Hall to miss time with hip injuryHall to miss time with hip injury

August 18, 2004

Head Coach Jim Mora said after Tuesday's practice that rookie starting cornerback DeAngelo Hall could potentially miss 6 to10 weeks with a slightly fractured hip he suffered during the August 28 game against the Bengals. But Mora seemed optimistic that Hall could be back in action more quickly than that.

"We’re optimistic that he’s going to be back sooner rather than later, but obviously that’s just going to depend on how he heals," Mora said after the Tuesday practice session.

"It’s called posterior lip acetabular fracture," Mora said. "It’s a little fracture in his hip...we’ve had an MRI, a CT scan, X-rays, and we sent him to a hip specialist out of town."

"But by no means is it season-ending or anything like that," Mora continued. "We’ll get him back eventually, and we’ll adjust as we go. We’re lucky to have guys like Allen Rossum and Aaron Beasley and Kevin Mathis and Tod McBride, who’s been back out here the last two days. There’s nothing you can do about injuries. You’ve just got to keep going."

I have read a couple of places that Will Smith in New Orleans is doing real well but have not seen it myself so don't know. And of course someone usually comes out of no where to be considered...

I don't think Taylor has DROY locked like everyone thinks he does. All some rook like Udeze, Babin or Smith has to do is grab 10-12 sacks and they'll win it. Look at Roy Williams in 2002. 5 INTs, 2 TDs(Against you), a sack, and Peppers got it. Then last year, Newman should have gotten it, and a change of pace rusher in Suggs grabbed 12 sacks and got it.

12 sacks in 12 games and an INT is nothing to sneeze at. Peppers deserved that. Roy had a great year too for a rookie. I don't want to discredit him, but you can't deny Peppers' impact. I think it's easier for a rookie safety to come in the league and get Roy Williams type numbers than it is to get Peppers type numbers for a rookie DE. I guess it's debatable, but that's how I see it.

That being said, if someone like Udeze, or Tommie Harris, has a good year, it will take a spectacular season from Taylor to win it. I still think the odds are in Taylor's favor, though. :D

Edit to keep on topic: I feel bad for Hall, I thought I heard he was supposed to start the season. Injuries blow.

Slightly fractured? Isn't that like being a little bit pregnant? I know Mora's trying to downplay it, but a hip fracture is a serious injury.

Actually, I don't believe it is as serious as you think. He suffered a fracture to a stationary bone (the back part of the socket that the head of the femur sits in). This is nothing like the hip injury that Bo Jackson suffered. It will not require surgery.
