Ugandan dictator Idi Amin announced today that 1,400 Ugandan dissidents have died in a four month long bus crash. When asked about anonymous reports that the bodies of the dissidents had been riddled with bullets, the dictator pointed out that it was very dangerous to be cleaning automatic weapons in a moving vehicle. twa
A change of pace....a look at finances http://pjmedia.com/spengler/2011/11/17/egypt-syria-and-turkey-the-lepers-with-the-fewest-fingers/?singlepage=true With the financial news focused on the unraveling of Europe’s state finances, the mounting economic catastrophe in the Muslim world has barely merited a mention. Egypt and Syria are about to go over a cliff, while Turkey, supposedly the poster boy for Islamic success, faces a nasty economic reversal — not a catastrophe of Egyptian proportions, but sufficient to destroy Tayyip Erdogan’s reputation as an economic wizard and make his fractious country hard to govern. The so-called Arab Spring will end with no winners, only losers. .. By early 2012, expect to find the members of the Supreme Command of the Armed Forces moving into just-purchased mansions in South Kensington or Cannes, and bare cupboards in state warehouses. The military’s only response to the crisis was to fire all the independent directors of Egypt’s central bank, as I reported last month. That implies that they want a free hand to embezzle. By the end of next year, I predict, Egypt will become Somalia-on-the-Nile. Assad Goes for Broke, Literally Erdogan to Turks: “Let Them Eat Baklava” The Turkish government seems to be losing its grip on reality. (more @ link) Spengler is always entertaining. Make it clear that you support the Egyptian people and their rights, without calling for anyone to resign or having to specifically condemn anything. (yet) And don't foolishly come out and say that the election needs to be held on time, which is growing more and more unpopular now. visionary
El Baradei is supposedly being considered for PM by the military council. It would probably be a mistake for him, since he would end up lumped together with them and would probably have his credibility tarnished.
jpyaks3
El Baradei is supposedly being considered for PM by the military council. It would probably be a mistake for him, since he would end up lumped together with them and would probably have his credibility tarnished. It would definitely destroy his credibility with the activists but to be honest El Baradei doesn't have a terribly large base of supporters. These conflicts have been building for some time between the SCAF and the activist population, the numbers in the square are bad news for the SCAF because it might be a sign the average guy on the street in Cairo or Alexandria is moving away from them and towards the revolutionaries. At this point there is no way elections will mean anything until the military council steps down.

At this point there is no way elections will mean anything until the military council steps down. I didn't think he did, but someone put up poll numbers on twitter earlier that had him at 19% in second place to Amr Moussa 20%, no idea if the numbers are accurate. It seems like less and less are wanting the elections to go forward anytime soon. I heard a lot of people were canceling or postponing campaigns this morning. Not sure if the MB are still pushing for it to go forward though, they were yesterday. The US and Europe I think have both come out and (stupidly) said the elections need to take place as scheduled. ---------- Post added November-21st-2011 at 07:37 PM ---------- http://twitter.com/#!/ghazalairshad Upper levels of tahrir cilantro on fire..with ppl inside. 32 minutes agoI witnessed ppl in upper levels of tahrir cilantro bldg burning myself.
