Quiet comfortable calm

Two weeks ago, as the Cowboys game rolled closer, I bit my fingernails down to the nub. I was a wreck. I knew something was up. In my heart I knew we weren't going to win that game. Then, Last week, I had this quiet comfortable calm feeling. No worries as Mick Dundie might say. This feeling is usually trustworthy. Sure, I picked the Eagles to win in the "man" competition, but that's because I'm always wrong on my predictions when it comes to Redskins winning or losing. Check out the leader board and you will agree, a couple of lucky points here and there or I'd be barely on the board.

Anyhoo, I have the same comfortable calm this week. The Eagles don't scare me, and unless the Redskins give them the game via turnovers, I think we take this game pretty much the same way we took the last one. The score will not reflect the Redskins purdy darn good perfromance.

Will, I guarantee a Redskins victory...ummm..no. But, the ol'e tummy-tum is nice and stable and I feel pretty good. It is only Wednesday, but if I were to get the bundle of nervy-nerves it would have started days ago.

Yes, quiet comfortable calm, picture, if you will, the Corona add with the two bottles of beer sitting on the table as the sun sets and the annoucers says, "It's good."

Win or lose, I will still be happy with what the Skins have done so far this year considering the abismal start. We have mucho to look forward to.

Enjoy that comfort. Come Sunday afternoon your stomach will be turning. The Philadelphia Eagles are coming to your place and ripping your hearts out. I see all kinds of talk about the foreskins sweeping the season! Ha Ha

The Eagles will win Sunday.

Hey thats cool to be calm when your shot at the playoffs is about to be squashed by the Birds you fear the least. I guess after you lose on Sunday, you can go drink that Corona beer and think back to all of the highlites of the Redskin season. Yes it was something to watch your club go from 0-5 to 5-5 and now 6-6. Thats cool. And dont forget you can pop in the video of Redskin glory dayz gone buy to suck down the suds instead of watching those dirty Birds get their 1st SB victory against all odds this season. Yep I got the Champangne bottle ready to pop right after the Chad Lewis touchdown that all but locks us in,,, and you out. Dont you think thats wonderful? smile.gif Cheers my friend and GO EAGLES !!!

I had that same no worries feeling before the Dallas game. I just knew we'd win that game ... So much for that. doh.gif

This week I feel a calm as well, but it's a little different. I just don't feel the pressure. If we win, great. If we lose, well, when you start 0-5 and get swept by Dallas anything past 3 wins is gravy. I don't know.

We should win this game. But if history is any sort of an indicator (and it has been at least once this season) we never sweep the Eagles. Maybe Marty will finally start re-writing the books.

Anyway, here's hoping your gut feeling is better than mine was.

Bird-Brains,

Give it a rest already. You all came over here once already with delusions of grandeur and the next Monday this place was littered with Crow carcasses.

Mock the 'Glory Days' all you want, but until you experience some of your own you don't have a clue as to what you are talking about. But who knows? Maybe 10 years from know you can all think back to the good old days when you split the series with the 6-6 Redskins and won the weakest division in the NFL. rolleyes.gif

I just wonder how you guys can be so sure about winning. So sure that it was an "abberation" last time. I guess it was all because the Eagles played like crap and the Redskins just sucked enough to win. Personally, I think the Eagles played like crap because the Redskins made them play like crap. Just like the Broncos looked like crap when we played them. Just like the Cards played like crap against the Redskins. With the exception of the Cowboys (I'm not going there) teams we play have this tendancy to play like crap against us. Coincidence???

I'd be calm too if I knew my season was about to end. After the Eagles end your season, maybe we'll allow you to jump on the Philadelphia bandwagon, afte we publicly humiliate you for being a Redskin fan in the 1st place.

That one made a lot of sense Redskins_Suckz! Yeah, and Eagle win would really make me feel humiliated for rooting for the Redskins!

With that kind of logic I can't see how you are an Eagles fan considering that you have zero Lombardi trophies in the case. More than likely you are some 10 year old who can't remember past last season.

Now, now Redskin fan, what he really meant was your gonna feel like bummed out man when reality sets in Sunday evening. And for the record, the Eagles were in the NFL long before the Redskins, and I believe we as an organization have won 4 NFL Championships, but dont quote me on that. As for Superbowls, well lets just sit back and see if we get one this year. Why not, your team aint gonna get one, so we may as well go for it. We have nothing to lose either.

And his point was, What Reality? The reality that they were 0-5 and would be 6-7 by week 14? His point is this season has turned out to be more exciting than was expected after the 0-5 start. And that its not a huge deal if the Redskins lose Sunday because of what they've accomplished. Its hard to be bummed about a team when they have consistently exceeded your expectations following a start like that.

I was born in the 60's but I still don't remember the Eagles ever winning the NFC East?

Let's see I remember the Giants won a few, the Cowboys won some and of course the Redskins won a string of them. Nope I can't remember either of the "Bird" teams winning? Oh wait it just came to me I guess they one won in 1980 I think I remember Dick Vermiel crying because he lost the Super Bowl.

Mary you Eagles are going no where no the superbowl this year. At best you'd win one playoff game.

At least we have some "Glory Days" to watch on tape. How many Super Bowls have the Iggles been to? I'm waiting. It's awfully quiet out there. Oh, I remember now, you went that one year. Carter was still in office, wasn't he? They didn't even have VCR's to tape the game with back then. I take that back, they had them, but they cost about a grand.

So, what were we writing about? Oh yeah, glory days. I remember the 80's and early 90's. In fact, I have a poster right behind me that says "Decade of Champions". I don't remember seeing the Philly's "Decade of Champions" poster when I bought my Skins poster. It sure is nice to reminisce on Super Bowl victories, Division Titles. Maybe you all could do that too, one day. The one catch is............you have to win somethng first. Cheers

In the interests of accuracy (and certainly not to encourage the blathering of our green feathered friends) I believe the last time the Eagles won the division was 1996. They were tied with Dallas at 10-6, but I believe they won on a tie-breaker.

Notably, however, every other team in the division, save the Cards, has won since then.

The Skins were established in 1932 and have won 3 superbowls in five visits, along with four other world championships. When were the Eagles founded?

And can we get some board moderation preventing the use of the word foreskins please?

There's no place for that here. In general this thread is saturated with the kind of ignorance I haven't seen since my days on TSN, and I hope Big Jack and Redskins_Suckz are proud of themselves for it. You're making intelligent Eagle fans look bad.

Lou, you haven't always been a jackass and I'm surprised to see you jump at the opportunity when a couple of your lesser IQed colleagues paves the way, for shame.

Actually redmen the Cowboys won the division in 1996. The Eagles went to San Francisco in the first round and got blanked if I'm not mistaken, 14-0. Remember Dallas had the division wrapped up so they played all their reserves for the final game at RFK.

Given Redskins Suckz demonstrated level of intelligence, I'd say it's highly unlikely he'll return to eat crow. Many of you will assume he chickened out and didn't want to face the music. No, if he comes back, we'll all know next time we visit extremeskins.com and it congratulates our newest registered member, "Redskins_Rulez"

I'll say it again:

Whoa ... deju vu all over again.

Every time I think I've got a handle on all the Eagle fans trolling by, another one comes a-droning, exhibiting an almost identical dearth of depth, vision or class. It's unbelievable. There must be one big @ss old cookie-cutter up I-95, just cranking away.

You know how sometimes you have to tell your kids that there's just no way they can understand something yet; that until they actually live through some things themselves, they simply cannot know? Well, that's what it's like dealing with these strutting, preening meatheads.

Someday, just maybe ... they'll know about winning championships; what it takes, what it feels like, why it's so damn hard, and so rewarding ... and ultimately, so humbling. And maybe, just maybe, they'll be able to look back and understand just how incredibly banal their present chest-beating and jumping up and down for attention comes off.

Yeah, I know they can't understand it now, but maybe, just maybe, someday they will. Until then ... I guess we can only smile knowingly, pat them on their little green heads, and let them continue to prove that the sterling reputation they so ably perpetuate is well earned, indeed.

MarkPSkins, loved your post, sucks that it almost got lost in the clamor of pre-pubescent puffery from Philly. Here's to the prescience of your innards. smile.gif

The Eagles and their fans are inspired beyond rational thought by pedestrian accomplishments. Here is a perfect example. They've led the division for a while and a team that lost five games to open the season is in second place, and, frighteningly close to first should it win again this week, yet, they are on a contact high from just a brush with success.

MW is correct, that we, as Redskin fans have greater aspirations and expectations and awareness of what excellence and success is than do Eagle fans, so, it is hard to bum us out as we've been through so much more and had so much more to be thankful for, and proud over. Eagle fans, on the other hand, would literally be crushed if they didn't win the division this year. They would hold vigils to remember departed chat board members, unable to cope, who've died from alcohol poisoning. Of course, being Philly fans and the general loss among that population of the same, it will be hard to tell the willful losses from the ones that just happen because the odds are so in their favor in this case.

Yes, the Eagle fans are unaware of how to handle success and be confident in a team. They enjoy a false bravado breed of questionable public schooling and a history of rooting for a team that just never crosses the very close to any level of interest in the NFL. I understand your feeling Mark. But, as shown, so too do I "get" what Eagle fans are going through. Have another boys. It's on me tonight. Sunday, it'll be on the Redskins smile.gif.

My brother.

He was always scrawnier than me, yet he had this compunction to always be testing himself against me. He'd pick a fight, we'd go round and round, I'd knock him down a coupla pegs, but he always kept coming back, dishing out the same old crap and receiving the same old abuse in return.

It wasn't masochism, it wasn't logical, it wasn't even fun. It was his burning desire to prove himself against me - the standard he'd set for himself.

So I gotta say, this week has been like deja vu for me.
