He's 25 and his NFL dream was already over. I'd bet the XFL doesn't give a **** about dumb **** like this.

Yeah, the players should've known better, but the NFL welcomed all of these problems when they partnered up with betting. The reputation of the game was already in question, betting just makes the already dubious legitimacy of the NFL look more corrupt than ever. Ridley bet on the Falcons, he didn't bet against them. Shouldn't matter, but the NFL opened the door to this problem.

 

The players also benefit from the gambling partnerships as the cap skyrockets. It’s not like the owners are making money off of gambling and the players aren’t. There are rules in place for a reason, it’s not a problem unless you’re brain-dead. Messing up your professional sports career so you can lose some money on parlays, genius. 
 

Also, the legitimacy of the game is only in question from dummies who don’t realize the refereeing is just horrendous at every level of the sport, and magnified at the pro level. Anybody who thinks games are actually being fixed should be spending their time on another hobby. 
 

It isn’t even illegal for the players to bet on other sports. You just can’t do it on NFL team property. Which is a dumb technicality but we all follow the rules of dumb technicalities every single day as part of existing in a society. 
 

Calvin Ridley was a higher profile player than any of these guys and the NFL set the precedent very clearly and loudly. Anyone who didn’t learn from that is ****ing stupid, sorry.
