goldenster95
We apparently signed this guy today. He's supposedly pretty fast -- some say a burner -- and can return kicks. He got cut by the Giants last year. Here's some info on him. Anyone else have anything to add? Pat Wood**** - Syracuse WR 5'10" - 170 lbs. Born: April 27, 1977 Pat Wood**** is a big play receiver. He led Syracuse University with 29 catches for 453-yards last season. During his outstanding career, Pat finished tied for ninth on Syracuse's All-Time list with a 16.9 yards/catch average. His best performance occurred against BYU in 2000 with 2 catches for 144-yards and 2 TDs. In his career, Pat had 62 receptions for 1,047-yards and 7 TDs. There is speculation that the NFL is taking a close look at Pat because of his excellent return skills. At Syracuse he also returned 27 kickoffs for 559-yards. Pat is a former Ron Dias Canada All-Star. A great student, Pat was named to the Big East Academic All-Star each year in university. He earned the 1999 Bill Maxwell Award as Syracuse's most improved offensive player in spring practice. The Kanata native attended Holy Trinity H.S. and earned a degree in marketing with a minor in economics while at Syracuse.
Atlanta Skins Fan
NFL.com has him entering the league in 2001, and never playing in a single game. They also list him at 5'9", 166 lbs. Great: even Wuerffel could steal his lunch money. :shootinth
Jimbo
As I recall, the knocks against him were not getting cleanly off the line and questionable hands. He's a guy that could spread the field but I think he needs a season in Europe.
goldenster95
Maybe he's here to return kicks. If so, what happens to Skaggs? In any case, I've not seen any articles saying he's signed, hence the use of the word "apparently."
inmate running the asylum
Well his 20.7 kickoff return average is nothing special. However, his signing will keep Tom Giants Fan up sleepless for many a night this offseason.
redman
If he's a legit PR/KR, then I really don't care how well he gets off the line as a #5 or #6 WR.

That is for sure. We really do need a weapon at that position. Seems like it has been so long...

The Invisible Poster
Hopefully the same kind of place that the Saints located Michael Lewis. I hope so. Michael Lewis is great. Wasn't he driving a beer truck before the Saints picked him up.
inmate running the asylum
Here is some more research on Pat Wood****, who played for Montreal of the CFL last year. He caught 35 passes for 838 yds and 5 Tds. He is described as having "electrifying speed" and had an impressive average per catch of 23.9, with Td receptions of 95, 88 and 63 yards! He was also named the Outstanding Canadian in the Grey Cup [their Super Bowl], when he caught a Td pass for a record setting 99 yards! He is also a PR and KR. What the hey, he didn't cost us any draft picks and he doesn't eat much. http://www.canada.com/montreal/sports/story.asp?id=F8014D72-FACA-42A8-9631-30532D308B0E http://www.cfl.ca/CFLStats02/montreal_teamstats2.pdf
SkinsNorth
I saw him play quite a bit this yr, he was one of the top WRs in the CFL & was named top Canadian in the Grey Cup. I think he'll struggle in the NFL, where the field is smaller & the DB's have just as much if not more speed.
Luca Brasi
At this point, if we can sign some speed guys for pennies, I'm all for it. We're bound to find a diamond in the rough somewhere.
ThatGuy
Looking at those stats, he didn't return punts or kicks for them. But I am suprised no one noticed their starting RB, Laurence Phillips. In fact the Grey Cup this year featured two 1st round NFL flame out, Phillips vs John Avery.
NavyDave
Well he has speed apparently and I can careless that he isnt from a big school as long as he is a threat to take it to the house.0 As for his name atleast its not Woody Long and he isnt dating a girl named Anita or Ivana

bulldog
unfortunately the Skins haven't been very good at signing players from exotic locales such as beer delivery routes to come in and play for them if they are not rated by PFW as one of the top 100 college prospects we don't get them this team is just the opposite of the Gibbs teams. Then you had a few high picks that produced but most of the guys were undrafted free agents and middle to low round picks. Now, you have a top heavy team with blue chippers taken in rounds 1 and 2 of the draft, some high priced free agents, and then a dropoff into the abyss when considering the last say 15-20 spots on the team. OrangeSkin
After watching Wood**** for the duration of his college career, I wasn't too excited about his pro prospects. Hopefully he'll be a diamond in the rough, but he looked like a midget going against the Rutgers secondary.
Buddha
Has anyone seen this "signing" reported on any of the typical media outlets-- WP, WT, ESPN??? He's not even listed over at NFLPA.org and they usually post within a day or two of the signing.
