Seahawks | Mitchell On the Way - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
18:23 PT: The Washington Post reports free agent DL Brandon Mitchell (Patriots) has decided to sign with the Seattle Seahawks. Agent Jeff Durand said the Redskins were "real close" to signing Mitchell but he opted for Seattle. The Redskins may have lost him because they wanted him to play defensive tackle instead of end. Durand added Mitchell will play end in Seattle.

I hope this wasn't posted
Kinda sucks, guess we will be drafting a DLinemen early for sure now

Look like he is coming to this part of the country.

I hope he likes:
-rain
-far weather football fans
-playing in front of a half-full stadium
-mocha-latté-cappuccino-espressos
-the grunge scene
-being in a place where the professional football team is the second most popular football team in town (I am referring to how the University of Washington Huskys are more popular that the Seattle Seahawk)

[ April 09, 2002, 10:52 PM: Message edited by: fuji869 ]

The grunge scene??? Isn't that a 90's thing?

I wonder if this makes the Skins look at a DT in the draft, maybe the first round. If Haynsworth or Bryant falls then take a shot, or maybe even reach a little for Weaver.

Seattle is not that bad, I just like to make fun of the city because it is such a fairweather sports town and all the PC people that are here. It is something that my fellow east coast transplants and myself like to do.

Don't get me wrong I would love to move back to the D.C. Area, I would be in Hog Heaven (literally). I am kind of working on that now.

I had been wondering about the exact same thing ND so I checked his profile. If I remember correctly they had him listed at 280.

I'm not too upset about losing him as he sounds like another K. Lang or R. Wynn type....ie a bit small for a DT and without good enough pass rush skills to be a right DE. Also, I hope this forces our hand as far as drafting a DT in the first round since I think at least one of the top tier guys is going to drop to us.

No way one of the top four DT's drops to us, unless everybody passes on John Henderson because of his back. In which case we probably should too.

Anthony Weaver though is a 6-3, 296 lb., defensive tackle who is sure to be there at the #18 spot. Maybe a little bit of a reach -- 5 spots -- but not much. The Jets are thinking about drafting him.

While I'm not crushed by this development, I was kinda hoping they could sign Mitchell and still go DL in the first and/or second round.

I had visions of rotating in and out waves of quality DL guys, like the Cowboys did in the early 90's. I don't think a 280 guy who is fresh is too much of a liability against a tired 325 guy.

It's not bad not to get this guy. As I said, it can't ever hurt a team to add quality young starting level players in this league to your team. You can't have enough of those guys. But, Mitchell was not, to my way of thinking, an ideal fit for us. If we got him, it would have been a move that made sense. Not getting him isn't crushing. Hopefully we'll get a little more beef for the interior line.
