Anyone else find it amusing......

The Cowboys are actually talking about running the option from time to time. Showing practice video of them doing it, I was struck by Emmitt dropping the ball and having the defense scoop it up for a return TD.

Emmitt may not be the back he was, but, when you have a guy like Emmitt, wouldn't it be safer just to hand him the ball and get out of his way with the rookie QB? I was also struck to hear that Carter has difficulty catching the snap from center, and his footwork is spotty. I guess there were reasons he was supposed to be a lower-round pick afterall. He needed work.

Granted, he's got nice size and excellent mobility, but, the man's a project and probably shouldn't be rushed like this. And I'm not talking about rushed in terms of playing him. I'm talking about rushed in terms of Jones continually raising team expectations. This guy better have a corner's mentality to let this season roll out of his mind, else he could be crushed by the weight of unreasoned and unresasonable expectations put on him by the GM.

I almost feel bad for campo because no matter what he says this was all Jones and he NO say in the matter. Banks would have been a good tutor for a year, but Jerry wants to prove HE made a great choice taking a 4th round at best QB in the second.

Hail Skins

It also sucks to be Campo because at some point he's going to be fired because of the team's poor play . . . of course Jerruh will say that the team "simply wanted to go in another direction."

I have mixed feelings about what's going on in Dallas.

I love Emmitt's heart, and it's been a privilege to watch him play all these years. I just don't see how he avoids getting killed this year, when opposing D coordinator's put 8 in the box from jump to make Carter beat them. Emmitt's going to take the brunt of that. Not a pretty picture. He deserves better.

As far as what J. Jones is doing to that franchise, there is some undeniable giggle-factor in watching him systematically dismantle what Tom Landry and Jimmy Johnson put in place, and slowly but surely turn what was a flagship NFL franchise into a joke. Perhaps, on some higher level of athletic purity, it would be nice to have the Cowboys a legitimate foil for the Redskins forever, but let's face it, watching them flounder like this is an awful lot of fun.

Still ... part of me is worried. The problem is that Jerry is funking up that franchise TOO fast. I want him to pace himself. If he figures it out too soon, he might actually hire a football guy, and I am in no hurry for that.

Far as I'm concerned, Jerry is the man.

Don't listen to them, Jerry. Chase the dream. cool.gif

What a way to blame your aging running back for the team's unsuccessful blocking (that's right, the wear and tear will show, except for Allen). The thing we as a team have to remember is not to take for granted to play these guys like we aim to kick their a**. Also, they have a penchant for filling the media with "what they intend to do" and then do the same old vanilla sh** they always do. The will sell their soul to gain an edge for Jerrah (at least Campos will, who to me is way out of his league in the NFL - he's been really lucky with Reid rebuilding, we had a Norv and Fassel was still tinkering, AZ was, well, AZ) Now the stakes are raised, DC is retooling on the serious tip and Philly is looking legit, what do the Cowpatties do, Jerrah has the same old "look at me" and then gametime, it's all a lie - D

sucks!

As far as the option goes, they should rehire Barry Switzer. That's his offense of choice, isn't it? (BTW- I believe that Aikman left OU because of their refusal to pass more with Switzer there too. Good time to retire, eh Troy? biggrin.gif )

I understand poking fun at the pokes, but until we beat them we better lay low.

No matter how bad they seem to be, they've beaten us seven straight and that's NOT funny.

Until we walk the walk, we shouldn't talk the talk.mad.gif

Oh, I hope they do run the option. I really do.

Let's see, take an inexperienced QB with a coule of WRs returning from serious injury and an aging, though still effective int he right system, RB. What would you want to do with this group? How about putting in an offense that won't work in the NFL with the best of talent. Too much speed on the defenses at this level.

And I'm sure Emmitt won't appreciate being told to roam around behind the line rather than getting the ball and running upfield. Oh, this is beautiful.

What they are now doing is FRICKIN' HYSTERICAL. Now let me tell you why. Q HATES running the option!!!! He even publicly said so and blames it for his sub par performance, in '00, because he kept getting drilled, hence injured. He doesn't mind running when there's nothing there but depises the designed run. I'm gonna have to go check out the DMN to see if he'd directly asked about it. THAT answer will be intriguing.

In closing, I know it to be a fact, that had he stayed at my alma mater, UGA, for this season, which would have been his Sr. year, he would NOT be starting. Think about that... The Girlz have a guy starting for them that would be riding the pine.

I always liked the guy but he sure FRUSTRATED the hell outta me, at times.

PS- 9/9, his pro debut is the 1 yr anniversary of his throwing 5 pix, in the SC game. Ugh!

HTTR!

Go Dawgs!

Funny you should mention Switzer Redman. He was in Oxnard at the Dallas Cowboy's training camp, for what reason I do not know, and made the suggestion to Campo about the option on the goal line offense. They have put it in the play book. I heard this on both of the main Dallas Sports Talks shows here in Dallas. I'm not making this up.

One thing I have noticed about the Dallas Games of late is that we show them way too much respect. Guys laughing and giggling with the pokes before and after the game. Helping Emmitt up after a tackle. I'm for good sportmanship, but you have to hate them, you have to want to crush them. I don't think the Skins have show that attitude. People here in Dallas have already chalked up the redskins games as two of the three games they will probably win this year. The Skins need a Gearge Allen type attitude going down there this year. They need a RIP wreath of flowers tossed in our locker room by Eukeban. We need a reason to hate them again. The current Skins don't hate the Cowboys enough.

I agree with you Om....let's hope Jerrah's ego isn't somehow deflated by the 2-14 season they're about to have and he has a change of heart. Please, please Jerrah keep your arm up Campo's behind and don't let us see your lips moving.

BTW, the two wins I'm thinking are us. I know, I know, I'm the eternal pessimist, but I'll believe it when I see it. It always seems that in their worst years, they always manage a split with us (and in recent years even better) and in our best years it seems all we can manage is to split with them. Dammit!! I want to see us absolutely humiliate these bums this year. Run up the #@*& score on 'em cool.gif Show poor sportsmanship and just totally destroy 'em...all for that crap last year when they said that "this is OUR house". I hope Marty has some tape of that to show 'em. No speeches would be needed.

Unlike Norv, I think Marty appreciates the need to be competitive in your own division as a key to being a playoff contender.

Losing to Dallas and Arizona cost this team playoff berths or higher seedings in 3 of the past 4 seasons.

Part of that is the Redskins under Norv were not a physical team. They were a team of adequate but not great talent that attempted to play a finesse game.

To do that, you need playes like Marvin Harrison and Terrell Owens with versatile runners/receivers like Faulk and Edgerrin James.

We now have come full circle and I believe Marty's expectations for the offense now more accurately reflects the level of talent the team has.
