Not all Jets fans thought John Hall to be sub par.

I read some of that stuff in that thread on GangGreen.com b4 you posted thr link.

It's too bad that some of those idiots had to trash the poor girl for saying she considers John Hall a role model for herself just because Hall signed with the Redskins.

It just shows the true depths of the stupidity of some Jets fans.

I will say that of all our offseason aquisitions that John Hall is the one I'm most worried about. Rob and Patrick Johnson both have their flaws obviously, but both are projected as backups. Trung Canidate and Matt Bowen are big question marks, but the worst case scenario at both positions is that we end up playing the guys we were playing at the end of last year (Betts/Watson and Dave Terrell). There is no backup plan at kicker and Hall hasn't exactly been Mr. Reliable so far in his NFL career.

the Jets kept Hall around for 4 or 5 years. Either they thought he was a pretty good player or their front office is just that slow and plodding?

I think Hall is a solid player and for the Redskins that is what they have been missing. The makeable 35 to 40 yard field goals that win you games in the fourth quarter.

No one here is expecting Hall to come in and be Morten Andersen in his prime, kicking 55 yarders as if they are practice kicks :)

You put Hall on the Skins last year against the Giants in the second game and the first Dallas game as well and the Skins could have been 9-7 even with inconsistent qb play all year and a dearth of bigtime playmakers.

No, it just shows we've watched Hall play.

Hall sucks.

He might be better than some of the other bums the Skins have had in recent years but at the price the 'Skins signed him for...

LOL, no frickin way!

Come on now ganggreen, I realize you were responding to a jets fan bash comment, but thats a homer post if ever there was one. Feel free to post your statistical evidence demonstrating 'Hall sucks'. I'm not going to argue he's the second coming of Mark Moseley, but he is clearly a solid quality kicker, and light years ahead of anything the Skins have approached at that position dating back to at least Chip Lohmiller.

And what we paid for him is irrelevant since the discussion is whether or not he's a talented kicker or not.

Jet fans like to harp on Hall's 73.4% conversion rate on field goals.

What they fail to realize is that 73.4% means that he missed, on average, 7 filed goals out of 26.

Skins kickers the past 6 years (since Hall has been in the NFL)...

1997 16/24 66.7%

1998 13/21 61.9%

1999 22/32 68.8%

2000 20/30 66.7%

2001 26/33 78.8%

2002 16/25 64.0%

Totals 113/165 68.5%

The Jets kicking under Hall...

1997 28/41 68.3% (rookie year)

1998 25/35 71.4%

1999 27/33 72.7%

2000 21/32 65.6%

2001 24/31 77.4%

2002 24/31 77.4%

Totals 149/203 73.4%

A 5% better conversion rate.

Moreover, if one was to assume that his 2000 year was an anomaly (and didnt calculate it into the equation - which is dangerous) - Hall would then be a 74.8% career kicker.

Any questions?

Get used to seeing KR's catch the ball at their own 15, yup what a "huge" leg. Definately worth the price little Danny boy shelled out

Westhoff said it best

"When John Hall missed a kick were you ever surprised"

Actually, we are used to that dumbass. But I think we'll see just what Hall is worth on Sept. 4th. Who's your kicker again?

Hall isn't the worst kicker in the NFL but he'll have you guys pulling your hair out, he's so INCONSISTANT. He'll split the uprights on a 52 yard kick, then pull a 37 yarder wide left-right, you never know what you're going to get out of him.

As for stats, I'm going by what I saw of him, I think that's enough.

He's definately not worth what the Redskins paid him. :puke: :puke: :puke:

Snyder would have been better off giving that $$$ to Edinger, just mho.

What you fail to realize is last year he was 84% on the road. So when hes not dealing with one of the worst places for a kicker in the nfl (Jets I mean GIants stadium) Hes really a solid kicker. good luck jets fans lol (if you dont believe it look it up) 84% on the road is pretty damn good.

what's really funny is the Jets won the AFC East last year and won a playoff game and yet their own fans seem to think that 4 or 5 of their starters from last year that they lost are virtually valueless

Hall's a bum. Coles is overrated. Thomas wanted too much money and is overrated as well. Morton is limited and has questionable hands...........

Geez, then my question was how were the Jets able to win those games last year with so many limited or overtouted players?

Herman Edwards must be the ultimate miracle worker

It's kind of interesting, because some people say they long for the days of Chip Lohmiller. Funny thing is, Hall kind of reminds me of Lohmiller: both big guys with strong legs and known for their deep kickoffs, as well.

Here are Hall's career stats:

Year Team FGM FGA FG% XPM XPA XP%

1997 NYJ 28 41 68.3 36 36 100.0

1998 NYJ 25 35 71.4 45 46 97.8

1999 NYJ 27 33 81.8 27 29 93.1

2000 NYJ 21 32 65.6 30 30 100.0

2001 NYJ 24 31 77.4 32 32 100.0

2002 NYJ 24 31 77.4 35 37 94.6

TOTALS 149 203 73.4 205 210 97.6

And here are Lohmiller's:

Year Team FGM FGA FG% XPM XPA XP%

1988 WAS 19 26 73.1 40 41 98

1989 WAS 29 40 72.5 41 41 100

1990 WAS 30 40 75.0 41 41 100

1991 WAS 31 43 72.1 56 56 100

1992 WAS 30 40 75.0 30 30 100

1993 WAS 16 28 57.1 24 26 92

1994 WAS 20 28 71.4 30 32 94

1995 NO 8 15 53.3 11 13 85

1996 STL 21 25 84.0 28 29 97

TOTALS 204 285 71.6 301 309 97

Can we live with that?
