Another mock draft . . .

Given the Wynn signing, this could already be outdated, particularly the second rounder:

quote:
www.draftinsiders.com March 28
Draft Insiders' Digest - 11th Season
1-800-776-1949 NFL Draft '02 Yearbook - Available Now!!!
200 pages - 400 in-depth Profiles - $29.95
The Bible of Every NFL Front Office
All 32 NFL Teams Analyzed - Free Email Service -
Publication & Website - 5 Books & 3 Newsletters
Published by Frank Coyle

Topics
1. I would really hate this scenario because it means NONE of the top six guys I think the Skins will take would be available.

No way will the Skins take Weaver in the 1st round. Under this scenario I think the pick would be Caldwell or a DE or an even greater chance to trade down.

More and more I'm liking the idea of Alex Brown in the second round. To me, he'd be a pretty fair value there and I think we'd have a nice steal. Not a Smoot-level steal, but a nice one nonetheless. If we really think Brown can fall to us in the second round, I think a pick like Weaver here is appropriate as we would like a young tackle as well. I don't think DE is going to be our move if we legitimately think Brown might fall. But, that's just me. I've a higher opinion of Brown than others.

I have seen several mock drafts which show Brown going in late 3rd round. This could be realistic considering his bad showing in 40, i think he was in the 4.8-4.9 area.

Ofcourse we dont have a 3rd so if we really want him then we would have to take him in the 2nd. Personally i would perfer Freeney from Syracuse in the 2nd if he dropped, then Brown.

I understand Brown is a favorite to some but I dont see the value -- even in Round 2.

Besides being undersized (6'3", 251) he's not that fast (4.9 40) Those #'s are from the combine so you know they're no lie.

Here's a little snipet:

Florida’s Alex Brown has never lived up to all his hype, and while he is playing harder this year, he still is not a consistent competitor. Brown has exceptional initial quickness and a real burst up the field. He is very athletic and can counter inside very well. He is using his hands much better when he rushes and can shed on the move, but he is undersized. He also does not take on blockers well at the point of attack, and he will let up if you frustrate him, or if the play is away from him.

I don't see Weaver going to the Skins. He's practically a clone of Renaldo Wynn -- a little light for DT, not much speed off the edge.

Stay away from Alex Brown -- I've changed my mind about him. While he's never shown consistant effort, I thought a tough coach, like Lewis, might light a fire under him. But the way he's prepared for the draft (or HASN'T prepared, that is) tells me he doesn't care enough to be a high draft pick, no matter how much natural ability he may possess.

I think that Josh Reed might be under consideration. He was the best receiver in the SEC last season, including the Florida duo and Stallworth. While his measurables might not suggest he should be such a high pick, the kid simply produces. He's by far the most polished receiver coming out this year. In fact, he might be the best route runner I've seen come out of college in a while. That suggests he could be an early contributor, unlike so many other rookie WRs. So don't be shocked if his name is called out.

Yeah, Josh Brown is a stud but we will have to take him in Round 1 if we want him. He will not see the second round.

The amazing thing is that he came to LSU as a running back and they converted him. You'd never think the most polished route runner in the draft had only been catching balls for 3 years, would you? Not to mention breaking every single season SEC receiving record in the book. That's the SEC folks, the best conference in college football. He was also supposedly the best interview at the combine. Bright kid.

Look for him to go somwhere in the 20's of Round 1.
