Time to Seriously Rebuild This Team

And i bet you think this team is doing great headed in the right direction. Yes you are more intelligent than me. shut up!

The problem with this team right now is the offensive line depth. We need to draft some youth along the OLine, so we actually have some decent replacements if our starters get injured. When healthy, our OLine is one of the best in the business. We have two solid young running backs, who given lanes can put up serious yards. We've got a youngster with a lot of promise waiting in the wings in Marcus Mason. Randle-El makes plays. Moss makes plays. He's having a rough start, true, but that doesn't make him any less of a playmaker. Chris Cooley is a top 5 TE in this league.

When we have time and running lanes, our offense can put up points. Against a defense like New England's, we didn't. Against AZ, Dockett was breathing down Campbell's neck all game. New England is having one of those magical seasons in which Vrabel's pinky extends just far enough to catch the end of the ball as Cambpell is throwing it. half a second longer, or half an inch further away, and Campbell gets the throw off, and who knows what happens then.

New England is a good team. Our defense is solid and young. Our Oline needs some new faces, but Samuels, Thomas, Rabach and even Jansen have a few more years in them. The problem is that we haven't been addressing the age along the line all along. We've done well on defense, but not on the Oline. Teams are always drafting OLinemen to recycle.

The main problem I have with this thread is that you felt like creating another one, when there are already several.

This team has a lot of talent. But almost all of the talent, Campbell and Taylor excepted, has a high price tag. A good deal of the bench is playing at the minimum, and they aren't the types of players who are going to step up - they're mostly players with several years under their belts that aren't very good. Its particularly evident on the OL, but also true at receiver. I really don't see any backups that are likely to be future stars, or even solid contributors.

At some point, some of the inequities will need to be addressed. Taylor and Campbell will want some dough, and the Lloyds, Brunnells, Springs and Rogers need to be taken off the payroll (Lloyd, Brunnell) or having their salary adjusted to match their contribution (Rogers, Springs). This won't be easy, because a lot of the players have been paid largely in signing bonuses, so there is no going back.

This isn't going to be easy to accomplish, and may result in a short term decrease in talent. But keeping players around at ridiculous salaries because its too expensive to get rid of them doesn't make long term sense. That's why a really top notch executive is needed to oversee the project.

Russ Grimm would be a logical choice to replace Gibbs.

The fact is Grimm would have the O-line ready no matter what type of team the Redskins are which is most important. What I find comical is how people try to assign the Skins an identity off the field. The Skins need to be a balanced team that can run and pass with equal success.

If the Skins are a passing team they would protect well and if they are a running team they will be good at that. I can see massive improvements in the Cardinals already and Grimm would come in here breathing fire and brimstone to make sure Players are accountable and on one page.

Cowher is ok, but he has no history here and he is very much like Gibbs. Grimm knows that Gibbs best years were when the Skins were aggressive and balanced.

It would be a crime if anyone else got the reigns other than Grimm. He is a true Redskin, he is a no excuses tough guy and he will get the team on one page.

That is what the Skins need....

Don't be to dramatic. We have a good nucleus but need to get younger and stronger on the Oline and we need some WRs. We also need some defensive line help in the long run.

Yeah we need to start drafting young talent at the OLine and at WR. We need big physical Recievers on crossing routes, make it easy for JC.

Brady is showing everyone that short passes can work if you are attacking downfield instead of throwing stupid screens all the time and out patterns.

Brady went downfield with his short passes and his guys got 7-8 yard chunks compared to the redskins 1-4 yard passes. The Redskins set themselves up for failure where the patriots offense is designed to put the pressure on the defense by always attacking downfield (short or long).

Seriously, do people think before they post? Snyder bought the team in May 1999. Do the math. How credible are your posts if you don't even know how long Snyder's owned the team?

The constant rebuilding and trunover on this team has been its single biggest problem during the Snyder era. Rebuild? The season isn't even half over, and you want to rebuild? The same fans who cry continually about this franchise's performance over the last 15 years are the same people who cry out for more of the same. Rebuilding over and over and over again is what has landed this franchise where it is. Fans what the front office to be patient and build a winner, but they can't do the same.

Here here. It always astounds me how impatient Skins fans have become. There's no such thing as instant gratification in the NFL. You can't cobble together a bunch of stars and expect a Super Bowl trophy. This isn't Madden and it isn't a fantasy team. And each time you scrap the old system and start from scratch, like an earlier poster said, you set the team back by years.

After Gibbs tenure is up, we'll obviously need to rebuild, but it needs to be done intelligently. Keep Williams-- he can coach a defense and we have a lot of young talent already who know his system. Besides, we'll need a defense that can take a little pressure off a budding offense. Rededicate to the draft and build a homegrown team around Campbell. Use FA for depth mainly, and maybe the occasional possession wideout. And most of all, be patient-- fans, players and particularly Snyder. Give it a few years with a consistent coaching style and roster and we can be a playoff caliber team again in no time.

It is good to see some sense around here. In the sea of darkness a few candles really brighten my outlook.
