DButz65
IMHO we dont have any at this point and time, because of age, maybe Cooley but isnt he locked up for the next 5 years?
clarkskin
With all due respect, it is kind of a stupid question. Suggs and Peppers...are those really players you would deem "franchise.?" The franchise label is more of a contractual thing. Peppers is not exactly young anymore, and Suggs is great in the Ravens system, but would not be suited for a 4-3 scheme. Neither one would be a franchise changer if signed. That said, who among us was saying that Portis was not a "game-changer" and had no speed after 8 weeks when he was nearly on pace for 2000 yards? It all goes back to 0-line--for everything on offense (that and the wide-outs.) If the o-line doesn't suck like it didn't the first half of the season, then Portis is kicking ass and JC is doing well. The o-line broke down the second half of the season, and everything went to hell. You could put Brady behind center against the Ravens or Steelers and he would have been crap with our o-line. ttr77
I still don't think there is one player on this team that would make it a worse team by leaving.
skinzwiz
This team could not afford to lose Portis. He does too much for the running game. Betts is good, but he is a distant second to Portis.
NastyBoy
I still don't think there is one player on this team that would make it a worse team by leaving. Sadly, ttr, you may be 100% correct. How depressing.
ABSTRACT
Yeah Portis gets the franchise tag even though he is old. I think Hall deserves that too.
flock53
I dont think ANY current player is worth the average of top 8 at any position. Maybe Cooley, but you have to get him the ball. Maybe Samuels too. We'll see how Laron plays out.
rumplestilskin
I'm actually surprised nobody is standing up for Portis especially after his monster year. Anyone think he is worthy of the franchise tag. Remember, after all it is a one year deal and Portis would be considered a top 5 back after last season. Agree totally. Its sad when CP keeps on pounding the rock top 5 style and #1 in pass protection that he is not considered tag worthy. He is our best player by far. Proof Anyone? Imagine our team with out him and think seriously. Conclusion for me is he is the one player who is irreplaceable. He would whine a bunch and probably hold out if the tag hit him though. He is also willing to restructure all the time to keep his team together.
JMSSMJ7
I think Laron is worthy of a tag, and i think CP is.
StillUnknown
the "franchise player" tag needs to be renamed i don't think we have a "franchise player" on our squad right now.
