?'s about online gambling...

I have never bet online. I usually play free texas hold em. I would like to maybe deposit 50 bucks or so and open up a real account.

How easy is it to place bets on football games?

How do you collect your winnings?

Can anyone give me any feedback on this? My main questions are.

Do you have to pay taxes?

Is it legal in VA to gamble online?

How does bodog or any other site make $$? Do you have to pay monthly fees?

Do you know any risks other than becoming addicted and blowing your life savings?

Which site is the best?

Any other feedback would be appreciated. No one I know bets at all online.

I used to use bodog a few years ago. They collect money on your losses and through rakes during poker games.

I think most places now you have to use your credit card to deposit money on the sites.

Its definitely fun, but don't lose all your money!

Through Rakes? Whats a rake? And if you dont mind me asking how much did you win or should I say did you end up winning more or losing more?

Through Rakes? Whats a rake?

They take a certain percentage from the pot in poker games. Its just a few cents or so a hand. But it adds up for them.

I ended up breaking even over time. When I first started I had it hooked right into my bank account. Then when they passed the law about online gambling, I couldn't do that anymore and just kind of gave up. It was definitely fun though.

To be honest, I would just wait until the July 1st opening of table games at Charlestown and head up there.

+1 if you want to do casino games...

go do it in person..

most likley you are going to lose the money anyways so at least go enjoy the environment...

too easy so people to "cheat" in one way or another when you play poker online

Online is better if you don't have a large bankroll, because the smallest stakes at a casino for NLHE is usually $1/2, whereas online its WAY less. You have to adjust for skill, because the $1/2 players in the casino are way worse than the $1/2 players online, but it's not too hard to figure out where you stand skill-wise; just play within the limits of your bankroll.

I know everyone loves Full Tilt, I prefer PokerStars. Both work fine. I know you can use eChecks on Pstars, that's one of the reasons I like it. You might be able to do that on FT by now also, dunno. Getting money on and off isn't that difficult, though, especially with eChecks.

I have played online through pokerstars for a few years and while playing online you can find a variety of limits, plentiful games, and large tourneys, like others have said, its way to easy to "cheat" online.

Whether its at a cash game where three of the other four players are colluding via something like teamspeak or instant messaging or with the use of tracking software such as pokerpro or any of the other endless software out there online is just a bad bet. iTs not that the software is technically illegal via the gaming sites, but they are able to track some 50 categories of your play which is stored in a database and this is displayed on their screens in real time which allows them to have a HUGE advantage over other players. Yes, I realize that anyone can use them but reading data from a chart to make your decisions ruins half of the fun of playing cards, for me anyways.

If you do play online, I would stay with large tourneys or satellite events. Hell, even greg raymer the former main event champion won his way into the main event on a 33$ quailifier satellite.

It all depends on your motive. If you are playing cards to make money, live is the only way to go. Back in 2003 when the Chris Moneymaker boom hit, there were so many bad players online that you could make money hands over fist without even really trying, but all the bad players have ran out of money and whats left is the cream of the crop players which while are beatable, are not really very profitable in terms of time vs reward.

Cheers
