well, if we are able to keep getting these solid players to sign 3 year deals for less than $1 million in bonus money, then yes, I think we do have enough left to acquire Harris

This is oh-so-good. Who else is signing all of these starters to what amount to cheapo contracts? We put up big cash for ONE player, and even that contract costs us little up front, and wont hurt us too bad on the backend, as the signing bonus wasnt exorbitant. We are getting oh so close to an optimum offseason, boys. Figure out what the hell we're doing at the QB spot, draft young-uns on both sides of the line, and figure out what we're doing with Smith/Coleman in terms of cutting/restructuring contracts. And if we do that, do we go make our run for Sammy Adams.... all in all, I'm starting to feel pretty good about this, especially since we're not mortgaging our cap future and should be in good shape next offseason to pick up a missing puzzle piece, or even just extend champ and jansen.

These 3 year deals that we are signing right now are very cost efficient with the low signing bonuses and are cap friendly throughout the contract. No more signing of 5 year deals where you know the player will be released after the 2nd year and a huge cap hit will follow due to an enormous signing bonus. Joe Mendes is the man!!!

Joey, you have it right my friend. Joe Mendes is a great front office leader. Anyone questioning his return simply failed to understand the obvious. Joe Mendes knows what he's doing and he knows it in personnel as well as contracts. This has been a promising offseason. Of course, Marty did many of the same things in free agency a year ago, in bringing in players on the cheap. The difference is we are actually getting players at what can be considered the mid-range level in price while last year we just got minimum wage folks.

We're not pilfering the bottom of the minimums here so we are getting some quality guys who are worried about all the money drying up and slowly we'll start getting the same quality in guys who now will start wondering if we have the potential to win a lot of games here.

Again, as long as we have what we have at QB, that is a leap of faith and we all know it, but, so far that faith has metted out a fine offseason. Snyder deserves great credit for doing what he's been able to do.

last year the team seemed not to have any clear direction in terms of the moves made. it was all haphazard and seemingly just reacting from one crisis to the next, or from one injury to the next.

this year there is planning. after the last couple of years of going 8-8 with much better than that talent, maybe this year at least we will actually OVERACHIEVE for a change and be a nice success story.

sure would be nice after all the negative press.

Marty's last-year pruning made this year's harvest possible. I think Danny-dissers can shut the fork up now. He's not perfect, but he learns from the past & still has a hunger to win. What more could you ask from an owner?

whatever pruning was necessary (and there was some) this team was capable of beating out the Bucs for the last playoff spot in the NFC and with a sane choice of and handling of the quarterback situation this team WOULD have made the postseason.

you can see with all the interest in our free agents in the offseason and the signing bonuses they received, that the perception and rightly so around the league was that the Redskins had talent on the roster.

I don't think anyone was denying that. It was a matter of how that talent was deployed and in the case of the QB and WR positions how so much of the year was wasted on players that didn't fit or on ignoring others that could have made a tangible contribution if given the chance.

Notice that Kent Graham turned down a 1 year deal to start down in Texas while David Carr is being groomed?

Banks has drawn no interest at all, not even from the 49ers and Bill Walsh who swore he was such a talent.

what is especially frustrating is Marty didn't even give Graham a shot when it had become apparent that Banks was stagnant and ineffective and the team was holding on for dear life, depending on the defense to win football games.

It's all about ego Bulldog and Marty had/has buckets full.

I'm just hoping that SS isn't making the same mistake w/ Wurffell (sp?).

I'm standing by with fingers crossed and eyes wide open.

I don't think Steve operates that way, fish.

He's all about having the best players ON the field, not spectating. (Although he will sit people if he thinks that's necessary (e.g. Grossman missing curfew).)

He's had incredible success in the past with Danny at the helm and is willing to let him compete for a shot here.

Nothing more to it than that.

Well, Harris is now officialy a Lion, so that is out the window. But nonetheless, we've done quite nicely in terms of free agents. Mendes' former capologist title is showing through in his prudent yet effective pickups.

I think this signing solidifies the fact that we're not going to draft a guard in the first round. It's definitely looking like D-line as of now. Depending on what we have in mind for Marco and/or Bruce, Kalimba Edwards would be a nice pickup. If Henderson falls, he'd be too hard to pass up.

The only question remaining is QB. Hopefully We'll be able to pickup Davey or Ramsey with our second rounder. Or perhaps Steve is so confident in Sage we won't draft a QB at all. If Harrington falls, there's no doubt in my mind we'll take him.

Time will tell.
