I said that b/c i want him to be on the team...not a restricted free agent.

SC, Those RFAs are players to whom we have tendered offers, so we have the right to match any contract offers they get. Besides, I'm kinda doubtful he'll get any offers.

They ain't gonna match it according to Gibbs. :(

Thanks for this Todd...I appreciate it :)

Do we have the parameters of Patten's contract?

I like both our signings of Rabach and Patten....good job FO!

Losing Pierce stings a bit but I think he was more a product of the system....:2cents:

I think it is important to keep Smoot....

Actually, Nunyo just posted them in the WP article that runs tomorrow. Of course, Nunyo isn't always right... I updated the first post, its 5 years, 13 mill, 3.5 million dollar SB.

He doesn't HAVE to sign it.

I am NOT saying he won't.

A tender offer to RFAs allows other teams to look at them, make an offer if they so choose, and then the Redskins can match it or not. IF a RFA does get an offer from another team, then a trade can be made and the Skins get a draft pick for that player. Rock was a 7th round pick........and he has performed for us much better than MOST 7th rounders.

Excerpt from Peter King - Monday Morning QB on SI.com:

"Liked: The Giants wrangled Antonio Pierce from Washington. Not only did the Giants get just what they needed -- a playmaking, young middle linebacker to key Tim Lewis' 4-3 defense -- but they diminished the star power of the best defense in the NFC East. Sometimes it's not who you sign, it's who you sign the player away from. Gregg Williams' outstanding Washington defense won't collapse without its centerpiece, but the 'Skins likely won't be able to find a sideline-to-sideline playmaker who, quietly, had a season nearly the equal of James Farrior or Donnie Edwards last year."

We were all talking about how we still needed to add to our defense, even as impressive as it was last year. So, how do we let our conference rival take away one of our best players? That's retarded...:2cents:

Also...

"Didn't like: Washington, even with a smart guy like Joe Gibbs running the show, still seems like a team lurching from one cap mess to the next. Other than Peyton Manning, no NFL player will make as much cash in 2004. Two years ago, Laveranues Coles was the cat's meow. Now he's just another $9.3 million cap mess to clean up. I noticed the Redskins seemed to be congratulating themselves on having Santana Moss and David Patten starting at receiver in 2005. Why? Moss was a perennial disappointment with the Jets; how will 'Skins fans react the first time he runs out of bounds away from contact instead of trying to make four more yards? Patten was the fourth receiver on a Patriots' team with no receiving star. Lord help Patrick Ramsey."

Todd,

Here is an update for you.

1) You should date your posts to let people know how recent it has been updated ;) ......... such as "Last Updated........." etc. Otherwise, the old geezers like Bulldog and WCO (not west coast offense -- but west coast omellete) get confused.

2) It would also be more informative IMHO if you also showed an annual breakdown of the player's yearly salary. I'll show you what I keep on my harddrive. This info is available from NFLPA.org

You are never going to be able to keep perfect records on these contracts, because a lot of the information is not published or changes, such as roster bonuses, etc.

Lemar Marshall - 3 yrs @ $ 2 Mil + escalators - $ 400k? SB

[455k - .577k - 600k] = only equals $ 1.632M

John Simon - 1 yr @ $ 380k

[380k]

Chris Samuels - 7 yrs @ $ 46.5 million - $ 15.75 SB - $ 19 Mil is guaranteed

[800k - 1.0 - 2.45 - 4.5 - 5.0 - 6.5 - 7.5] = only $ 43.75

About $ 3M in roster bonuses unaccounted for in total?

Ethan Albright - 1 yrs @ $790k - $ 25k SB

[765k] = only counts $ 480k against the cap

Casey Rabach - 6 yrs @ $13.75 Mil ? - $ 2.5 SB + $ 2.0 RB guaranteed - 6th year voidable - really 5 yrs @ $ 13.7

[540k - 545 - 2.75 - 2.75 - 2.75 - 3.115] = only $ 12.450

David Patten - 5 yrs @ $ 13.75 million - $ 3.5 SB

[665k - 1.085 - 1.250 - 1.5 - 2.0] = only $ 6.5M RB $3.75?

Santana Moss - 1 year remaining on Jet contract

[448k]

Mike Sellers - 3 yrs @ $ 1.955 Mil - $ 200k SB

[540k - 545 - 670]

Cedric Killings - 1 yr. @ $ 540k

[540k ]

RFA's like Cartwright, Evans, Hasselbeck, Ron Warner, and Andre Lott were tendered $ 656,000 which counts against the cap, although they have not signed these contracts. Other teams have until April 15th to make them an offer. After that -- without getting -- their rights basically are retained by the Redskins.

ERFA Chris Clemons was only tendered $ 380,000. ERFA Jeff Chandler.... I'm not positive about, but I think he is only entitled to a tender of $ 305,000 based on accrued seasons.
