TahoeSkin
I don't know if this has been posted elsewhere, but thought I should point out: With 17 solo tackles and 5 assists, Antonio Pierce is ranked as the 14th highest ranked LB in the NFL. (http://www.nfl.com/stats/playersort/NFL/LB-TACKLES/2005/regular?&start_row=1) With 20 solo tackles and 3 assists, Marcus Washington is ranked as the 31st highest ranked LB in the NFL. (http://www.nfl.com/stats/playersort/NFL/LB-TACKLES/2005/regular?&start_row=1) With 16 solo tackles and 3 assists, Lemar Marshall is the 54th ranked LB in the NFL. (http://www.nfl.com/stats/playersort/NFL/LB-TACKLES/2005/regular?&start_row=51) With 3 solo tackles and 2 assists in 3 games, Warrick Holdman is the 138th ranked LB in the league. (http://www.nfl.com/stats/playersort/NFL/LB-TACKLES/2005/regular?&start_row=101) Hmmm: 32 NFL teams X 4 LBs each = 128 LBs. Seems like even back ups LBs in a 4-3 are statistically better than Holdman. With 2 solo tackles and 0 assists in 2 games (1 game less than Holdman), LaVar Arrington is the 183rd ranked LB in the league. (http://www.nfl.com/stats/playersort/NFL/LB-TACKLES/2005/regular?&start_row=151) Does anyone know where I could find statistics showing minutes per player? ntotoro
One thing that is misleading about rating the number of tackles is how well the DL is stopping the run.
daveakl
with four weeks and three games the redskins are 3-0. Hmmm: 32 NFL teams all having played at least 3 games. Seems like only four are unbeaten so far.
routemkr7
You shouldn't and can't rate LB's strickly on tackles. I'll take Washington, Marshall and Holdman any day of the week.

I'll take Williams' system and the LBs he chooses, any day of the week.
Peregrine
I agree completely with holdman. However pierce is on a horrendous defense, so obviously hes a big help there. Its easy to stand out as a decent player with bad players around you. Reverse goes for the redskins, great defense, not as much needed from each individual. And the other teams dont run much because they cant which means most plays will be in the secondary and CBs making tackles. People love stats. InGibbsITrust
you can't simply use tackles as a sign of talent or skill, there are too many other factors, i.e. sacks, interceptions (coverage skills in general really), sacks, fumbles (both forced and recovered). And yeah, we're 3-0 so lets calm down. our defense is not a problem
joelvincent
LB play is dependent on defensive system. We have "unproductive" LBs that stay on their assignments and play very disciplined ball. Net result? Top 5 defense in the league two years running. Holdman is doing his job competently. I don't see him getting beat badly or missing assignments so ease up on the guy. Truant
Defensive statistics are the most misleading. A player like Deltha O'neal can intercept 10 passes a year, but people keep throwing his way for a reason. A DB who gets a lot of tackles also MAY be giving up a lot of completions. An ENTIRE defenses stats is more telling. Depending on the system, certain positions will flourish or falter due to the scheme.
