graffjd
According to Cerrato on redskins live lunch today the team has signed a safety from Detroit who was the Detroit ST captain last year. Does anyone know who this guy is. We certainly need the help on ST coverage. Bad news probly for Doughty, Antwan Edwards and other safetys except for Prieleau. PRO: Fox is a proven valuable special teams player as well as a reliable backup safety for Detroit. Has career total 46 tackles (36 solo), one interception, five passes defensed, and 11 special teams tackles. MANE FACTS: • Looked up to Deion Sanders and Barry Sanders as a youth. • Received a post graduate scholarship from the College Football Hall of Fame. • Played under Rodney Harrison who was a mentor for Fox when he entered the league. • Is a fan of Denzel Washington films. • Takes three weeks off after the season and then begins training in the heat of his Las Vegas home. • Fox offers his time as a motivational speaker and wishes to get involved with children’s ministry after his football career. • Is pursuing a master’s degree. • Devout Christian who attributes his success to faith. Griff
Here is his scouting report from 2002: SCOUTING REPORT Vernon Fox Fresno St 5-9 205 4.62 5Sr STATS & BIO: Three year starter and an All-Conference pick the past two seasons while being an All-Academic award winner since he was a sophomore. Senior totals were 62/3/1 in 13 games after 68/0/3 the prior year. Led the team in tackles as a red-shirt sophomore with 93 when he broke up two passes. THE GOOD: Tough, run defending safety with terrible size/speed numbers. Quick reading or anticipating the action, plays a disciplined brand of football and keeps the ball handler in front of him. Cognizant and alert, takes good angles to the action and does not get caught out of position. Displays the ability to move laterally but also forceful up the field, flies around the football and likes to take part in the action. THE BAD: Overall game lacks quickness and explosion, not fast to the flanks nor does he flash on the scene. Does not possess the pure cover skills to be moved to corner and not big enough for a safety. THE SKINNY: May have an opportunity as a special teams player based on his tenacity and the way he approaches the game.
