Superbowl winners common denominator

:D If you take a look back the last 25 years of Superbowl winners there are one of two factors that each team had in common:

1. An Allpro or a future Hall of fame QB leading the team

2. A top 3 defense in the league.

The reason I post this is two fold. 1. The redskins will not have the first factor next year so I really hope their defense upgrades and gets back in the top 3. 2. The only coach to buck this trend in my recent memory is Joe Gibbs and the 1987 Redskins. Was just looking back and thought it might be interesting to share. :)

If you find another team that doesn't fit let me know.

Off the top of my head here are the last 19

XXXIX- New England (Tom Brady)- check

XXXVIII- New England (Tom Brady)- check

XXXVII- Tampa Bay (Defense)- check

XXXVI- New England (Tom Brady)- check

XXXV- Baltimore (Defense)- check

XXXIV- St Louis (here's an argument, although Warner had a great season)

XXXIII- Denver (John Elway)- check

XXXII- Denver (John Elway)- check

XXXI- Green Bay (Brett Favre)- check

XXX- Dallas (Troy Aikman)- check

XXIX- San Fran (Steve young)- check

XXVIII- Dallas (Troy Aikman)- check

XXVII- Dallas (Troy Aikman)- check

XXVI- Washington (Mark Rypien, was the defense great?)

XXV- New York- (Hostetler, defense?)

XXIV- San Fran (Joe Montana)- check

XXIII- San Fran (Joe Montana)- check

XXII- Washington- (Doug Williams Baby)

XXI- New York (Phil Simms, defense?)

XX- Chicago (Defense)- check

i dont know the rankings, but the ones in question are St Louis, New York in 21, and our two wins. So your theory is valiadted pretty good right here........

Edit- i was doing this as hall of fame QB. Warner & Rypien were all pros in their super bowl seasons....
