I know that Hume was ABC's White House correspondant during some of the Lewinsky saga. He was let go after asking Clinton some very pointed questions about the whole thing (don't know if there is any cause-effect relationship going on there).

He may have been with CNN in between ABC and FNC but, in the words of the Clintons, I can't reacall.:dunce:

I thought he was with CNN during the first Gulf War?

Here's his bio from the FNC Website. It appears that his Desert Storm coverage was with ABC:

With more than 30 years of journalism experience to draw from, Brit Hume is Fox News’ managing editor and chief Washington, D.C., correspondent.

Hume serves as anchor of cable television’s highest rated political program, Special Report with Brit Hume, which airs weekdays on FOX News Channel from 6-7 p.m. ET. He also serves as a regular panelist on the broadcast network’s weekly public affairs program, FOX News Sunday. In addition to covering major political stories and contributing news analysis to FOX News Channel, Hume is responsible for overseeing news content for FOX News’ Washington, D.C., bureau.

Before joining FOX News in 1996, Hume was with ABC News for 23 years, serving as chief White House correspondent from 1989–1996. During his tenure, he contributed to World News Tonight With Peter Jennings, Nightline and This Week as well as various specials for the news division. Hume joined ABC in 1973 as a consultant for the network’s documentary division and was named a Washington correspondent in 1976. He was later promoted to Capitol Hill correspondent and reported on Congress until 1988.

Earlier, Hume reported for United Press International (UPI.) He began his career as a newspaper reporter with The Hartford Times and the Baltimore Evening Sun.

Hume has received numerous honors and awards, including a 1991 Emmy Award for his coverage of the Gulf War. He was also twice named “The Best in the Business” by the American Journalism Review for his extensive news coverage of the White House. Hume is the author of two books, Inside Story and Death and the Mines.

A graduate of the University of Virginia, Hume resides in Washington, D.C., with his wife Kim Schiller Hume, who is FOX News’ Washington, D.C., bureau chief.

It's really very simple. The mainstream media had gone so far left that Fox News' middle of the road reporting--yes, fair and balanced--is deemed right wing. It's the same paradigm that led to mainstream conservative Rush Limbaugh being labeled a reactionary nut.

Rush Limbaugh? ROTFLMAO!

I was thinking the same thing, Jack. Do you really see Rush as mainstream? Unless he's mellowed a lot, I seem to recall him being pretty severe in his opinions.

Mainstream conservative is the operative term. He's slightly to the right of the president, mostly on economic issues. You may think that W is too far right but half the country (OK, slightly less) voted for him and some 70% approve of the job he's doing, so he can't be considered to be out of the mainstream.

Limbaugh is not a gun nut, not a conspiracy theorist, doesn't look for black helicoptors, not an isolationist (ala Pat Buchannon), isn't in line with the militia types, doesn't advocate blowing up abortion clinics or anything else that I would consider trademarks of the far right wing.

Funny how one channel now called GOP TV has Liberal TV and Print media sweating bullets.

I have yet to see a democrat give the president props for ending the conflict and liberating the people with few casualties to us and the iraqi population.

Just cant answer that yes or no question Al Sharpton, Dashole or the NY representative whose name escapes me.

Imagine the country if there was only one liberal outlet and it was on cable and the rest was conservative and the major papers werent liberal like the wash post NY times or LA times.

The country would have more people able to stand on their own two feet (less entitlements) and less pork wasteful spending since they would be more informed

Yes want we need to make this country great is more Foxnews TV stations. If we were just all conservatives their would be no government spending except of course for the military and selected churches and corporations.

Crime would go away and world hunger would be solved! Such a world is probably waiting for us all in the afterlife!

I dont like corporate welfare either but to end that Mandates (another word for hidden taxes) would have to end also for those specific programs.

I still dont understand how the media and liberal have a cow when contracts are given to certain corporations.

Are they supposed to go to the inexperienced or a company that didnt support them?

I still cant get over how the liberals dems and republicans can say that keeping more of our money is wrong then you hear how pork is going toward weed control (No not the stuff you smoke) and other programs that had nothing to do with the War package which you'll find this garbage.

Jack, I'm curious. Do you agree that news is more moderate and balanced now than it was prior to 1996 when Fox News Channel came into being? If not, why not?

No not really. It's the same. The only thing I admit that Fox News brought that was good was comedy! They do make me chuckle some times! :)

You would have the government only fund the military? If not what other programs would you fund?

Those countries better suite your ideoligies. I'm not going anywhere as I love my country! When it comes to freedom, there's none better! I want an administration(like the current) who has strong moral convictions, and doesn't compromise our national security. Unlike my country, the ones you mention use their military to suppress their people.:stop:

You have some messed up ideas my friend. Since when is premption an issue of morality? This oh so very moral George Bush has done nothing but put the American people in more danger with each passing day. You sure "love your country" but you have no idea what freedom is do you?

Kilmer and Redman,

Help this misguided young conservative please!

Ever since preemption of attacks upon innocent civilians saved those civilians' lives.

Since when is waiting for your enemy to slaughter as many innocent civilians as they can a moral or even wise position?
