  1. And still the worst defenses in the CFB are miles ahead the ACC? But either way, much like Stroud last year when it came to the biggest stage against his toughest opponent, he showed up (which is the opposite of what Maye did vs Clemson - his toughest game all season). If Penix does it again vs Michigan and balls out 3 games in a row I don't see how anyone could discredit that.
  2. The Seahwaks use their TEs more as blockers but fans seem to like him. I just think he is young, talented, 6'4, 26 years old has improved his blocking and has always been a good pass catcher. I don't think he'll be too expensive and in the right system can be a legit weapon I think we need a tall, physical WR. I know this draft is loaded with WRs but if we decide to go the FA route Pittman will cost less than Higgins (but still cost a bit). He's 6'4", just turned 26, doesn't have the injury issues Higgins has had and by all accounts is a good locker room guy
  3. A veteran hopefully? Surely people don't think Howell can or should mentor a rookie QB.
  4. Trade him? At least see if there is any interest. The Broncos need someone, the Saints might be looking for a successor to Carr but won't have a high draft pick, the Raiders, etc. I just don't see the value of keeping him around to be a 3rd QB that may not even be active most games or stashed on the PS.
  5. I don't think a GM loses their job for moving down from 2 to 5 or something, getting extra picks and drafting Daniels instead of Maye at 2. Lamar and Mahomes were considered tier 2 guys or late 1st rounders. And this also assumes that Maye will prove he is a "franchise guy" immediately or in his rookie year which is highly unlikely (for any of these QBs tbh). I guess where we disagree is whether Maye or Williams are or will be considered "can't miss franchise guys" While we are talking about Mahomes
  6. Yes but the "you better be right" applies no matter what they do. The Panthers were aggressive, identified their guy, traded up to get them and.. welp
  7. No I am not saying that but you also don't have to take a QB at 2. Maybe they trade down to 5 because someone really wants to get MHJ before the Cardinals and we take Daniels or whomever and get more picks. People always make generalizations about Mahomes or Allen without mentioning Mahomes going to an amazing situation where Alex Smith had repeatedly taken the Chiefs to the playoffs and he sat and watched and learned for a year. Or Allen being so inaccurate coming into the NFL nobody was sure if the Bills would stick with him and him documenting the year plus of work he did to become better. I am saying because the general consensus is that its Williams or Maye at 2 and this board seems married to the idea, doesn't mean it has to be that way or that is how the GM and HC will see it. There is also the combine, pro days, Senior Bowl, interviews, etc
  8. I don't have a favorite just yet. I think the combine, pro days and Senior Bowl will tell us a lot. Right now I am not very high on Maye but still have a lot of questions about Williams, Daniels, and Penix. I wish there was a Burrow or Luck that could land in our laps and I feel 100% confident about them but I just don't see it in any of these QBs. I also think the GM and HC will tell us a lot. Ben Johnson (who I think will be the Panthers HC) may be looking for a different kind of QB than say Macdonald.
  9. I get it but definitely don't think we should be looking at exceptions and pretend they are the norm. I see a lot of Mahomes and Allen comparisons for Williams and Maye and I feel like people are setting themselves up for disappointment doing that. Also neither Mahomes nor Allen were even top 5 picks and both either sat for a year (Mahomes) or took years to become good (Allen)
  10. I figure we go mostly offense in the draft and defense in FA. But we won't be able to fill every hole. Would anyone be open to Noah Fant as TE option or Michael Pittman JR as WR (I like Tee Higgins but Pittman doesn't have the injury history and would be coming off his best season)?
  11. Not enough Jayden Daniels in this thread
  12. Tua? He's had some concussions in the NFL but nothing like the injuries that piled up while he was in college. Gronk had extensive back surgery in college. Frank Gore had 2 ACL injuries in college also Matthew Stafford had a ton of injuries in college.
  13. Is it worth it if someone wants to trade a 6th for him? I would at least explore our options. He is young, cheap and on a rookie deal. Someone might be willing to work with him. I don't see the point if he has no real future here I think a vet works better as a backup to a learning and developing rookie. If Jacoby is willing to stay, great, but it seems unlikely. He'll see Flacco's success and look for a place he might be able to start.
  14. Are you aware that Penix has been healthy and had no issues or injury concerns for 2 years all while playing some very good defenses? And Burrow was relatively healthy in college and has dealt with various injuries during his NFL career. Its a crapshoot.
  15. I 100% agree with you. Those are big IFs but if Penix balls out against that Michigan defense (and shows off some of the mobility he did in the Texas game) and the team checks on his medicals and he's fine I'd take him over both too. Its funny you mentioned Stroud, he was always my #1, but after the UGA game I couldn't believe Young was even being considered as the best in the draft.
  16. I am quite confused as to why people want Howell on the team next year? He didn't outplay our backup QB. Someone who was benched 3 times in a season should not be trying to mentor anyone else, certainly not whatever QB we draft, and we're almost surely getting a new OC and HC so it would be a new offensive scheme anyway that Sam wouldn't know. What is the benefit in keeping him besides that he is cheap? Washington should not spend time or resources trying to develop two QBs simultaneously (especially one that they have already decided is not the guy)
  17. To say his schedule was extremely weak is an understatement which is why I don't put much stock in him not having elite players, he also did not have elite or even tough competition at all.
  18. Sorry but saying Maye is a better prospect than Burrow is absolute nonsense. I mean, he's entitled to his opinion but there is not a single stat/data point/level of competition, etc to back that up.
  19. This is the same Hasselbeck that said Sam was the future and he believed in him? Him? Everyone can find some media personality who loves their guy. The numbers need to back it up and I def don't think they do for some of the guys this board loves.
  20. Thanks. I also think a trading back a few spots is quite likely. Nobody wants to hear it but an analytics approach to the draft definitely doesn't guarantee picking a QB at 2
  21. I don't want Bo Nix and they'll obviously also look at ADOT but sack ratio is definitely not a worthless stat. It has actually been one of the more reliable indicators when it comes to QB success (along with accuracy) It took Josh Allen 3 seasons to become the Josh Allen that we see today. It wasn't until 2020 that he even hit a 60% completion percentage and Maye doesn't have his arm nor his build but apparently does have similar accuracy issues
  22. Cool. So looking at this and also the attached that I just saw on Twitter...why would Drake Maye or Caleb Williams be the pick over say Daniels? I just think all of these QBs are pretty close and there is no slam dunk. Right now though Maye might seem safe but he also seems unremarkable and the likeliest to be a Trubisky. I think if Harris loves analytics and is looking to a GM and thus HC who do too their best QB might not be the one everyone here loves cause the numbers aren't that impressive for the current consensus top 2
  23. What do the analytics say about these QBs? Every data point I see about Maye is not good or not any better than Daniels. Isn't Harris an analytics guy and looking for a GM in the same vein?
  24. I don't think Murray is going anywhere. Gannon has never waivered from this and again confirmed yesterday he was their starting QB. That team plays hard for him
