SkinsGuy
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d80869c8b&template=with-video&confirm=true I'm surprised. I thought the NFL was reluctant to hold the Super Bowl in a city that was potentially cold and snowy in January/Febuary (see Super Bowl XXVI... Redskins vs. Bills in Minneapolis as reason why). BlueinBuf
It was just in Detroit like 2 years ago
Kosher Ham
It's about hotels in a certain radius more than anything. Secondary factor is a domed facility. As far as I know anyway.
RFKFedEx
It's part of the payback plan for the NFL's stadium loan construction program Tags set up in 90s. Indi was pretty much gauranteed a SB if they built it w/public financing in addition to private loans. Same story w/ Hou, Det and Jax. However, don't look for the big game to return those cities on a regular rotation. I suspect it's a one and done deal for each town icluding Indi. IMO SB week will suck in Indi, much like it did in Jax and Det.
pjfootballer
The SB was always played in warm weather sites, but the Minnesota/KC and then the Pitt/Minn SB's were played in New Orleans and Houston with bad weather conditions. Hence the need for the Superdome and Astrodome. It was once a taboo thing to play in a winter site, but the NFL decided to take a chance on Detroit and the Silverdome because they renovated it to hold over 80,000. There have been alot of cold weather SB's, but of course they need a dome. I think the only thing that holds some cold weather cities back is the 2 weeks of activities outdoors that bothers the NFL. But when the Redskins played the Bills, they made it a winter wonderland of sorts and figured out you can still have a good time in cold weather. Geez, look at the monsoon the Colts and Bears played in down in Miami.
