2020 Free Agent Wishlist

Since we are now thinking ahead to next season, I thought we may as well get started on dreaming about 2020 free agents (mods: started a new thread because this didn't seem like a fit with the 2019 FA thread - if this is an issue, please delete). List is below.

https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/

With guys like Norman, Reed, Williams (?), Moses (?) and other highly paid vets coming off the books, we should actually have a decent amount of cap space to go sign some free agents. It is entirely possible the only highly paid guys on this team next year will be Smith (which should be offset by some cap insurance), Collins (his cap hit kicks up next season), Scherff (whether we franchise him or he resigns to a long term deal) and Richardson (he's gone if one of the young guys steps up or if we draft a guy like Jeudy).

My wishlist is below. The goal here is to add proven high character veterans at solid deals. The reasons are twofold - 1) lower cap hits for each of these guys means we can add more of these guys & 2) we should save some cap room to potentially resign guys on their rookie deals like Moreau, Nicholson, Brantley and Allen to extensions.

TE Jack Doyle - was a Pro Bowler in 2018; didn't have a good year last year after he tore his ACL. Both Doyle and Ebron are FAs after this year and the Colts will likely go with Ebron. What I like about Doyle is that, in addition to being a solid pass catcher, he is considered one of the league's best run blocking tight ends. We will need that next year as we will need guys to create opportunities for Guice and Love. The downside here is that Doyle is 30 so he probably has only a few good seasons remaining. However, that should also be what keeps him cheaper than guys who are going to get paid a lot more like Waller, Hooper, Ebron and Henry.

CB Kendall Fuller - Let's bring this guy back home. He is the best slot corner in the NFL and is having another great season. We need a high character veteran to steer the corps we have today. When healthy, both Dunbar and Moreau are solid outside corners and Moreland adds more depth there. Fuller should not exceed the $9M ACV Kenny Moore got with the Colts last season. Fuller should be more affordable than guys like Byron Jones and Marcus Peters.

RT Daryl Williams - It is obvious that Moses has to go. He has had one great season in his career and his been average or below average otherwise. It is also going to be tough to fill both tackle spots through the draft. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of free agent LTs in this class. It's Whitworth, Castonzo, Beachum, Robinson and Peters. Whitworth, Castonzo and Peters ain't coming here. Beachum and Robinson are both average LTs at best. So we'll have to look to the draft to find a solution there. There are some solid RTs, however, that could be on the move and Williams could potentially be a steal. He was an All Pro in 2017 and then tore his ACL early in 2018. Given the emergence of Tyler Moton, he has had to shift to guard, where he has been average. There could be some arbitrage here by bringing him here to play his natural position. The expensive option here is Jack Conklin if we want to go that route

My problem with the "hot" options at TE are the following:

Waller - Drug addiction issues in the past and a relapse could keep him out of the league so would be very risky

Ebron - Overrated due to draft pedigree. May be just a one year wonder

Hooper - Doesn't seem to be anything special. Not a great blocker either

Henry - Injury issues

Doyle + Davis would be a great combo for next season. Maybe add a rookie if he falls into our laps
