dockeryfan
I didn't see it mentioned anywhere, but Mike Bartram, the Eagles long snapper is shut down for most likely his career. He made a good hit, played the rest of the game, but woke up with some neck pain and a lot of stiffness, so they did an x-ray that next afternoon. Turns out he had a small fracture in his neck, a little chip of the edge of one of the vertebrae. Actually not a huge deal, but they followed it up with an MRI, and he's got 2 cervical discs, one bulging back centrally actually impinging on the spinal cord. If he had taken a bad shot later in the Colts game, it could have been paralysis. Danger averted, they shut him down. http://www.nj.com/sports/expresstimes/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1164776847208290.xml&coll=2 The Eagles ended up signing LS Jon Dorenbos to a 2 year deal to replace Bartram. MonkFan8
It never ceases to amaze me that this type of thing isn't far more common. I'm glad they found it before anything more serious developed.
