bubba9497
ESPN.com news services The Oakland Raiders interviewed Dallas Cowboys assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach Sean Payton for a second time Monday in their search for a new head coach. Raiders spokesman Artie Gigantino confirmed the interview when contacted late Monday. Payton arrived Sunday night to meet with Raiders owner Al Davis, who's looking for a coach to replace Bill Callahan, fired after a 4-12 season. Payton, who interviewed Jan. 11-12 and is one of four candidates to speak face-to-face with Davis, is the only person to come back for a second interview. Cowboys offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon, 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Knappas and Dennis Green -- who took the Arizona Cardinals job -- are among others who have interviewed for the job. Young offensive coaches previously hired by Davis include Callahan, Jon Gruden, Mike White and Mike Shanahan. Payton, 40, worked with Gruden and Callahan during the 1997 and 1998 seasons as the Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach. He joined the Cowboys in 2003 after four years with the New York Giants, including the final three as offensive coordinator. Under Payton the Giants had one of the NFL's most productive offenses, while quarterback Kerry Collins posted franchise-record passing numbers. Cowboys quarterback Quincy Carter showed improvement this season, his third in the NFL, finishing with a 71.4 rating, 3,302 yards passing and 17 touchdowns. Kansas City offensive coordinator Al Saunders, who also interviewed for the job, decided to stay with the Chiefs. Tennessee offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger could also be a candidate, according to the Dallas Morning News. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1713050
Die Hard
How would you like to be a Raiders fan right about now? Yuch. The only saving grace for them would be to hire a Weis or Crennel.
Duke
I can't believe Al Davis is still unable to settle up the HC situation. Is this going to be the beginning of miserable era in Oakland?
Jay Master Jay
My Raider buddies wont talk to me because they know Davis is messing things up again. I told them to bring back Art Shell but Davis wants a puppet who hasn't been a HC before. Every time he hires a coach it's his first HC job in the NFL. SPare
And Snyder is an interfering owner...
Chrisbob74
Why doesn't Davis just coach the team himself? I guess he doesn't want to do all the onkey work, just get to game day then signal the plays he wants to run down to his "coach"!!
fish
Did you guys hear the story about Mularkey? He decided that he didn't even want to interview for the job and cancelled a previously set-up interview. The Rayduhs went ape-shi! and barraged his cell phone with rude, antagonistic phone calls, basically heckling him! Incredible.

Heavy Jumbo
Originally posted by SPare And Snyder is an interfering owner... We'll see how Snyder fares now. Awesome
Interesting. That would surely detract from what Parcells is trying to accomplish in Dallas.
GrapeApe
One of my friends is a big Raiders fan. He is very depressed about the state of the Raiders. Apparently they are having money issues as well. He said even though they may want to sign Woodson, they may not have the cash to pay him.
