Marty to be Fired?

That whole "is likely" stuff means that they're speculating. That's the kind of bad and irresponsible reporting that Art has rightfully been criticizing in other threads. Nevertheless, it could happen, but the point is that it's pure speculation.

I posted in another thread that it was reported that there would be a meeting tonight between Marty and Snyder to discuss his future. We'll see what that yields.

I've been watching the NFL for some few years now and I have rarely seen a situation where a coach is rumored to be in trouble and then is able to pull a rabbit out of the hat and stick around.

If Snyder intended to retain Schottenheimer you would figure he would have come out and squashed the Spurrier rumors with a laugh or a dismissive gesture at some point since the mill began its operation on Friday.

Instead there has been an uneasy PUBLIC silence all of a sudden from the Redskins executive suite.

We have seen umpteenth articles citing 'team sources'.

That is the proverbial red flag for 'owner wants to make a point but doesn't want to go on record yet'...........

and that means that Marty won't be back barring some minor miracle.

I'm not sure Marty's fate has been decided.

Snyder's behavior has been dispicable, for sure. But I doubt he would fire Marty unless he has a deal with Spurrier. I'm not convinced anything's been decided, yet. Snyder's preference is painfully clear, however.

Like I've said, it think the whole thing is dispicable and embarrassing.

As long as we're dealing with rumors and innuendo, I thought you might find this from a fantasy football message board interesting. The poster there is a Bears fan, who has no particular feelings for or against our team that I know of.

I agree Guru. ANY move to remove Marty at this point is going to make the whole organization look like a joke and bringing in Wolf and Spurrier isn’t going to change that.

Like a lot of you I have spent more time than I want to talk about defending Snyder and his moves since he took over control of this team. I’m not going to be able to do that this time.

What happens when the new “wonder coach” goes 8-8 next year? Fire him and bring in someone else? I’ll have a hard time being a fan of a team like that. I don’t say that lightly.

BTW, Am I the only person here who doesn’t like Spurrier? I hated him when he was at Florida and I fell the same way now. Sorry......

I know nothing has happened yet but I gotta shake my head at all of this.

hail2skins: It sounds like Maske is leaning toward Marty being gone too. He was the one that wrote the initial article on the pursuit of Spurrier.

bulldog: I totally agree. The meeting tonight is most likely to fire Marty, which isn't smart if they don't have another coach in line.(Spurrier?) It could possibly be to talk about a GM, but unlikely.

And did anybody catch Redskins report last night? As far as I know, that show is taped on Thursday, and Sonny mentioned if you're going to fire Marty, you should have another coach lined up, such as Steve Spurrier. George Michael rolled his eyes, and Sonny chuckled. Talk about a hint.

Guys, I'm tellin' ya it's already a done deal. My question is, where does it stop? Say we get Spurrier, and over the next two years he's .500 each year. Then, say Gibbs decides he wants to make a comeback. What do we do, fire Spurrier? We'll be no better than Notre Dame, with a new coach every week.
