jbooma
From CNN: U.S. officials and terrorism experts said that while some of the potential targets might seem unusual, there was a method to al-Qaida’s plot. For example, the officials said, al-Qaida seems particularly interested in Tappahannock, Va., a tiny town of 2,016 people with no military base or major infrastructure. Such an attack would be intended to generate widespread fear that no one was safe, even in small rural towns, they said. “Just remember that al-Qaida is not just looking to kill as many Americans as possible. They’re looking to seriously hurt our nation’s economy,” terrorism specialist Roger Cressey, former chief of staff of the President's Critical Infrastructure Protection Board, said in an interview. Buddha
They are discussing how the chatter was about either "Tappahannock" or "Rappahannock." Another small town with a similar name, along with a suspected terror enclave nearby, is "Appomattox."

A very historical spot and maybe they think they could start another type of cival war by attacking there? The question is what kind of damage could they do with a plan in an area like that or a dirty bomb??

I don't really know how you would do a terror attack on any rural community unless you did something at an annual festival or something. You could probably poison a small municipal water supply covertly, since many of these operations only have a skeleton crew and virtually no security. One interesting thing about Appomattox is the nuclear laboratories immediately to the west in Campbell County on the James River. It's my understanding that they produce nuclear fuel for military vessels there.

I don't think that plan will have a chance anyway, once we find out a plane is off course and not communicating it will be shot down

Unless there are fighter jets in the air, there's no way an airliner could be shot down if it suddenly deviated from the established flight path. But do any international airliners fly that way? This is what they are afraid of, not domestic. The scary thing is they have info on specific flight numbers. I just hope the press doesn't say to much to maybe put one of our spies in jeaporady. They way the operate by only telling certain individuals the complete plans could put someone we have in their in grave danger.
riggins44
Urbanna has a big oyster festival, but not sure if Tappahannock does. Tappahannock is not too far from Dalgren (Naval Base) and DC area. It is also about 1 1/2 hours from here (VA Peninsula) where there is a large military population. You may be thinking of the Crab Carnival that West Point has in Oct. I don't remember Tapp having any festivals from the time I lived out in Gloucester. Man, that whole Middle Peninsula/Northern Neck area is pure God's country.

OrangeSkin
They could also be referring to the Rappahanock River, which is a fairly important body of water, especially around these parts.
Cskin
In between Lynchburg and Appomattox.... there is a community of trailer parks that is predominantly Middle Eastern. Issues have been raised throughout the area that terrorist activity might be going on there. Allegedly is the key. Lynchburg does indeed have a nuclear power facility, the manufacture of the nuclear fuel and rods used in power plants. Bab**** and Wilcox is the name... down on the James River in Amherst county. My step father owns a farm across the river from the plant...directly across on the opposite flood plain.... and the plant has 24 hour surveillance on the river including guard stations and a boat to patrol the river bank.
