation, I saw it happening, I thought this is the one situation Jay Gruden didn’t want to happen, but it came to us, so this is a situation that we always master and won it.”

On the defensive chemistry:

“It’s getting there. I know a lot of people think it’s there, but it’s not there yet. We still have a long way to go before September 12.”

BILLS HEAD COACH REX RYAN

On the overall performance:

"I was proud of the way our guys fought back. We have to get gas a little bit. We’re playing a lot of our front-line guys who aren’t in there, but our backups competed well I thought. When we got tired in the end a lot of that was self-inflicted penalties that we had that allowed sustained drives. That obviously was a big part of it and playing all the special teams too. Overall I was really happy with the way we came out and played the second half so that was encouraging to me. There were way too many penalties, obviously. Both teams had a million penalties. We just have to keep working and keep grinding. Sometimes it’s going to be tough to tackle a quarterback. We just have to find a way to tackle them.”

On sitting injured and uninjured players:

“I feel pretty good about evaluating this team. I think that’s the No. 1 thing. I want to evaluate this football team. I feel pretty good about the guys that I sat obviously and I don’t think we can afford to get them hurt. That’s as simple as that. I don’t care about the criticism. I was proud about the way we hung in there. We were fighting with them, tooth and nail. That’s a good football team we faced. They’re a physical team and they have a lot of weapons. I like the way our twos, for the most part, played defensively. The conditioning of it was weird as we went on. Playing special teams and defense isn’t easy, but it happens in games and you have to step up. I want to see our guys against really good players. I thought it was smart. Obviously you saw what happened in the second quarter when we got gassed. That’s when we started making little mistakes. Quite honestly we never tackled enough to be a good football team.”

On the third preseason game being a tune-up for the regular season:

“We never game plan them. I’ve never game planned a guy in the third preseason game, a lot of teams did. A lot of them do. I don’t think that’s necessary, I think you still need to evaluate. However, you still want to make sure your guys are ready to go when it counts. I think we are with some of our players. Quite honestly, I wasn’t going to lose a corner today. That wasn’t going to happen. I wasn’t going to lose Preston [Brown] or lose Kyle [Williams]. I feel pretty good about where they are. This game right here you want to win, no question, but the No. 1 thing is you want to evaluate guys. We want to make sure that we’re keeping the right 53, and I think this game will really help in evaluating.”

On LB Lorenzo Alexander’s performance:

“We’re going to play the best 11. If it’s him, which it probably is, then he’s going to be out there. We’re going to play a number of guys. I don’t want to extend them. We know what’s coming down the road, we get it. This guy is doing a tremendous job for us. I don’t want to gas him too much, but at the end of the day we’re going to play our best.”

On injuries to TE Chris Gragg and DB Jonathan Dowling:

“Both of them look like ACL injuries. It’s a real shame. Sometimes, especially with Gragg’s injury, guys should make a tackle there. But I get it; he was frustrated because he just had a 15-yard penalty. It was ridiculous in my opinion. But it is what it is. It looks like [Jonathan] Williams has got a rib injury. It looks like a little bit of a hamstring for [Kevon] Seymour. So those are the ones I know about, four injuries.”

On RB Jonathan Williams’ injury:

“I think the No. 1 job of an official is to protect the players. We don’t have a league without players. I think that’s the No. 1 job of an official. His forward motion looked stopped to me. I’m not sure, but maybe I had a bad angle on it. I just remember I felt that was unnecessary.”

On QB EJ Manuel’s performance:

“I thought he played really well and if we can protect him we’re going to make some business. That’s unfortunate, you’ve got to do a better job in protection, but I thought he played really well and he’s done that. I’ve told you guys I feel so…I feel really good about our quarterback situation, including EJ. I think, you know, every time we put him out there he’s done a great job. You know, we throw the touchdowns in but sure enough it’s OPI [offensive pass interference]. It is, we extended the hand, it’s OPI, so the touchdowns fall back. But, uh, I really like the way he played, I love the way he competes, he’s got a great look in his face. Man, he loves playing. And, guys, you know what, sometimes quarterbacks take a little longer to develop and I think this is the best EJ Manuel that I’ve seen.”

On poor protection for QB Tyrod Taylor:

“We messed up protection-wise once and then I think we got beat another time, but, yeah, I wasn’t real happy with that.”

BILLS QB TYROD TAYLOR

On QB EJ Manuel:

"Yeah, he has done a good job of going out there and competing. He has put a lot of good stuff on film. We are just challenging each other in the QB room to be better every time we step out on the field. He’s done a good job of going out there and competing.”

On Manuel moving around in the pocket:

“He has had that ability, if it is hostile or something. He has always had the ability to move around and create plays. He had to do that some tonight, more than other games. It was good to see him go out there and make some plays with his feet.”

On the growth of Manuel during the past year:

“Both of us have been in the system for two years. We are going into our second year now, so definitely comfortable with the plays that are being called and just the way we have gone out there and executed. Like I said, he has done a good job of just going out there and competing, playing confident, going out there and making plays.”

On building chemistry with WR Sammy Watkins:

“It felt good. We’ve done a lot of work in practice. It is our first time in a game situation but felt good out there. I know he felt good to get out there and run around and see some live action stuff. Just have to continue building and moving forward.”

BILLS QB EJ MANUEL

On Head Coach Rex Ryan’s confidence in him showing at camp this year:

“I have grown so much – my approach, my preparation, enunciating in the huddle and telling my guys what to do and getting guys in the position to make plays and making sure everybody stays calm. I think that’s a big thing the quarterback has to do every time he is in the huddle to keep everybody relaxed and keep everybody calm. You know, even in the last play of the game I was still telling everyone we still have a chance to win this game and, you know, it didn’t go our way which will happen sometimes. But like I said, I am really proud of the guys that were in, a lot of young guys, rookies, third-team guys who were out there fighting and being resilient.”

On being the primary quarterback for this game:

“Yeah, I was excited about the opportunity to get the chance to play and put a lot on tape and I think I did well. I made some really good throws and there was only one throw I wish I had back, but I thought we did a good job. Coach Ro [Greg Roman] did a great job calling the game, especially on third down – we executed really well.”

BILLS WR SAMMY WATKINS

On seeing game speed and competition:

"It felt pretty good. I feel like I needed it, it was something I wanted to do. I knew I needed it, things were moving a little bit faster than I see in practice and it was live and that’s the type of reps that you need when coming off an injury and not playing as much.”

On QB Tyrod Taylor targeting him early:                “Yeah, it’s fun to be targeted and to be out in the open, it’s good. Just to go out and compete against a great team and see where you are and see what you need to do. Like I said, I had fun out there being that we didn’t prepare for those guys, just to go out there and run around and run routes felt good.”

On if playing tonight was enough to get ready for the season:                             “I wish I could have played more of course. I felt like I was I was getting a groove in the second series, kind of feeling myself out, slowing myself down. But I think now I just have to prepare the right way. I have to work hard in practice and do extra things to get on the same page as Tyrod [Taylor] and get confidence in myself being able to play the whole game.”

On practicing route running with Wide Receivers Coach Sanjay Lal:

“I think I’m fine. I don’t think we need to use the injury thing. I think I’m healed and ready to go. I’m just really ready to kick the season off and get started. Sanjay did a great job and everything. My route running is fine. My foot is fine. Now I just have to get prepared.”

On getting more route running practice with QB Tyrod Taylor between now and the regular season:

“Definitely. Things like that I need to do with Tyrod [Taylor]. Not to say were not on the same page but to get more reps for myself full-speed and for him to have the right timing full-speed is definitely a good thing.”

On if sitting some starters was the right thing to do this game:

“It’s the coach’s call. I think the guys that sat they played the first two games or maybe the first two quarters. It’s more so for the guys like myself that didn’t play the first two games. We need to go out there and get hit a couple of times and compete. I think he made a great call.”

On if he was impatient to get on the field this week:

“I wasn’t impatient. Of course, I was at first but I just let it go and prayed about it. And just go out there and have fun and play. I’m healed. I was very impatient with the line with competing-wise because in the game it’s live bullets. So I’m past that.”

On the hit that injured TE Chris Gragg:

“I’m not going to get into details. He’s playing football at the end of the day. It was clean tackle but do people do that in the preseason? I don’t know. Last year he did the same thing to [WR] Robert Woods. Same type of hit. I understand he’s a cornerback that’s playing safety now and that’s his way of hitting. You just have to play smart.”

BILLS LB LORENZO ALEXANDER

On making a good case to be included on defense:

"That is what [Head Coach Rex Ryan] said. When I first came, obviously I wanted to be a starter on special teams, lead there with [S Colt Anderson]. Then have packages, maybe play 15-20 plays and rotate opposite of [LB] Jerry [Hughes] throughout the game and help that linebacker corps create some pass rushes and plays to give us some more depth there. I am definitely looking towards that and obviously throughout the season your role can change based on injuries, guys suspended or whatever the situation may be. So I always have to be ready to play outside, inside and that has been my niche throughout my whole career in the NFL.”

On the sack that was reversed due to a penalty:

“It is part of the game. Guys, they are human, the referees, they’re going to make calls. They have the preseason as well. They will go back and look at the film and they will determine whether or not that was a good call or not. I am never going to be mad at them, it happened so quick. Obviously, I don’t want them to call that. I want to get my shine on and dance and do all that. But you have to go onto the next snap, continue to play and make some plays. On that same series, we were able to stop them so it didn’t really hurt us.”

BILLS G RICHIE INCOGNITO

On the first offense being on the field together:

"It felt good to get back out there with the guys, get some rhythm, and get out there and pop some people around a bit.”

On their focus for Week 1:

“As starters, our focus is to get to the opening game and that’s Baltimore and get ready for the regular season. We’ve got two weeks now to work on our conditioning and get in the best shape as possible to play the season.”

BILLS DT CORBIN BRYANT

On tonight’s defense in comparison to other preseason games:                          “It was good. We got a good chance to run at it with their ones, so I felt like it was good. I felt like we were good on our gaps and able to develop some pass rush in there and there were some times when we hit the quarterback a little too low so we have to work on that. But other than that I thought we were pretty solid."

On playing with new teammates:

“I have full trust with anybody that we put out there. We put in a lot of work this training camp and everybody out there was on the same page. We all study the plays together, we all communicate together, so we all have to be on one cylinder out there.”

On Redskins QB Kirk Cousins:

“You know, he is a good player and was able to get in a rhythm. It comes down to the things that we didn’t do. We didn’t execute some coverages, we didn’t get there as a pass rush, but we missed some tackles. So when you do things like that you are able to get on, but those things are all fixable.”

Well Sammy, perhaps flags around the waist would be more to your liking? 3rd preseason game and if your not expecting full speed & hitting your not treating the game with the respect it deserves. DHall's been the NFL 13 years - shame on you for not knowing he doesn't play touch football. Legal hit; don't like it; don't play or lobby to get the rule changed... No more tackling below the waist. No more tackling above the waist - problem solved.

I've heard some on the Bills side and none are calling it a cheap shot, more like they wished it hadn't happened. I get it as they've been devastated with injuries but whining about being tackled within the rules on offense I don't get. Let's see - Hall 5' 10", Gragg 6'3" and he's got like 50 pounds on DeAngelo. So, exactly what is the nice way he should tackle him?

On trading for C Bryan Stork:
“Yeah, we had this happen last year when Kory [Lichtensteiger] got injured and we signed [Brian] de la Puente. We had to get him up to speed quickly and this will be no different...

And there were occasions where I thought one would see de la Puente on the field (like snaps by JL over the head of the QB) last season and never did. Could be a lot of reasons, like I just flat out missed him, but thought he was worth a trial on the field all things considered. Maybe he didn't get it fast enough. If Stork does not come up to speed quickly might Jay cut him before the final 53 if it appears that it may take awhile before he can take the field and just go with who he's already got?

I don't necessarily believe so just playing Devils Advocate. If it would burn a roster spot for awhile it wouldn't surprise me. Quite unlike Jay to get this animated (at least publicly) about how fast a player needs to get on the field. Other than rookies or guys on the bubble.

I wonder if we should complaining about all the contact that caused our injuries? I mean since Sammy wants to play touch football we should complain too.

It's ironic that some in the Bills organization are complaining about the hard hitting the Redskins gave them, when Colts owner Jim Irsay complained about the hitting in the game his Colts had against the Bills in the first week of the preseason.

Apparently, the Bills want to hit, but not be hit. :)

Too bad for them.
