Among boxing experts, this opinion would be held by a small minority.

Fighting is about matching up styles, and neither Cus D'Amato nor Mike Tyson thought that Tyson could beat George Foreman.

Tyson and D'Amato knew very big men who could fight would give Tyson trouble. He was a bulldog, but, sheer size could counter some of his power and potency. Tyson's legend has diminished because of how bad he became and how much of his prime was lost. But, you watch him on the rise and you'll see what no one else in boxing has ever seen or done prior. Tyson lacked longevity to be among the greatest of all time. But, for the period he was at his best, there was none who could compete.

I hear a lot of MMA support here because of the wrestling element and there's something to that. Put Liddell against a man he's about the same size and he'd probably be fine. Holyfield, for example, would get hurt because he could be moved around pretty good. But, a big boxer, or in the case of Tyson, a compact ball of muscle, would simply have too much strength to get taken down barring a slip.

Ali wasn't as great a puncher as some, so you could almost see an MMA guy surviving the move in. Tyson would have, literally, killed people if he was doing MMA. The force and balance delivered by a guy like that, with smaller gloves, would have literally ended lives in there with him. Liddell just got knocked out by a button perfect shot from a guy who was unable to generate anything in his legs for power. Rampage was standing open and threw from the arm. It was a nice shot, but, a power shot from a heavyweight would destroy some of the smaller men in MMA. There's a reason for weight classes.

Wow, I can't believe so many people think Ali would win. In a boxing match, Ali wins. In a fight... Chuck.

Ali's vote count was boosted by someone two nights in a row. I'd take off about 200 votes for him. Chuck was clearly winning the poll before it was hijacked. But polls are simply polls, look at how many people thought Chuck was going to beat Rampage in the UFC 71 thread.
