After the Bowl Championship Series delivered yet another championship game marred by controversy, the Associated Press has reportedly pulled its college football poll from the formula used to set up the title game.

According to the Boston Globe, Kevin Weiberg, the commissioner of the Big 12 and coordinator of the BCS, said he has received a letter from the AP expressing its concern over the selection process and its role in it.

The report said the move would take place starting next season.

The AP poll is one of three components utilized by the BCS to select the eight teams for the four major bowls (Orange, Rose, Sugar and Fiesta), the others being the ESPN/USA Today poll and several computer rankings.

Controversy has dogged the BCS almost since its inception, but has become more heightened in recent years. In 2003, USC was the No. 1 team in both the AP and ESPN/USA Today polls, but was shut out of the national title game. Ultimately, the Trojans would finish No. 1 in the final AP poll.

This year, California was bounced from the BCS picture in the final week of the season when some voters moved Texas ahead of Cal in their final ballot even though the Longhorns' season was done and the Bears won by double digits at Southern Mississippi.
