Gardner will have his contract finalized today, sent to the league office and should be in tomorrow for signing. If the little birdie is correct. The little birdie was correct about Smoot. smile.gif.

As for Smoot, I found it interesting that he indicated when asked what the hold up was, he said, "I have no idea." He was waiting on his agent. The contract for Smoot didn't change one penny. The agent was just holding out for more and didn't get it. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Gardner's agent hasn't really even tried getting Gardner in, because he's been doing Warren's contract. Players have to get on the ball and keep on the boy they hire to do this business.

Sports agents are swine. However, if what Smoot says is correct then I fault the player for not being more involved with his own negotiations.

Great news Art. I like the sound of that tune.

I am looking forward to seeing where he pans out in the depth chart. Anyone care to take a stab in the dark?

I am going with the optimistic side and saying he will be the #2 WR by the 4th regular season game.

I hope Art's birdie is correct. Mr. Gardner does need to get to camp and start climbing the learning curve.

I am not worried about him not contributing this year, however. I work with a Clemson alum and when we were discussing the draft a while back, he said that Gardner was an absolute beast, a man among boys who could just dominate a game.

That makes me think he'll fit right in at the pro level.smile.gif

I gotta birdie of my own for Gardner if he doesn't sign soon.

My prediction is that Gardner's season will be like Arrington's. He'll look unimpressive for the most part during the first half of the season, and will slowly begin to contribute by the second half. Hopefully, by the end of the season and (God willing) the playoffs, he'll be entrenched as our #3 WR and contributing in that role. To expect more is IMHO unrealistic.

Looking at how other WRs have faired in their first year or two, I agree. I think it's unrealistic to expect much from him the first half of the season regardless of when he makes it into camp. I tend to think it will be amazing if he is contributing on a regular basis this year.

We all think of Moss, but I think it's rare for WRs to have much of an impact their first year. I think outside of QB, wr might be the position that takes the longest for new players to contribute at. I think the reasons for slow production early on are the same for QB and WR. They have to figure out what to do based on coverages and make the correct reads. As they play more, they make the reads quicker, are open more often, and have more opportunities to display their physical abilities. The physical gifts that get them drafted seem like the last thing that helps them play and produce.

You might be right, and again it goes back to the same problem of having to read a defense. A center has to get the line calls right for blitzes. A rookie center who can't get the calls right would be a scary thing for the qb.

It will be good to get Rod in camp. I hope he is ready to work his butt off because of the time the missed. He should be alright.

My birdie may have been shot on this one. Mark Levine wasn't at practice today, as he's been all week, and we know Gardner's agent was in Carlisle today. It's probable both guys were hanging out together. And, rather than hammering it out, it looks like it took a turn for the worse. Reports are coming out that the hold up is incentives, but not that the team is in opposition to them, but rather, Gardner is demanding the same incentive package Terrell got. That's simply not going to happen. I think if he asked for more than Moss got (Santana) he'd be set. Tomorrow may be whistling dixie at this point.
