jpyaks3
I didn't think he did, but someone put up poll numbers on twitter earlier that had him at 19% in second place to Amr Moussa 20%, no idea if the numbers are accurate. It seems like less and less are wanting the elections to go forward anytime soon. I heard a lot of people were canceling or postponing campaigns this morning. Not sure if the MB are still pushing for it to go forward though, they were yesterday. MB pulled out of demonstrations so I am assuming that they are going to try and continue pushing for elections but who knows with them. It must be a hell of a job trying to get an accurate poll out on anything in Egypt, I wonder what kind of voter models/turnout models they are using, that would be really interesting to see how polling groups are trying to tackle that problem. The US and Europe I think have both come out and (stupidly) said the elections need to take place as scheduled. ---------- Post added November-21st-2011 at 07:37 PM ---------- http://twitter.com/#!/ghazalairshad ---------- Post added November-21st-2011 at 07:52 PM ---------- http://twitter.com/?photo_id=1#!/Egyptocracy/status/138771969582694402/photo/1 http://twitter.com/#!/Egyptocracy According to a friend the fire department put out/is putting out the fire in Cilantro. It is crazy to think back in January I was one building down from that Cilantro watching the same street battles that are going on now. Unfortunately I am not back in Egypt but it definitely seems like this is gaining momentum and has a much stronger hold than the earlier sit ins back in June/July. visionary
Do you know a lot of people who are out there in Tahrir right now, or in detention? Just curious. It does seem like things have happened much quicker this time. It might be partially because the regime decided to mount a huge media propaganda campaign to slam the protesters in every way possible right after the security forces decided to beat the crap out of people and shoot their eyes out and get themselves caught on video doing it. Also people have been getting more and more upset with their tactics over the past months. By the way, you probably shouldn't quote the pic. I don't know of anyone in detention this time but I knew a few people who were detained during the January revolution. Tomorrow will be interesting as I believe there are calls for a million man march/general strike so we might see a real show of force.
Koala
Must say Im impressed with the persistence of the Egyptian protestors. I thought after Mubarak stepped down, that they might be easily distracted and talked into accepting a pseudo-democratic state that allowed the military to retain its hold on Egyptian society. I was wrong. These protests arent going to end until the military learns that it is there to srve the people, not the other way around.

The move follows days of often violent protests in Cairo's Tahrir Square. Delegates at a crisis meeting between political groups and the military said parliamentary elections next week would go ahead as scheduled. They said presidential elections would take place before the end of June next year - a key demand of protesters. Next week's elections are due to set in train a process of transition to democracy following the toppling of President Hosni Mubarak in February. Panicked ppl running thru side streets near min of int. 1 minute ago Clouds of white tear gas, clashes intensifying, banging on fences by protesters louder. 1 minute ago The AJE reporter says that in Alexandria the police cleared some of the streets and then tazed and arrested some protesters. Afterwards they drove down in vehicles towards where people had retreated and taunted the protesters to come and fight them. ---------- Post added November-22nd-2011 at 03:21 PM ---------- The police are shooting tear gas everywhere including balconies and gas stations. (Alexandria} The reporter said that the police are also running people over with vehicles. Something huge seems to be on fire in the background of the AJE feed. ---------- Post added November-22nd-2011 at 03:23 PM ---------- I'm hearing a lot of gun shots, people screaming, and tear gas continually being fired onto the street as well. ---------- Post added November-22nd-2011 at 03:25 PM ---------- A few people are braving the street and walking back towards the police firing range. ---------- Post added November-22nd-2011 at 03:29 PM ---------- It still looks pretty crowded in Tahrir despite the tear gas, and I'm seeing people on twitter say they are going back after getting some fresh air. jpyaks3
Post from one of my friends via facebook. Police are making a charge... protesters streaming down both streets on either side of my building. And the side-street connecting the two under the balcony, which had been turned into a field hospital, was just hit with tear gas. The doctors are stayed with the patients, until the last possible moment and then carried them with them. Extraordinary courage. Don't know if the tears are from the gas or what I'm seeing anymore. He is between Midan Falaky and Mohammad Mahmoud Street I believe.

This [cabinet] may take another form when the permanent government forms," McNaught said. The new cabinet will include as defence minister Osama Al-Juwali, commander of the military council in the town of Zintan. Juwali appeared to have staked his claim to the job after his forces captured Gaddafi's son, Saif al-Islam, at the weekend and flew him to their Zintan. The foreign minister was named as Ashour Bin Hayal, a little-known diplomat originally from Derna, in eastern Libya. His appointment was unexpected as diplomats had predicted the job would go to Libya's deputy envoy to the United Nations, Ibrahim Dabbashi, who had rallied diplomats to turn against Gaddafi early in the revolt. The decision to leave out Dabbashi was a "surprise", but was probably motivated by the need to appease representatives of Derna, a big anti-Gaddafi power base, one diplomat told Reuters news agency. Hassan Ziglam, an oil industry executive, was named as finance minister, and Abdulrahman Ben Yezza, a former executive with Italian oil major ENI, was made oil minister. ---------- Post added November-22nd-2011 at 04:11 PM ---------- EGYPT http://twitter.com/#!/Reem821 On the front lines a man tells me to retreat as the CSF are about to attack, and indeed they r throwing more bombs now past burnt tires 6 minutes ago http://twitter.com/#!/Beltrew Molotovs on tahrir street. visionary
From the footage I saw a few minutes ago Tahrir is still very crowded around 6 am. I haven't really seen any news or much in the way of updates about clashes or anything in quite a few hours though. http://twitter.com/#!/jamalAljazeera Tahrir just past 7am http://yfrog.com/oewi3syj 10 minutes ago I guess a lot of people went home for a break or are resting in tents. http://twitter.com/#!/SamehBrill CSF Still hammering gas grenades while approaching tahrir square now. November 23, 2011 I'm seeing a lot of reports by the international media that Saleh (Yemen pres) is in the Saudi Arabian capital to sign the GCC inititive deal...I refuse to post any of it though, until the **** actually signs.
