(See the 1997 Florida Marlins) Exactly, a team decides to bite the bullet on salary for a couple years in order to make a serious run at the Super Bowl and then those players are all dumped on the open market creating havok and destabilizing the league. This is not to mention the fact that the money for the raised salaries would have to come from somewhere. And let's all take a moment to think about who would actually be paying for those higher salaries. Pick One 1. Team Owners 2. Cities [Tax reforendums] 3. Benevolent Philanthropists or 4. You and I as fans, in the form of higher ticket prices, higher prices on team gear as well as hike in any other form of product sold by the teams. I know which one I'm betting on.
