BlitzFiftySix
Did something happen with McCants today? Somebody sign him to an offer sheet? My wife and I were at dinner and I saw his name across the ticker on the bottom of the tv.
112row2
You may have seen Rashad McCants name from Carolina since they played today. Nothing seems to be out there on the wire.

JWB
It was probably Rashad considering that was a big game for him and the Tar heels. No need to worry folks! (Not yet at least...)

BlitzFiftySix
Thanks, I hope it was Rashad McCants. I almost choked on my food when I saw the name on the ticker. Of course my wife had us seated as far away from the TV as possible.

TODD
Again, McCants wouldn't be a huge loss with our current depth at receiver, especially with Taylor Jacobs. And another draft pick would be huge. He's going to want to be paid as a second wideout as opposed to a slot receiver. It is uncertain he'd be able to play up to those standards going up against bigger, more physical starting receivers as opposed to the nickelback. If he wants to be paid as a third guy, though, we should keep him for his goal line performance.
wwninja420
Man I dont want McCants to go anywhere. Hopefully we will kepp him around.
thinker
It doesn't matter what he wants to be paid. We have a qualifying offer on the table to him as a rfa. If someone makes a better offer to him, we will be able to match or let him go and get a 5th rounder for him. If someone doesn't make a killer offer to him that we can't match - he will end up signing the contract we offered him. Right now we're in the driver's seat. Obviously no one is so enamoured with him that they've made a "crazy" offer to him. We've said we'll match any offer. We currently have the cap room to do so, and could free up plenty more room by cutting guys like trung or moore or restructuring samuels. I just don't see some one making a crazy offer for a guy that caught 27 passes last year as a #3 or #4 receiver who has good size and hands but not great speed, and not really a refined, precise route runner. I love the guy and want to keep him, he COULD be really good soon. But in the rfa market we've seen you have to overpay to get a guy. McCants, IMHO hasn't shown enough to make someone really want to overpay for him. Our efforts with our own rfas shows the increasing responsibility and moderation of our FO -- we made minimum qualifying offers to McCants, Bryan Johnson, and Iffy. If they elicit a good offer then we can match. If not then we aren't overpaying when we don't have to. It's a reasonable risk to take because I just don't see someone saying I'm going to build my team around one of these guys and offer them something we wouldn't easily match. These are all valuable second tier type players, I suspect we'll easily keep them all.
fuji869
I hope he is still a Redskin, I like the guy he did well last season plus he is a local guy too!

Now, in about 2 hours, we get to see if we can make it two straight against Duke.
