SkinnedAussie
Other countries have had a female running the show, but never has Australia had a female Prime Minister. However, that could very well change in just over 30 minutes when the caucus votes on whether to retain Kevin Rudd, or to promote Julia Gillard to the top position. SkinnedAussie
The general consensus is that Rudd should pull the pin and walk out with pride, rather than be embarrassed by the caucus vote. A poll by the local paper has already had 12,500 voters, with 62% wanting the change to happen. We'll know the result in about 20 minutes.
SkinnedAussie
She needs 58 votes, but the expectation is that she'll get as many as 75.

ixcuincle
It was over a month ago but during my 4 or 5 days in Australia I saw on Sky News about approval ratings declining for Kevin Rudd, the VP or whoever is in charge had higher approval ratings Good for her
SkinnedAussie
Word filtering through is that Kevin Rudd removed himself from the ballot, and with that, Julia Gillard becomes the first female Prime Minister of Australia.
SkinnedAussie
To help negate the effects of the GFC, Rudd was prepared to hand out a truckload of money to all Australians in a bid to keep the economy ticking over. His approval rating then was near record highs. Surprisingly, now that the hand-outs have ceased, his approval rating has been dropping by the day. SkinnedAussie
We're getting blanket coverage of it now. All the children's programming has been put on hold, and it's quite likely we'll have it for most of the day. We're just waiting for our new PM to make an appearance and face her first press conference as the official PM (she's already done a couple as Deputy PM).
