Art
Gibbs returns as figurehead. by Jody Foldesy Ashburn -- The Washington Redskins, spurned in their pursuit for an experienced head coach, have brought back former head coach Joe Gibbs, but according to several NFL sources, it is a hire in name only. NFL sources say Gibbs refused, as all other candidates have, to work for Dan Snyder. But, he agreed to be called the head coach, collect a paycheck and remain in North Carolina with his Joe Gibbs Racing team, said top league sources. The Redskins, considered in league circles to be an unattractive opportunity due to what is widely regarded by NFL insiders as a poor front office situation, will be coached by Coy Gibbs in actuality, though an NFL source said he can call his father, Joe, when needed, except on race days, for assistance. Even that concession was hard to come by said top league employees. As we've reported for some time, the Redskins have failed in their pursuit for an actual head coaching candidate. Even Ray Rhodes, a coach widely considered throughout league decision makers as a yes-man, refused to come back to this team. NFL sources said when he left the team in 2000 after serving as defensive coordinator he found Redskins Park to be a circus. Other than Rhodes, NFL insiders all agreed no one could work for Dan Snyder. While the naming of Joe Gibbs as a figurehead may hide this fact from the uninformed, league sources assure the Times exclusively that the Redskins will be without an actual head coach until Daniel Snyder steps down or until he allows writers from the Washington Times to have access to team sources again and perhaps a better press box spot. Dan Daly, Tom Loverro, Rick Snider and fiction contributed to this report.

Reaganaut
Art, your phone should be ringing off the hook soon from Democratic candidates for President who want your services to write speeches. Either that or any major newspaper or network would hire you at the drop of a hat to do political commentary on Republicans.
