President Bush continues to lead rival Sen. John F. Kerry among likely voters despite surging enthusiasm for Kerry among Democrats and new doubts about whether the president has a clear plan to deal with terrorism and the situation in Iraq, according to the Washington Post tracking poll.

As opposed to asking the rest of the world's permission to defend ourself like Kerry wants?

There's a difference between asking for permission and defying the vast majority of the world's opinion and common sense along with it.

Don't misquote Kerry. He didn't say we need permission; he just knows that the diplomatic mess we're in because of our go-in-alone, gunslinger attitude isn't good for anyone, especially this country.

How exactly did we "go it alone"?

There are 33 nations, Great Britain among them, helping us out in the war in Iraq

Kerry's problem is that he, like too many liberals, want us to get countries like France, who could care less if we get attacked in another 9/11 style attack, and the United Nations, who have many members who hate the US not because of the war on terror but because they are jealous of our standard of living

Yeah, those are the people I want on my side

By "vast majority"... do you mean the French, Germans, and the Russians? If you don't understand EXACTLY WHY these countries objected to using military force in Iraq.. please lift up rock and climb back underneath.

I can't wait to hear Kerry expound on this "global test" he referred to during the first debate. If the French say it's ok.... and the Germans... that they don't have any monetary stakes that would be threatened by using military force... than it must past the "global test".

Eff Kerry.... flip flopping bleeding heart liberal communist!!! <---- and that's censored!!!!

It's not about asking permission, it's about not being horribly wrong.

When you go before the UN and claim there are WMD's to be found, you better find some WMD's.

Many countries were skeptical about the first Gulf War or didn't like what we did in Kosovo, but after those jobs were done, there wasn't much for them to b!tch about. The bottom line is that if we had found WMD's, our coalition would include many many more countries right now. Bush gave them all an incredibly easy excuse to stay on the sidelines.

Of course any President will do whatever is necessary to defend the nation, but that does not mean we have to blow our credibility with the rest of the world.

Eloquent words from an equally eloquent man.

And being an eloquent speaker automatically means they must be more qualified right. There are plenty of good speakers who I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw em and/or are dumb as bricks. Just as there are plenty of people who have trouble speaking in public who are good and/or intelligent people who just may not be comfortable in that atmosphere. But it's nice to know you decide your vote for president the same way the judges decide miss america.
