Sknzfan
Bailey, Walls hit with $5,000 fines By Bill Williamson Denver Post Staff Writer Champ Bailey and Lenny Walls weren't dancing Thursday after they opened their mail. The cornerbacks were fined $5,000 each by the NFL for celebrating Bailey's interception in the Broncos' 34-24 victory over Kansas City. Along with cornerback Kelly Herndon, Bailey and Walls did a hand-slap routine on the field after the play. They were penalized 15 yards for taunting. Bailey said he will appeal the decision, and Walls said he is likely to do the same if Bailey appeals. Bailey wasn't happy with his first such fine. "They don't want you to show any emotion in this high-intensity game, which I find so funny," Bailey said. "I don't get it at all." Middle linebacker Al Wilson said he thought his teammates shouldn't have been fined because it was a impromptu, short celebration. "Sometimes I think they want us to wear nun uniforms and run around," Wilson said. "This is an emotional game. The guys were just having fun." I don't Remember Champ having that Kind of EMOTION here ?

Dead Money
Good for him - all the Roland talk is getting old - I thought those guys in the booth were going to go down at halftime and blow him for crying out loud.... IMO he will intercept more passes than ever this year because he is practicing on both sides of the ball. He wouldn't get any time at receiver unless he could demonstrate good hands - And that's something we all know he really hasn't showed us over the years... He had many a missed opportunity in that department.
Om
The "who, me?" act NFL players routinely go into on this kind of stuff is so tired. The rules about on-field celebrations like that are very clear, and very well established. And for them to suggest that the one Champ & Co. did was pure boys-will-be-boys enjoyment of the moment is disingenious at best. If looked scripted and practiced. They knew exactly what they were doing ... and in doing so put their own momentary glory ahead of the best interests of their team. If the rules say they get fined for that, so be it. Take it like a man and shut up already.
Mr. S
i still think the 'no celebration' rules are stupid. People like to have fun. Im surprised they arent going after the Lambeau Leap, or the Browns replica of it on sunday. You're gonna be happy for getting an int or td, let them show it. Some things are over the top obviously, but humorous none the less.

I agree to a point that celebrations should be left alone, but at the same time, when you've got lineman running 60 yds to the endzone to do a TD celebration with the rest of the team, it gets a bit out of control. There has to be limits. I think that is one that should be limited. It not only takes up too much time, it insights the opposing teams to violence. I know that would piss me off & I would be looking for someone to hurt after that.
Thiebear
The Lambeau leap doesnt count cause its off the field right? Slamming you head into a cement wall is covered also...

fuji869
Originally posted by Sknzfan Bailey, Walls hit with $5,000 fines It would be like us being fined 5 Cents not even a slap on the wrist. It is funny the NFL will crack down on celebrations then slowly they will back of until they get out of hand again only to crack down on them again. :insane: Wouldn't we love to see old Deion get fined for high stepping and his little TD Dance?!?!?!?!?!?! wwninja420
Yes rules are rules ,but I agree with him on the fact that it is a high energy game, and you want to celebrate when you do something. I think as long as you dont purposely humiliate anyone it should be ok. What goes around comes around so if a Qb gets picked it;s lke to bad lets watch this db dance. A lil while later he throws a TD over that same db, and now it's his turn to celebrate.
BurgundyBomber
Thanks for the perspective, fuji869. Champ probably makes $5K every three minutes he's on the football field. BIg deal.

Agreed. I think celebrations should be allowed, so long as it's limited to a short time frame, like five seconds. From what I could tell, the celebration in Denver after the INT lasted all of four seconds. It wasn't taunting, because none of the KS players were around. cphil006
Yea, he's happy, he's all giddy...good for him...I understand why he left. WIth all the coaching changes and everything. No stabilty. That is why Trent Green left. Redskins were in the process of getting a new owner. Looks like we have some stability now...
illone
$68 mil deal and he's whining about 5K? Sheesh, these football players are really getting rediculous these days. The thing is, this isn't "their" league. He signed the contract that clearly states, no on field celebration with team mates. It's right in his player's manual. If he can't follow a simple rule like that, then he deserves a much larger fine than only 5K. Smack him with a 100K fine, then maybe he'll learn his lesson.
