Gardner, Green, Lockett, McCants, Thompson, and the last spot is between Doering and Skaggs, but only if Skaggs significantly redeems himself in the next couple of games. Anthony is long gone.

Start Green and Doering. Lockett #3, Gardner #4, tossup between McCants and Thompson for #5 and #6. Mix up all six receivers during games and go with the hot guys. Use Lockett for flats and curls, where his slipperiness will play to advantage.

Skaggs and Johnson to practice squad. Anthony gets bus fare home.

Anthony was a no show last weekend and has not looked good in camp. Skaggs dropped a catchable ball last week and didn't make any positive plays to make up for it.

You can look at Doering one of two ways. Either he is a scrub that got a lot of catches playing pitch with Wuerffel against second team DB's or Doering is a solid possession receiver who has a role on the team because no one else has shown his hands or ability to sit down in a spot and catch the ball as consistently.

It's going to take another 3 weeks to sort all this out.

My guess is Anthony will be cut. Who needs a 28 year old #4 receiver when you have younger players who have shown as much or more ability?

The fact Green and Bailey may end up returning punts lessens the chance Anthony will make it.

Could you imagine if Cliff Russell were not injured? Since we're not likely to keep seven receivers, there would be a very tough cut among a group of three great-looking receivers:

Doering

McCants

Thompson

... or maybe we'd trade one. Probably wouldn't get much value in return, since none of the three has done anything in the NFL.

ASF,

That would be even tougher if Russell wasn't injured. Speaking of CR, I would have loved to have seen him out there on Saturday. His speed would definitely benefit the Fun n Gun.

I think after that 1st preseason game the 6 guys in the lead are Gardner, Green, Lockett, Thompson, Doering, McCants. But at this point, it is just a lead. We didn't see much of Gardner and Green but they are the starters at the moment. The other 4 obviously looked the best in that 1st game, but that could change.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. IMHO, that would mean two things:

1) Skaggs would never make the roster; and

2) either Doering would be cut, or we'd keep 7 WR's (which we'd justify based on Russel being our PR).

His injury came about tragically, but it does simplify the decision-making for us at WR.
