twa
The VRA really needs to apply everywhere. All changes to voting laws which have the effect of disenfranchising minorities should be required to be subject to a higher level of scrutiny, and in advance of the law's taking effect. the VRA does...now and the laws are subject to review in advance IF they bring a case before the court, all SCOTUS did was remove the process of automatic review/preclearance based on actions 50 yrs ago. The Sisko
I don't disagree with you Larry about it being applied everywhere. In fact, much of it does. However the big issue is preclearance. Even twa on his trolliest day can understand the difference between allowing a discriminatory practice to continue until such time as the legal system works it's way around to abolishing it vs. preventing it beforehand. Regarding VRA and a number of other things the GOP has supported of late, it'll certainly be interesting to see how the shoe could potentially be put on the other foot one day when Whites are no longer the majority in this country.
