Now, is it a meaningful act or does it really decrease the liklihood of lying. Probably not for most villians, but we know exactly why it became a tradition or why people believe our words carry more weight. Personally though, since I was taught not to worship engraved images, I don't think a book is particularly "of God" The ideas within might or might not be, but the book itself is just pages and binding and ink.
